    Christmas Market of Bolzano 2023/24
    Bolzano/Bozen, Bolzano/Bozen and environs
The scent is that of cinnamon and spices, of mountain wood and home-made cakes, of mulled wine and festively decorated fir trees. The light is that of the wooden houses all tidy and decorated, the light coming from the Christmas tree and shining in the eyes of the children. The sweet notes of Christmas carols and cheerful harmony waft through the air. Tastes reminiscent of Zelten with candied fruit, apple strudel, homemade biscuits. The warmth in the hands of boiled wool, loden, decorated candles, a steaming cup in the company of friends. The Christmas Market is the most eagerly awaited event of the year: from November 24th to January 6th. Shopping in Bolzano is a reflection of multi-cultural exchange: from traditional South Tyrolean clothing to designer fashion, from traditional stores selling local products to Italian regional delis, from charming local market stalls to the market of piazza delle Erbe, a colourful triumph of fruits, vegetables, flowers and breads. Exhibition: Walter Bonatti - Stati di grazia. Un'avventura ai confini dell'uomo
    Bolzano/Bozen, Bolzano/Bozen and environs
The Bolzano section of the CAI presents: "Walter Bonatti. Stati di grazia" To mark the 10th anniversary of Walter Bonatti's death, the Museo della Montagna in Turin presented the exhibition "Stati di grazia". This exhibition marked the culmination of the systematisation, cataloguing and digitisation of Walter Bonatti's estate - with the support of the Club Alpino Italiano, the Piedmont Region, the Fondazione CRT and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) - which the heirs of the mountaineer and explorer donated to the museum on 8 August 2016. The exhibition was curated by Roberto Mantovani and Angelo Ponta. From his first climbing tours to his last explorations, Walter Bonatti spent his entire life exploring the world and himself with unrivalled talent and uncompromising dedication. What moved him was the desire for adventure, but not only that: his relationship with the wilderness was characterised by a quest that was almost unconscious at first, but became clearer and more determined over the years until it became a real way of life. His relationship to the mountains, to nature and to his fellow human beings was very personal. What was universal, however, was his food for thought on how we can rediscover a "healthy" relationship with the changing planet and with modernity, recognising the need for a new way of looking at the world and ourselves as its inhabitants. The exhibition is less concerned with reconstructing the story of Walter Bonatti than with trying to show the common thread that runs from his adventures and emotions in the mountains to the whole world. To this end, it not only presents the images, objects and words that make his legacy so precious, but also "reproduces" some of the environments in which Bonatti liked to immerse himself, from the slopes of the Alps to the borders of the planet with its ice, forests and volcanoes, in an attempt to make the public emotionally part of Bonatti's world. With the kind support of the city administration, which has made the city gallery on Dominikanerplatz available, the Bolzano section of the CAI now has the opportunity to present this impressive exhibition in Bolzano in November and December 2023 under the patronage of the City of Bolzano and the UNESCO Dolomites Foundation. Opening on 8 November in the city gallery on Dominikanerplatz in Bolzano Admission free.

EWA DOROSZENKO, JACEK DOROSZENKO - Impossible Horizon
    Bolzano/Bozen, Bolzano/Bozen and environs
In their latest works (photographs, sound installations, photographic objects, videos), the Doroszenko duo deals with a classic theme in art - landscape. The works were created during artistic residencies in Kunstnarhuset Messen Ålvik (Norway), The Island Resignified LeQada (Greece), Klaipeda Culture Communication Center (Lithuania), and in Warsaw, as part of the Scholarship from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland. To better understand the causes of the current environmental crisis, the artists look at the history of the Western tradition of landscape painting, in which the concept of natural landscape was defined according to the dominant worldview - as a detached component, outside the subject. In their works, Ewa and Jacek Doroszenko aim to question the separation between the issue - the observer - and the separated environment. A significant element of the Doroszenko duo’s artistic practice is to treat sound phenomena as a full- fledged element in the field of visual art and to emphasize the importance of “deep listening” in everyday life. Accordingly, the artists are interested in the landscape’s holistic experience, which is impossible without the acoustic factor. In their mixed-media projects, the artists explore how digital images, and the latest technologies mediate the perception of the natural world. Fascinated by modern information tools and their immense potential for shaping lifestyles, Ewa and Jacek Doroszenko attempt to capture the atmosphere of the physical yet virtual present. Looking at the textures of landscapes - both natural and simulated - the artists highlight the role of photography in navigating the current world. Using Google Street View, popular computer games, travel guides and other online sources, the artists examine how contemporary digital culture is changing the perception of the landscape. Their works focus on the positive impact of the landscape on human psychological well-being. As residents of Warsaw who regularly experience urban “noise pollution”, they know the need to popularize “soundscape ecology” - the science of acoustic relationships between living organisms, human and otherwise, and their environment. Referring to this therapeutic function of landscape, they present works that subtly reveal the inseparable connection between man and his natural surroundings.

