Cycling holidays in South Tyrol

Why you should make cycling a part of your South Tyrolean holiday

Do you enjoy active holidays? Do you appreciate the freedom to explore the countryside at your own pace? Hop in the saddle! Cycling is the ultimate authentic and eco-friendly way to discover South Tyrol. Picture yourself cycling in the Höhlensteintal valley, looking towards the Three Peaks. Or breathing in the Mediterranean atmosphere of the Oltradige cycle path, surrounded by the vineyards of the Kalterer See and the beautiful historic houses. Alternatively, you might just let yourself be drawn in by the extravagant architecture of the local wine cellars and stop for a refreshing aperitivo in the village square. By bike, you can decide your own schedule, choosing your ideal route and stops.

Bring your own bike or hire one when you arrive

Do you like cycling on holiday?  Thanks to the dense network of cycle paths winding through the villages and towns, taking visitors on scenic routes between Alpine passes, South Tyrol is a particularly popular destination for cyclists.

If you decide to bring your own bicycle, you can rely on public transport and luggage transfer services to get you from one point to the next in complete comfort. If, on the other hand, you prefer to travel light, bike and e-bike hire locations are available along all of South Tyrol's cycle routes. Whether you are looking for a mountain bike, a trekking bike or a comfortable e-bike, the professionals will help you find the perfect model for your tour.

Tailor your rental to suit to your pace: you can reserve your bicycle for half a day, a full day or even multiple weeks. For maximum flexibility, companies such as Südtirol Rad and Papin Sport offer a "one-way" service. You can rent the bike at one end of your excursion and conveniently return it to a different location at the other end of your route, giving you greater flexibility in terms of tour planning. Plan your trip by booking online on the relevant platforms: your two-wheeled adventure in South Tyrol is about to begin!

IDM Südtirol-Alto Adige/Alex Moling

Adige cycle path along the Via Claudia Augusta with side valleys

Goethe, Dürer and Empress Sissi all travelled along the Via Claudia Augusta in their times to enjoy the soothing atmosphere of the south. Today, you can follow in their footsteps along this culturally rich route and, like those who came before, get closer to the land and its people.

Puster Valley and side valley cycle path

Cross the verdant Puster Valley on an undulating route along the Rienz and Drava rivers. Numerous villages and cultural sites await along the way.

IDM Süditirol-Alto Adige/Alex Moling

Brenner–Bolzano cycle path to Salorno/Salurn with variants

This route leads from the Alpine north to the Mediterranean south, but also from the Italian-Austrian border to Bolzano/Bozen, the provincial capital. We recommend that you break the 96-kilometre journey through rural and urban areas into several stages, because the towns along the route are well worth a visit.

Take your bike on public transport

Been cycling for a long time and looking for a relaxing way to get back to base? Or are you keen to reach the starting point of your tour quickly?

In South Tyrol, combining public transport and cycling is easy and practical. Many of the approximately 140 rental points are located near train and bus stations: the ideal solution for integrating public transport into your bike holiday. Transporting bicycles is permitted on regional trains, buses and cable cars, subject to available space and passenger safety. Please note that this is a paid service and requires an additional ticket or a dedicated day pass.
