The charming historic center of Kastelruth will once again provide the festive backdrop for the traditional Christmas market this year. Lovingly decorated stalls offer a wide range of gift ideas: handcrafted items, nativity figurines, South Tyrolean specialties, aromatic herbs, candles, and much more invite visitors to stroll and browse in a cozy atmosphere. With a warming mulled wine, fragrant Christmas cookies, or the popular homemade "Kastelruther Krapfen," guests can enjoy the sounds of Christmas music, escape the hustle and bustle of the season, and take in some peaceful, reflective moments. The musical program features alpine horn players, brass ensembles, choirs, and singing groups from the region. Highlights: On Saturday, December 13, the traditional Krampus Run will take place starting at 5:00 PM. On Friday, December 19, 2025, the Kastelruther Spatzen will give their traditional Christmas concert in the tennis hall in Telfen/Kastelruth. Before the concert, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, there will be an autograph session with the band at the Christmas market – accompanied by musical performances from the Alhorn players Seiser Alm and the Kastelruther „Turmbläser“. On the first Sunday in Advent, the House of Culture in Steinegg is transformed into an atmospheric Christmas market, organised by the charity women of Steinegg. The traditional market offers a warm atmosphere, lovingly designed stands and a diverse range of handmade products, delicious treats and festive decorations. The special thing about this Christmas market is that all the net proceeds go to charity. The 20 or so active members of the association and numerous supporters from Steinegg and the surrounding area work hard to make this day a very special event. Immerse yourself in the pre-Christmas atmosphere and do good at the same time.

Franco Branciaroli is the protagonist of Sior Todero Brontolon, a masterpiece by Carlo Goldoni presented in 1762 at the Teatro San Luca in Venice and received with great warmth right from its debut. Miserly, imperious, irritating with the servants, oppressive with his son and granddaughter, distrustful and touchy towards the world: it would seem impossible to empathise with Sior Todero Brontolon. Nonetheless, the indefinable ‘brontolòn’ has attracted actors of the calibre of Cesco Baseggio, Giulio Bosetti or Gastone Moschin, and it is now Branciaroli, a master of the contemporary stage, who offers an extraordinary and unexpected new interpretation directed by Paolo Valerio. It was Goldoni himself who was amazed at how a text centred on such an odious and negative character had achieved such success. Needless to say, the topicality and peculiarities of his Todero are unscathed even today. For the first time, Valerio's direction brings together Goldoni's world with that of puppets, two universes that meet in the microcosm of a real and imaginary place. A reinterpretation conducted with strict philological respect for the text and that - at the same time - brings to the stage an original intuition such as that of the puppets alongside the actors, as their alter egos. Valerio and Branciaroli are preparing to amaze the audience once again with their reinterpretation of a classic of Italian theatre, which can still suggest much to contemporary sensibilities. Just think of the subtle and decisive role that Goldoni entrusts, in the play, to the female world, the only one that in the dramaturgical development appears fully positive. And the finale of the play - at a time when the concept of “patriarchy” dominates our chronicles in its most distorted and leaden meanings - weaves a vein of disturbance into the joyfulness of the resolution. The Group of devils in Villnöss valley organises the traditional Krampus parade. Over 300 Krampus from all over South Tyrol await you. The festival starts at 6.30 pm; the Krampus run begins at 7.30 pm. The route is closed off. Afterwards, after-show party in the culture house of St. Peter with DJ Favy & DJ Markus.

I go around from house to house and am known as...” On December 5 from 5 pm, we will parade together with St. Nicholas from the "Thurner" parking space to the square in front of the middle school. There, the local theater organization Jenesien offers drinks and hot dogs.

For more than half a century, the "Nikolauskommitee Schlanders" has been introducing the old South Tyrolean tradition of St. Nicholas parade. Passing the retirement home and the hospital, St. Nicholas runs with his carriage through the center to the Plawennpark, where the celebration ends. Every year, the traditional St. Nicholas procession takes place in Sterzing on the evening of December 5th. While Knecht Rupprecht and the Moors help St. Nicholas distribute the presents, the “Tuifl” (Krampus) use their rods to keep order. Originally, the custom was used in early winter to scare off threats from the spirits of darkness and frost. The traditional procession begins at 6 p.m. and moves from the north through the old town, across the town square, through the Zwölferturm tower and into the new town. In the afternoon, St. Nicholas makes a number of house visits, during which he is also accompanied by the Tuifl.

St Nicholas procession with little Krampuses in Lana. The idea of taking away the fear of Krampus from the youngest children in our village at an early age bore great fruit last year. St. Nicholas will parade through the Gries with his little entourage on 6 December and distribute his gifts to the children at the Thalerhof, from the Capuchin church in Lana at 5.00 pm.
