This much action in the snow can work up an appetite. It is good that the Ahrntal is not only the valley of the three-thousand-metre peaks, but around 30 open alpine huts and ski huts can be found at all altitudes. Enjoy pasta with signature Speck Alto Adige PGI, dumplings on coleslaw or hearty meat specialties from the grill, and finish off with a serving of Kaiserschmarrn or warm apple strudel that will get you grinning from ear to ear. The traditional alpine and ski huts have enticing outdoor areas to use when the sun is shining, as well as cosy parlours to warm up in, plus a varied menu filled with typical local dishes. Every Wednesday afternoon from mid-January to mid-March, the Ski & Cheese Event will take you from hut to hut with ski instructors for cheese tasting, where you can learn more about delicious cheese specialities from cheese sommeliers. Or you can enjoy some small appetisers – as you sail up above the winter landscape – in the floating aperitif on the Speikboden.
From 13 to 15 March, the 16th Cheese Festival in Sand in Taufers will showcase the award-winning Ahrntaler Graukäse cheese and other delicacies from across Europe, such as olive oil, carrots, meat products and bread.
