Finally, the time has come again: the original Burgeiser "Nikolaus and Krampus" procession will take place again this year! And this year the Burgeiser Krampus celebrate their 20th anniversary! Start at the fire station to the village square. There the good children will be given presents by St. Nicholas. Followed by a party with DJ Toro on the village square.

The Krampus procession starts at 5 p.m. from Walther Square.

Celia Martinez Aragon talks about her life as a shepherdess in an online lecture at the Nature Museum on 7 December. Info: Tel. 0471 412964 As a shepherdess, Celia Martinez Aragon experiences the life cycle of grazing animals and also gets to know the landscape at close quarters, as she spends almost half a year out on the pastures in all weathers. In this sense, managed grazing is becoming increasingly important as a form of landscape conservation. In the online lecture "Experiences of a shepherdess in South Tyrol, Tyrol and the Basque Country", the speaker explains the benefits of permanent grazing for the landscape, water balance and animals. Celia Martinez Aragon studied agricultural sciences in Cologne and completed a shepherdess school in her native Spain. She has also worked as a shepherdess in the Alps, for example in Stilfs and in St. Anton in Tyrol.

Producers from the area offer their local and handmade products for tasting and for sale. Seasonal fruits and vegetables, bread, meat and sausage products, honey and jams, Liquors and juices, wood carvings and much more are offered.

In a valley in which dialect and garb are still alive, it is not unusual that its tradition is thoroughly cultivated. The „Klöckeln“, is a pre-Christian custom practised the first weeks of December and has an old tradition.

In the Christmas bakery, there are many delicacies... This is also the case in the run-up to Christmas at Anna-Maria's on the Kronlechnerhof farm. During the biscuit workshop, young and old can knead dough, cut out and bake biscuits together. The farmer Anna-Maria explains which ingredients are needed for the dough and what to look out for when making biscuits. Of course, there is no shortage of snacking - at the end, the home-baked biscuits can be tasted. The rest is divided among everyone and can be taken home. Each Thursday during Advent, younger and older children dress up as farmers and go from house to house in the evenings singing the „Tlecanoht“. TO THE PIECE This year, for the first time, an operetta by Franz v. Suppè is on the programme of the "Südtiroler Operettenspiele"; and with "Boccaccio" it is of course his best-known masterpiece. Suppè, like Johann Strauss, who was a few years younger, is one of the founders of classical Viennese operetta and was strongly influenced by Jacques Offenbach. In his operettas, for example, he preferred to use the couplet instead of the great aria (see "Fledermaus"), partly because this is not so demanding from a vocal point of view and above all because it suits the buffoonish character of his operettas. Many of his roles are actually written and intended for actors with halfway singing abilities. On the other hand, Suppè in particular is much closer to opera than other contemporaries. This may be due to the fact that he lived in Italy for many years and was a great admirer of Rossini, Bellini, Donizetti and also the young Verdi. And so it was obvious for Suppè to endow his "Boccaccio" with much such Italianità. It is precisely this combination of southern melodicism and Viennese elegance that makes this score so appealing and secured the composer a worldwide success, which unfortunately eluded most of Suppè's other operettas. However, the many overtures to his other operettas such as "Dichter und Bauer" (Poet and Peasant), "Leichte Kavallerie" (Light Cavalry) and "Pique Dame" (Queen of Spades) remain very popular and can be heard in concert halls all over the world. Even in these showpieces for orchestra, his compositional genius and his art of orchestration are evident time and again. The somewhat turbulent plot of "Boccaccio" needs dramaturgical tightening, but has a lot of witty potential; the extraordinary beauty of the melodies and the musical temperament with which Suppé endows his characters will certainly enchant the audience when the curtain rises on the 14th South Tyrolean Operetta Festival on Thursday, 7 December 2023 at the Forum Brixen. Every Wednesday we meet us in the farm of the Schildhof Obergereuth. Together we prepare South Tyrolean bread with spices and wheat from our farm. While the dough is rising and resting, we visit the wheat field and our mill from 1831. The bread and three recipes are taken home. While the bread is baking in the oven, we dedicate ourselves to lunch: a generous and varied platter of cheeses from the organic cheese dairies Aignerhof and Schupferhof, various types of bread from our farm and our medlar jelly. We set off into Valle di Braies Vecchia by minibus from San Candido and using the snow-covered road towards Prato Piazza we reach the 2000 meters high alpine plateau. From there it’s a short walk to Rifugio Prato Piazza (base camp). There, we put on our snowshoes. Past Swiss pine woods we gently cross the high plateau and climb Monte Specie (2,307 m). A stunning circular view and intense winter fun for relatively small climbing effort. Refreshment stop possible at the end of the hike.
