The Bletterbach gorge teaches remarkably about the origins of the Dolomites
While hiking through the Bletterbach Gorge, you'll probably feel like in a time machine: Is this really a fossil track made by dinosaurs? From the last glacial period onwards, the stream has dug a deep gorge and created what we deem as"the Grand Canyon of South Tyrol" with the Weisshorn mountain in the background. – This is the largest gorge of South Tyrol. . On the high and rocky walls of the eight-kilometer-long gorge, rocks with colorful layers can be seen. It is from these traces that the history of the formation of the Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage can be read as in a history book.
The enchanting canyon and respective museum "GEOMuseum" im GEOPARC Bletterbach can either be explored on your own or with expert guides. The offer ranges from shorter walks to easy hikes and thematic tours to a varied children's program. And with a bit of luck, both the younger and the elder will encounter fossil traces along their way: like plant remains or quadruped footprints in stones. A worthwhile leaving experience in spring, summer and autumn.
