Bridge between the past and the present

If you want to explore the cultural side of our region, you can look forward to well-preserved cultural assets from an exciting past. We create the right setting for innovations, and we give performances the right stage. After all, our culture is close to our hearts.

From a 5,000-year-old glacier mummy named Ötzi to the largest secular fresco cycle from the Middle Ages at Schloss Runkelstein castle in Bolzano/Bozen. From imposing castles and palaces on the Alto Adige Wine Road to hip architecture and contemporary masterpieces by star architects on the Kronplatz. From the Alpine Romanesque Road in the Vinschgau valley to the Nature Park Visitor Centres throughout the region. South Tyrol is rich in ancient, innovative, unique and contrasting cultural treasures for you to discover. In addition the attractions, it is also the living everyday culture that is particularly exciting in Italy's northernmost region.

You should have seen it

How about a secular fresco cycle that is a one-of-a-kind in Europe? Original preserved Romanesque buildings? An architecturally spectacular museum high on a mountain? Or the seven cities across the region that couldn't be more unique? You can also marvel at the "Borghi più belli d'Italia" - Italy's most beautiful towns.

Theatre, music and art

Cultural enjoyment in an extraordinary ambience

In addition to the lived customs and traditions,  there is a lot of room for new ideas. Artists from all over the world can be seen and heard on South Tyrol's stages: in classical music and ballet, but also rhythmic jazz sounds and contemporary dance genres. Events like the Tanz Bozen dance festival , the Südtirol Jazz Festival Alto Adige  and the international Ferruccio Busoni Piano Competition are among the cultural highlights throughout the year.

Open-air plays have a long tradition here thanks to the mild temperatures:  folk theatre performances can be seen on balmy summer evenings at the Ritten Sommerspiele. The Eppan Humour Festival on the Großer Montiggler See lake provides first-class comedy entertainment. Visual contemporary art can be found at the Biennale Gherdëina and the Unika Art Fair, where local and international artists come together.

Traditions and customs

The Törggelen in autumn, the mountain bonfires to worhisp the Sacred Heart in early summer, the egg-laying at Easter: we breathe life into the past. Every year.
