Spend every day outside

The sun shines on perfectly groomed slopes with guaranteed snow, inviting you to ski, snowboard, or set off on a cross-country trail. In the glacier areas of Solda and Senales, you can enjoy the first runs on the snow as early as September, while snowshoe hikes and toboggan runs add variety to your winter days. After the thrill of the outdoors, wellness becomes part of the rhythm: saunas and alpine spas offer warmth, silence, and relaxation, just steps from the slopes. At the dining table, South Tyrol rewards you once more — from rustic huts to gourmet restaurants, where chefs transform local products from nearby farms into refined creations. Short supply chains, authentic flavours, and a deep respect for nature turn every meal into a sustainable experience. Here, winter is not only lived, but felt — in sport, in taste, and in the gentle art of well-being.

Five reasons for your winter holiday in South Tyrol

Winter in the Dolomites

Snow is guaranteed, the air is crisp and the jagged peaks of the UNESCO World Heritage Dolomites glow in winter light. Wide slopes with Dolomiti Superski, endless trails with Dolomiti Nordic Ski, and scenic routes for winter hiking or tobogganing create a season full of variety. After days in the snow, South Tyrol’s gourmet and Michelin-starred cuisine awaits you in mountain huts and fine-dining restaurants, where alpine traditions meet creative excellence. Alpine wellness adds the final touch of warmth and relaxation. In the Dolomites, every moment is an invitation to slow down, to breathe and to enjoy winter in its most beautiful form.

Ski areas

Here, winter turns into pure joy: perfectly groomed, snow-covered slopes and breathtaking mountain views are waiting for you. With Dolomiti Superski you glide through the largest ski area in the Dolomites. In the Two Country Skiarena you cross the border between Italy and Austria on skis. And in the Ortler Skiarena, the glaciers of Solda and Senales invite you to ski from September until May.

Please remember: valid public liability insurance is required for everyone on the slopes and can be purchased with your ski pass. Helmets are mandatory for minors when skiing, snowboarding, or sledging.

From producer to plate, just a step away

In winter, South Tyrol’s cuisine brings warmth and authenticity to every table. In welcoming farmhouse inns and cosy mountain huts, you’ll find alpine classics prepared with ingredients sourced straight from the farm. Speck, cheese, and seasonal vegetables reflect traditions passed down for generations, while the glow of wood stoves turns every stop into a moment of comfort. Beyond these rustic flavours, top gastronomy elevates local produce into fine dining experiences — nowhere more so than in the philosophy of three-star Michelin chef Norbert Niederkofler whose Cook the Mountain approach blends sustainability, creativity, and a deep respect for nature. From hearty dishes in mountain huts to Michelin-starred creations, winter in South Tyrol is savoured in every bite, rooted in the land and its people.

Wellness in winter

After a day on the snow, nothing feels better than letting body and mind unwind. In South Tyrol, wellness is as much a part of winter as skiing or hiking: from steaming outdoor pools with mountain views to soothing saunas and treatments rooted in alpine nature. The Terme Merano offer a haven of relaxation right in the heart of the city, while many hotels combine gourmet cuisine, spa rituals and warm hospitality. Here, wellness is the gentle rhythm that completes your winter days .
