In a valley in which dialect and garb are still alive, it is not unusual that its tradition is thoroughly cultivated. The „Klöckeln“, is a pre-Christian custom practised the first weeks of December and has an old tradition.

An event that opens the culinary winter season in Alta Badia: an itinerant journey on skis from hut to hut, where guests can savor the exclusive creations of five Michelin-starred chefs.
Some of the chefs from the Skiing with Taste project will be present in person, offering the chance to meet them along the way. Each dish will be paired with a refined selection of South Tyrolean wines, making the day an unforgettable celebration of flavors and mountain atmosphere.

Val Gardena is a paradise for skiers regardless of their level: newbies and passionate amateur skiers spend their holidays in the valley. However, for a few days a year, the skiing slopes of Dolomites Val Gardena attract the creme de la creme of skiing. And you, as our guests, will have the opportunity of following the skiing stars live from the edge of the slopes as they battle for a place on the podium of the FIS World Cup.

The history of the World Cup in Dolomites Val Gardena goes back to the 1970s. The Saslong slope is one of the most beautiful and well-known stages of the world cup, what with its famous and feared ‘camel hump’ and speeds of up to 100 km an hour. The Ski World Cup took place in 1970 in Dolomites Val Gardena, among other places; on that occasion the whole skiing world set its eyes on the Saslong slope. Women and men took part in dozens and dozens of races on the slope as well as on the region’s other famous slopes: Ronc, Ciampinoi and Cir. Today, a super-G and a men’s downhill race take place in Dolomites Val Gardena once a year.

Pre-Christmas time is San Candido time: from 20th to 21st December, the FIS Ski Cross World Cup will take place in the holiday region 3 Zinnen Dolomites for the 15th time. Fans of the "Formula 1 of skiing" can once again look forward to a total of four spectacular races at the Monte Baranci.

TWO RACES, ONE UNIQUE EVENT From December 20th to 22nd, the Ski World Cup returns to Alta Badia. Elite competitors will once again show their talent on the slopes with an adrenaline-fueled exhibition of skiing excellence. The difference between legend and also-ran can be a fraction of a second. And you will get to live and breathe every moment. Share the excitement with other enthusiasts as the competitors cross the finish line, where every last curve is the ultimate test of nerve. Once more, in this 40th edition, the world's best ski racers will battle on one of the most difficult tracks in the white circus. The unmissable spectacle of the men’s giant slalom taking place on the Gran Risa, in the heart of the spectacular Dolomite mountains. From Alberto Tomba to Bode Miller and Marcel Hirscher, there are many champions who have triumphed on this track, which is one of the hardest slopes in the world.

The International New Year’s Eve Run BOclassic starts and ends directly at the Bolzano Christmas Market on the Walther Square. The event is an institution - since 1974 the year has been brought to a sporty end in Bolzano. Runners from all over the world meet in the provincial capital on December 31 to compete in the Raiffeisen BOclassic South Tyrol, which starts and ends at the central Walther Square. It is the last day of the year, when in the afternoon the athletes first run through the Bolzano Christmas Market, cross the old town with Piazza delle Erbe and Via dei Portici, reach the Piazza della Stazione and then - after exactly 1,250 metres - can be seen again at Piazza Walther. This is repeated eight times for the male top athletes of the BOclassic Elite, and four times for the female participants. The other four categories do fewer laps: the Just for Fun event for everyone, the 5 km long Ladurner Run, the Raiffeisen Youth Cup and the Handbike Show Run. Years ago, a starting fee had to be paid, today, the elite runners arrive exclusively on invitation. The BOclassic is the annual start of the South Tyrol Top 7 running series, which also includes the Caldaro Lake Run and the Lake Resia Run.

From January 3 to 6, 2026, a World Cup race on natural track will take place in the Passeiertal Valley. Following the World Championships in 2009, the World Cup races in 2013, 2014 and 2020, the Junior World Cup in 2025, and the European Championships in 2016, the well-known "Bergkristall" toboggan run in Pfelders/Plan will once again be the venue for a major luge event. Sharp bends and breathtaking speed make the World Cup race an exciting spectacle for the whole family. The Passeier-Raiffeisen Luge Club is once again committed to staging a high-level event.

After three years, the U18 Women’s World Championship Division I, Group A returns to Klobenstein/Collalbo in 2026, an eagerly anticipated international highlight.

The six participating teams from Italy, Germany, Norway, France, Denmark, and Japan promise top-level international hockey and thrilling action – Collalbo is ready for a world-class ice hockey event in 2026.

At the FIS Telemark World Cup on the slope „Masaré“, directly below the Rosengarten in the ski area Carezza Dolomites, athletes from around the world engage in an exciting sprint race competition over two days. The various obstacles they must overcome, such as giant slalom, jump, the 360 and skating, are very interesting for numerous spectators to watch.

The Carezza Telemark World Cup has been recognized as a GreenEvent this year.

The toboggan world cup in Deutschnofen takes place on the „Pfösl Riep“ natural toboggan run, which is one of the most well-known tracks in South Tyrol. The course is challenging and offers athletes a combination of tight curves and technical sections. It winds through the beautiful South Tyrolean landscape and is highly popular among athletes and spectators for its difficulty and scenic beauty.

