22nd International Brass Festival - BLECHSCHADEN (Germany)
    Meran/Merano, Meran/Merano and environs
On stage for over 35 years, every member of the ensemble is a proven top musician. It would be easy to label Blechschaden as "tried and tested and never equalled". But that's only one side of the brass medal; the other, for which they are loved by their loyal fan base, is their tireless commitment to bringing out the fun side of music and, in doing so, making a mockery of any attempt to differentiate between light and serious music. The world-famous "fun faction" of the Munich Philharmonic shows with every one of its performances that any kind of music, whether pop or opera, musical or classical symphony, can be a pleasure if it is presented in the right, unconventional way. In the new programme for their 2023 tour, the philharmonic "Foreign "foreign legionnaires" mix the various musical genres into a highly entertaining entertaining cocktail of melodies, garnished with hilarious moderations and interludes. In particular, their Scottish director Bob Ross generously reaches into the humour box in a very un-Scottish way. Whether "classical music, but with humour" ("Nessun dorma" from Puccini's opera "Turandot"), musical hits "in brass" ("I Don't Know To Love Him" from Webber's "Jesus Christ Superstar") or a suddenly orchestral pop anthem ("Earth, Wind and Blechschaden Fire"): For all the serious professionalism with which the musicians master their instruments, Blechschaden always prioritises one thing: giving the audience fun with and around the music. Is that possible in Bavaria without Bavarian music? Of course not! So something hearty like the "Steingadener Musikantenmarsch" is a must. The Münchner Merkur newspaper aptly described the extraordinary ability of the ensemble around its founder Bob Ross to combine musical perfection with the highest art of entertainment as follows: "Blechschaden means the perfect elimination of all boundaries between serious and popular music" and the Neue Westfälische Zeitung summarised a Blechschaden concert in the golden words: "We are the Champions" sounds symphonically compact through the room They really are, and the encores from "Rocky" to a crisp Irish round dance are also top class - no wonder they have already won the 'Echo-Klassik' award twice."

Day of Romanesque on Hocheppan Castle
Eppan an der Weinstaße/Appiano sulla Strada del Vino, The South Tyrolean Wine Road
On October 12, 2024, on Romanesque Day, you will have the opportunity to experience the mystical world of the Romanesque period in South Tyrol during free guided tours of 31 impressive cultural sites along the "Alpine Romanesque Road". From Burgeis to Neumarkt and Innichen, churches, castles, chapels and monasteries open their doors on this special day to present the art and cultural treasures of this period. The castle chapel at Hocheppan Castle also invites all interested parties on this day. This chapel is considered one of the most important Romanesque monuments to art in South Tyrol and impresses with its valuable frescoes. The frescoes, which were only fully uncovered in 1926, date back to the first decade of the 13th century. In addition to religious motifs, rare secular depictions can also be found here, such as a hunting scene on the outer wall. The frescoes of the foolish virgins and the dumpling eater - the first pictorial evidence of Tyrolean dumplings - are particularly well-known. The Romanesque Day offers a unique opportunity to discover the cultural and historical treasures of South Tyrol and to experience the fascinating architecture and works of art of the Romanesque period up close.

Obotola Kirschta with original transumanza in Val Casies Valley
    Gsies/Valle di Casies
In Val Casies Valley, in the village of S. Maddalena, the traditional "Kirschta" (church day) is celebrated in autumn. We particularly recommend the "Original Obolola Almabtrieb" on Saturday afternoon. The farmers, dressed in traditional costumes, bring their livestock, such as cows, sheep and goats, directly from the mountain pastures back down to the valley. The animals are lavishly decorated with flowers, wreaths and bells. At the end of the valley, there is traditional food and musical entertainment until the end of the festival. On Sunday, the Kirchtag is celebrated with the traditional morning pint in the S. Maddalena Association House with traditional music and local, regional specialities.

    Village Festival "Segra Sacun"
    Urtijëi/Ortisei, Dolomites Region Val Gardena
It is probably the most beautiful pilgrimage across the whole Alpine region: when autumn is at its most colourful, on the second Sunday in October, the villagers of Ortisei go up to the Chapel of San Giacomo. The location itself is heavenly: the chapel and the visitors look out across the Sassolungo from a spot on the steep mountain forest. From here, the mountain comes across like a cathedral of nature. Blessed as one is after a view like this, on Monday go to the traditional Segra Sacun market. Here it's all about the more earthly delights. The whole pedestrian zone is a lively market square, where walking through can be a bit difficult at times. Culinary delights, craftsmanship, carved and painted, are on offer. Another old tradition takes place in the market place: men ripe for marriage will buy a pear at the market, which they will decorate with a ribbon and give as a present to their chosen one. During Easter the following year, the woman has to give the man Easter eggs. Important: the man cannot forget to pick up the eggs if he wants to win his woman over.
