How to become a climbing legend
In the Ahrntal valley, the valley of 80 three-thousanders, reveals innovative hut architecture in a rustic high-mountain landscape.
It is not by chance that Hans Kammerlander, an extreme mountaineer, is at home here: no other valley in South Tyrol has such a high density of three-thousanders as the Ahrntal valley. On extended day tours or multi-day hikes, you can climb sublime peaks, some of which are located in the Rieserferner-Ahrn Nature Park. On more than 80 peaks, summiteers enjoy mind-blowing views of the Hohe Tauern National Park, the Zillertal Alps or the Dolomites. We recommend a visit to two marvellous places to stop for refreshments: the recently built Schwarzensteinhütte and Edelrauthütte mountain refuge, which leave a mark for their innovative and unconventional design. At 3,029 m, the Schwarzensteinhütte mountain refuge is one of the highest in South Tyrol.
