Holidays in the Dolomites Region Eggental

The UNESCO World Heritage Dolomites for nature lovers

Here, sustainability is more than just a buzz word, legendary figures seem still to live in the local villages with their exceptional landscapes and nature forms the focal point of adventure: in the Dolomites Region Eggental, there is plenty for environmentally-conscious nature lovers and action fans to enjoy. The region has been awarded the highest possible award for sustainable tourism.

Here are some things you should not miss

Submerse yourself in the adventure world at the foot of the Latemar mountain. Explore the innovative mountain hut architecture. Observe the planets. Climb a legendary mountain.

Not far from the state capital of Bolzano/Bozen, close to nature and awarded the South Tyrol sustainability label: the green valley between the Latemar and Rosengarten massifs.

Sustainable Eggental/Val d'Ega

Measurable, visible, tangible. Eggental is the first sustainable holiday region in South Tyrol bearing the Sustainability Label South Tyrol. But it's even more astonishing that Eggental is one of the few having achieved the GSTC-recognition. It's been many years now, since local cycles have been on the upswing, bringing producers from the valley and restaurateurs to work closer. These kinds of destinations are actively and successfully involved in socio-economic, ecological and cultural sustainability. For this reason, the Dolomites Region Eggental is considered as a pioneer and internationally acclaimed role model for other holiday regions committed to pursue a more sustainable future.

The Karersee lake, which lies directly under the Karerpass, is easily accessible by public transport. Hikers can reach the lake on foot in summer as well as in winter. Here's how.

Dolomiti Supersummer

In summer, you can experience the world's most beautiful mountains even more easily and sustainably: car-free, while hiking and biking. The Dolomiti Supersummer Liftpass opens up the airy route to the UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site in 12 Dolomite regions.

Villages in the Dolomites Region Eggental

The largest village here does not exceed 3,000 inhabitants. The region’s villages are straightforward, peaceful and above all, close to the mountains. Just right for switching off on a holiday close to nature.

What can you see and do in the Dolomites Region Eggental?

It is little wonder that legends have been created in this region at the UNESCO World Heritage Dolomites: a lovesick magician cast a rainbow into the Karersee lake because he was in love with a water nymph who lived there. This gave the lake its wide range of colours and its nickname of “rainbow lakeht. Although the Christmas market "Christmas Magic at Lake Carezza" won't take place this winter, you can learn about this enchanted reality during a stroll in the snow. Alongsidethe Rosengarten massif there's the rugged Latemar which can be explored via themed trails in the Latemarium Adventure Kingdom and, of course, along hiking trails and mountain biking tours. Following the efforts of conquering the climbing sections, you will be rewarded at the mountain huts with steamed Knödel and creamy risotto. The region offers wide-ranging views in the form of the views of the surrounding mountain landscape and the unique astronomical observatory in South Tyrol and Planetarium. The valley has made considerable efforts to establish a sustainable economy – from the management of the accommodation to organisation of the two ski areas of Obereggen and Carezza Dolomites. For the love of the environment.

In the Dolomites Region Eggental and in the rest of South Tyrol, you will find a wide selection of local high-quality foods and hand-crafted everyday and art objects. Lots of producers sell straight from the farm where you can sample the treats and get to know the producers. In this way, you will experience moments of delicious flavour as well as gaining exciting insider knowledge about the cultivation and processing. With a bit of luck, you can even look over the shoulders of craftsmen at work as they create jewellery, wooden sculptures and baskets while strolling through the village. Hand craftsmanship has a long-standing tradition in South Tyrol. High quality and durability are the primary factors, which are achieved through the use of proprietary manufacturing techniques and high-quality raw materials.