The Dumpling Pleasure Marathon – An event where active fun, nature and cuisine come together! Along the 50 km Val Casies cross-country trail, skiers can join at many access points and set their own pace. Walkers use the signposted winter hiking paths that lead past participating venues. From 11:00–16:00, hosts serve dumpling specialities – from hearty speck dumplings to beetroot and herb dumplings, through to dumplings with goulash; for dessert, sweet dumplings. It’s about the experience, not the race.

In Ortisei you can’t just find carved traditional sculptures of wood, but in winter also some made of ice. In the week from 19.01.-25.01.2026, the Tourist Office Ortisei, in coorporation with local artists, will realize sculptures, that you can admire along the pedestrian area. The women's giant slalom on the Erta has now established itself as a renowned race and can no longer be missed in the ski scene. The Erta slope is quite impressive - with a length of 1,325 m, a difference in altitude of 405 m and a maximum gradient of 61%, it demands the fullest skill and a large portion of courage from the participants.

Moonlight Classic - cross country race by night Moonlight Classic Seiser Alm is a cross-country-skiing race on the Seiser Alm/Alpe di Siusi / South Tyrol / Italy. The distances are 15 and 30 km,the classic diagonal style only is allowed. We promote young talents, support us! For every registration, the Moonlight Classic organisation committee donates one Euro, which will be doubled by a sponsor, to the South Tyrolean Sports Aid in order to support the young athlethes.

The Banishing of Winter in Prato allo Stelvio The banishing of winter and the race of the Zussl are ancient traditional customs practiced only in Prato allo Stelvio. Every year at this time, there is a carnival procession and a noisy ritual repeated exactly the same way. On Shrove Tuesday the town’s youth wear white costumes adorned with colored flowers made of paper and large bells, some as heavy as 20 kg, are worn around the waist of the males. The Zussl are dressed in white from head to toe and adorned with colored ribbons and paper pulp flowers. Tied around their waists, they wear large noisy bells, which often weigh over 20 kilos.

Exactly 70 years after Cortina and 20 years after Turin, the world's largest winter sports event will once again take place in Italy. Antholz will host the Biathlon competitions. Thus, for the first time in sports history, Olympic medals will be won on South Tyrolean soil. FIL Alpine Luge World Cup on Natural Track in the Jaufental Valley – February 19 to 21, 2026 From February 19 to 21, 2026, the picturesque Jaufental Valley will become a hotspot for international luge sport. The world’s best male and female lugers will compete in the FIL World Cup in Natural Track Luge, battling for medals and valuable World Cup points. This three-day sporting event promises pure excitement: February 19 – Training February 20 – Training February 21 – The Main Competition Day Fans can look forward to top-level races, thrilling duels, and impressive performances. For those who can't attend in person, there's good news: The races will be broadcast via live stream, allowing viewers around the world to follow this major sporting event from the comfort of their homes. The Gsiesertal Lauf is one of the best-known and best-loved ski marathons in the entire Alpine region. It is the second largest ski marathon in Italy, and is held on the 3rd weekend in February in the Val Casies Valley, South Tyrol (Italy). Ever since it was first held back in 1984, this race has never once been cancelled due to weather conditions. In 2021, the event was cancelled for reasons of force majeure (Corona). The event attracts a great deal of international skiers, with a good forty nations at the starting line every year and a great many World and Olympic Champions listed on the roll of honour. In 2026, it will take place at the same time as the ‘Milan-Cortina Olympics’. This is a unique opportunity for all participants to experience some Olympic competitions either in the neighbouring Antholz Valley or in Cortina (distance 35 km) in addition to their own sporting activities. The race runs along two routes, one of 30 km and one of 42 km; the classic race is held on Saturday and the skating race on Sunday. The amateur “Just for Fun” group. with none of the stress of rankings and timekeeping, is also extremely popular, and the programme of events also includes the “Gsiesertal KIDS Run” on Saturday.

20 kilometres, 2,000 metres of elevation gain – a unique mountain running and ski touring race from Bolzano/Bozen to the Rittner Horn. On Saturday, March 7, 2026, the 7th edition of the Horn Attacke will take place – a spectacular duathlon combining running and ski mountaineering on the Ritten Plateau. Within just a few years, the Horn Attacke has become a key event in both the Italian and international mountain sports calendar. The legendary course is as demanding as it is impressive: over 20 kilometres, participants conquer 2,000 metres of altitude gain, divided between a running and a ski touring section. The race starts right in the centre of Bolzano/Bozen. From there, the route follows hiking trail no. 6 up to Oberbozen and continues to Pemmern, where the transition zone is located. Here, athletes switch from running shoes to touring skis and tackle the final 7 kilometres to the finish line at the Rittner Horn (2,260 m). The goal of the day is clear – and already announced in the event’s name: the “attack” on the Rittner Horn. The duathlon is much more than a niche race – it’s a true adventure for all mountain sports enthusiasts. Participation is open to both individual athletes and relay teams. Those who prefer to share the challenge can register as a two- or three-person team: Two-person relay: athlete 1 runs from Bolzano/Bozen to Pemmern, athlete 2 completes the ski touring section. Three-person relay: athlete 1 runs to Oberbozen, athlete 2 to Pemmern, and Athlete 3 takes on the ski ascent to the Rittner Horn. For tireless adventurers, there’s also the original “Mountaineer” version: the ski touring equipment is carried from the start in Bolzano all the way to the transition in Pemmern, and the running gear must be taken along to the finish – an extra endurance challenge for true mountain athletes.
