    Sacred Heart Feast
    Urtijëi/Ortisei, Dolomites Region Val Gardena
    Every third Sunday after Pentecost, Sacred Heart bonfires light up from the hills throughout South Tyrol in the evening. These custom dates back to 1796 where the Tyrolean troops, worried about a possible invasion by French troops under Napoleon, decided to ask God for help and to entrust the Tyrol to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. After the surprising victory of the Tyrolean troops, fires were lit on the tops of the mountains and hills. The Sacred Heart Feast is introduced with saluting bangs and bell ringing. The saluting bangs are loud acoustic signals that are fired in Tyrol to announce high occasions. The festival is celebrated with a holy mass at 9:00 a.m. in the parish church of Ortisei. To celebrate the church consecration in a fitting manner, a procession with Val Gardena’s costumes and the music band of Ortisei will take place after the mass.

    Fires on the mountain peaks in June The Sacred Heart of Jesus Sunday is a very special day in South Tyrol. On the third Sunday after Pentecost, open fires are lit on all of the major mountain ranges of the region. The tradition of lighting fires on the mountains goes back to pre-Christian times. Ritual fires were lit on hilltops and mountains especially at the time of the summer solstice. In Christian times the solstice and the Feast of St. John were very close and in many places the “St. John’s fire” was lit. The feast of the Sacred Heart is also celebrated at the end of June (on the 3rd Sunday after Whitsun) and the fire on the mountains gradually became renamed. Today the fires across the mountains are prepared by societies or circles of friends and are lit in places where they are visible from afar. The wood is often carried for hours up to the mountain tops. Some fires are built in the form of a cross, a heart or the initials for Jesus IHS or INRI.

In this highly varied concert program, the young duo Ariarathes not only juxtaposes main works of their genre but also presents paradigmatic works by three of the most famous composers in music history: Bach, Beethoven & Rachmaninoff. While each of these masters was at the height of their creative powers when composing the works of this concert evening, it is evident that each composer pursued very different goals: elite secular entertainment music with Bach, profound passion and emotional depth with Rachmaninoff, and complex analytical play with the fundamentals of music with Beethoven.     Innichen Active: Hike in the Innerfeldtal / Val Campo di Dentro valley

    We take the public bus to the beginning of the valley between Innichen and Sexten. From there we hike thorugh the beautiful Innerfeldtal valley to the Drei Schuster Hütte. Alternatively, the way back can also be done partly by public transport (descent only approx. 30 min) difficulty: medium start: 08.30 am at the Tourist Office (bus lin. 446 starts at 8.48 am at the Haunold / Baranci) return: 04.00 pm approx. walking time: 4 hours approx. equipment: good shoes, water, food (lunch possibility in the hut), rain protection Don't forget your Südtirol Guest Pass for the bus.