Ticket Museum Minnehus - Walther von der Vogelweide
    Lajen/Laion
Walther von der Vogelweide, the most important of the German-speaking minnesingers, has left a deep mark not only on literature, but also on Lajen. Thus would Walther von der Vogelweide have probably received us, bidding us “willekomen” to his home of Lajen, which he left in the late 12th century in order to conquer the entire German-speaking world with his songs and poems. Walther was the star minnesinger, the one who knew how to entertain the ladies and gentlemen at court – up to and including numerous crowned heads. As a consummate professional, he knew exactly what his audience wanted to hear, whether it was poems about noble ladies and (not so noble) girls, or works with a more solid content: crown, church, crusades.

    Double Trouble
    Brixen/Bressanone, Brixen/Bressanone and environs
Double Trouble means double trouble. A promising title. A title does not stand alone, but is always an indication of the content of the program or, in this case, the exhibition. We can therefore look forward to an exciting and exciting exhibition. In which two artists, Julia Frank & Karin Welponer, meet, perhaps also two views of art. But certainly a deep examination of the work of the person in question. The core of Julia Frank's contribution is an approximately 10-minute video portrait about Karin Welponer. In terms of content, Julia Frank describes this work as a narrative journey that begins in the past and extends to the present. Karin Welponer's multi-part photo works also have key points or cores. These are “tree fragments” or “tree details”. Here the artist declares visible injuries and their healing, as well as overgrowths, to be works of art. Seen in this way, this exhibition is a hike, perhaps even a journey, that plays with changes, inversions and allusions. Julia Frank's iconic coat stand by the Thonet brothers is alienated and changed, its original purpose and form removed and filled with new content and new form. Here too, a starting point and a reference to the tree pictures and the milled wooden objects by Karin Welponer. These are, among other things, shapes created by bark beetles. The paths of the bark beetles, which mean certain death for a weakened tree, are declared a beautiful form, a work of art. Accordingly, Double Trouble is actually a fine discussion and a “complementation” with the work and the opinions of the other person. Trouble also stands for the word worry. Double worry. The exhibition can perhaps also be read as a careful and careful interaction and relationship.

Boccaccio - Operetta by Franz von Suppè
    Brixen/Bressanone, Brixen/Bressanone and environs
TO THE PIECE This year, for the first time, an operetta by Franz v. Suppè is on the programme of the "Südtiroler Operettenspiele"; and with "Boccaccio" it is of course his best-known masterpiece. Suppè, like Johann Strauss, who was a few years younger, is one of the founders of classical Viennese operetta and was strongly influenced by Jacques Offenbach. In his operettas, for example, he preferred to use the couplet instead of the great aria (see "Fledermaus"), partly because this is not so demanding from a vocal point of view and above all because it suits the buffoonish character of his operettas. Many of his roles are actually written and intended for actors with halfway singing abilities. On the other hand, Suppè in particular is much closer to opera than other contemporaries. This may be due to the fact that he lived in Italy for many years and was a great admirer of Rossini, Bellini, Donizetti and also the young Verdi. And so it was obvious for Suppè to endow his "Boccaccio" with much such Italianità. It is precisely this combination of southern melodicism and Viennese elegance that makes this score so appealing and secured the composer a worldwide success, which unfortunately eluded most of Suppè's other operettas. However, the many overtures to his other operettas such as "Dichter und Bauer" (Poet and Peasant), "Leichte Kavallerie" (Light Cavalry) and "Pique Dame" (Queen of Spades) remain very popular and can be heard in concert halls all over the world. Even in these showpieces for orchestra, his compositional genius and his art of orchestration are evident time and again. The somewhat turbulent plot of "Boccaccio" needs dramaturgical tightening, but has a lot of witty potential; the extraordinary beauty of the melodies and the musical temperament with which Suppé endows his characters will certainly enchant the audience when the curtain rises on the 14th South Tyrolean Operetta Festival on Thursday, 7 December 2023 at the Forum Brixen. Operetta Plays. Further performances will follow until 30 December. Light–air–mountain - Kunst im Gang[e]
