Environmentally-friendly travel through the mountains

The most attractive and sustainable ways of reaching the heights of the Dolomite passes.

In addition to being popular destinations, the Dolomite passes are also starting points for experiencing this unique landscape of the Dolomites. The best way to do so is without a car: You can explore the passes in a sustainable way by walking, cycling, taking the cable car or public transport and enjoy the Dolomites for many years to come.

Simply leave your car or motorbike at home or at your accommodation and explore alternative ways of accessing the Dolomite passes - there are plenty of good reasons:

  • Make your own way to the Dolomite passes and gain a whole new perspective on the Dolomites
  • Enjoy the exceptional landscapes of the Dolomites with even greater intensity because you do not have to concentrate on driving
  • Make an active contribution to protecting the delicate ecosystem of the Dolomites
  • Using your own car to drive or sit in traffic on the winding pass roads is stressful
  • The well-developed public transport network will lead you to the Dolomite pass of your choice in a timely, cost-effective and leisurely manner

Wild camping is prohibited on the Dolomite passes in South Tyrol and throughout the rest of Italy. There are, however, many RV parks where you can stay for up to 72 hours. They serve as a stopover, offering essential amenities such as electricity connections and supply and disposal facilities. For stays exceeding 72 hours, we highly recommend booking a pitch on a campsite. Campsites provide a wide range of amenities and facilities that will improve your experience.

On your passes, get set, go!

Do you want to tackle a high route, a leisurely hike from hut to hut or a comfortable stroll with a pram? The walking tours leading to the Dolomite passes range from simple to challenging.

How to reach the Dolomite passes

Shepherds and traders used breakneck ridges as connecting routes to the Dolomites secluded valleys, whereas nowadays, passes are easily accessible all year round. These passes link the South Tyrolean Dolomites valleys and provide routes to the Province of Trento and Belluno.
