Those who catch a glimpse of the Dolomites reflected in the deep, green waters of the Lake Karersee will appreciate why there have long been legends about this lake, the depth and size of which change with the passing of the seasons. According to one story, the lake was made by the dwarf-king Laurin. He is said to have played with the colours in the sky to win the heart of a beautiful water nymph. She did not give in to him and so he made the rainbow disappear into the lake.

Karersee lake is easy to reach via public transport. If you want to go for a hike, you can reach the lake on foot in summer and in winter.

These lead alongside the shores of the colourful lake and offer you a doubly beautiful view of both the Latemar and the Rosengarten massifs and their atmospheric reflections in the turquoise surface of the water.

To Lake Carezza without a car

Discover the legendary Lake Carezza in a relaxed and environmentally friendly way using public transport. Start your journey comfortably from Bolzano on bus line 180, which takes you directly to the lake in just 45 minutes. The South Tyrol Guest Pass and Mobilcards entitle you to free travel. Single tickets and value cards are also available directly on board the bus.

Would you like to explore the impressive mountain world around Lake Carezza? Then use the cable car in Nova Levante/Welschnofen or the cable car in Tires/Tiers. The new König Laurin I gondola lift takes you to the middle station, from where you can take the Tschein chairlift to the Hotel Moseralm. From there, it's just a few minutes' walk across the suspension bridge along paths no. 16 and no. 6, which take you directly to the shores of Lake Carezza.