    Lajen/Laion
The exhibition shows a central thematic area to which Ottavia Demetz devotes herself with great fascination: landscape painting in the great outdoors. For her, watercolor is the ideal technique for capturing atmospheric, moody impressions. In her works we recognize many familiar mountain views, but still the subjects seem somehow different, seen anew, rebuilt through color and texture. Using various watercolor techniques - glazing, granulation, wash - the artist achieves a subtle color and "airy" mood in the landscape paintings. Light and physicality of the rock formations play a significant role. The pictures express not only a strong soulfulness, but also a certain fleetingness of the mountain landscape. [Text: Richard Firler] Ottavia Demetz (*1969), graduated from the Provincial Vocational School "Cademia", worked as an independent barrel painter, teaches at the Provincial Vocational School "Cademia" in Ortisei the subject painting 12.10.2023-12.1.2024 Lajen [Village Hall] [Art in the Hallway Walther-von-der-Vogelweide-Str. 30/A Opening: Thursday, 12.10.2023, 18.30, Introduction: Silvia Demetz The exhibition can be visited until January 12, 2024. Exhibition: Margareth Dorigatti - Attesa
    Bolzano/Bozen, Bolzano/Bozen and environs
In her artistic career where she was predominantly working with figurative representations, with serial explorations concentrating in each case on specific subjects and differing areas (from stage design to large scale murals, from photography to music and literature), Margareth has now, using the theme of the planets, found a natural sequel to her moon theme, as it were, and has moved to a more abstract form of expression which she is nevertheless constantly questioning with her innate care and thoroughness, all this resulting from a long and rigorous process of investigation and refinement. For every planet, every deity, yes, even for every colour, one might say, we have something akin to a portrait which Margareth has invested with her own perception of it and where she has intensified her own relationship with it, revealing to us and to herself the key to its interpretation which is so essential to its understanding. Thus in one narrative which is never banal, we are shown the absolute strength of Mars, the seductive beauty of Venus, the conflictual complexity of Saturn, the mysterious clemency of the Moon or the divine superiority of Jupiter, and all this is done using colours and shapes which characterise each one of them: additional and analogue attributes which imbue the painting with tension and extraordinary energy, whilst at the same time bestowing on it, as if by magic, a faint ironic value which always allows the interplay to be shrewd and intelligent. Flavia Pesci Biography Born in Bolzano in 1954. In 1973 she studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Venezia with Emilio Vedova. In 1975 she moved to Berlin where she studied Painting, Graphics and Photography at the Hochschule der Künste. She was invited to take photographs for the foremost cultural institutions in Berlin. In 1977 she founded a Studio home frequented by eminent artists and theatre people living in Berlin. In 1979 she was awarded a grant to study in New York, with the task of photographing the Actor’s Studio and Lee Strassberg’s lessons. She starting exhibiting her work in private galleries in Berlin in 1980, and 1983, together with Joachim Szymczak, undertook a huge project for the decoration of the Berlin underground network: 75 paintings in 8 different stations. She won the Internationalen Bauausstellung competition for the decoration of the façade of a historic Kreuzberg house. In 1984 she moved to Rome, where she has continued her work as a painter. She has exhibited in Italy and abroad in private galleries, public venues and museums (Rome, Paris, Milan, Pescara, Bolzano, Modena, Bologna, Berlin, Nimes, Lyon, Cologne, Bonn, etc). She was invited to take part in the 54th Venice Biennale. She is Professor of Decoration at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Rome, where she also holds courses on Chromatology.
