Every two years during carnival season, one of the most original carnival parades in the country takes place in Stilfs: the “Pfluagziachn.” This custom features an "Arlpflug" (a traditional plough), which was still occasionally used as a potato hiller in the 20th century, being pulled through the village by the “Schimmel” (a white horse) and six “Öchslen” (little oxen). A wide variety of characters in unusual costumes take part, performing a complex improvised “mock battle” between opposing groups from the village. Conflicts between young and old, men and women, locals and nomads, farmers and farmhands, performers and spectators are parodied in these lively exchanges. Traditionally, the female roles are also played by men. The Pfluagziachn of Stilfs traces its roots back to an old rural carnival tradition. Noise-making rituals to drive out winter are typical throughout the Vinschgau region, but the Pfluagziachn in Stilfs stands out due to its comedic nature. It’s a unique custom—a kind of interactive street parade from ancient times, a rural commedia that, in the process, brings a largely vanished traditional world back to life.

With the cablecar Speikboden and the chairlift Sonnklar it goes up to 2.400m in the early morning, right in the middle of the Ahrntal mountains. Once arrived at the top, you have the opportunity to hike to the Sonnklar Cross, which is only 10 minutes away, or you can enjoy the first sunrays directly at the panoramic tower.

The restaurant Sonnklar and the Schüsslerhof offer you a breakfast afterwards - registration for the breakfast required!

For the first track on the slopes, it can be used the cablecar Speikboden, the conveyor belt "Tottomandl" and the chairlift Sonnklar during continuous opening hours. No special ticket is necessary for this, all regular lift tickets are valid (which can be booked online or purchased at the ticket office even on the day of the special ride). All other lifts will open at 08.30 am.

On Shrove Tuesday, February 17, 2026, Tramin will once again shine in the colorful splendor of the Children’s Egetmann Parade – one of the oldest and most fascinating carnival traditions in the Alpine region, dedicated specifically to the young people of Tramin in even-numbered years. This parade is a miniature version of the grand Egetmann Parade and offers a unique glimpse into the traditional carnival season. The children take on the roles of the adults: trumpeters, Ausschnöller, Ausmesser, and Wegmacher lead the procession, followed by the Schnappvieher and the magnificent wedding carriages of Egetmann-Hansl. Other colorful floats, including those of the bakery, the smithy, and the famous Altweibermühle, complete the vibrant spectacle. A special highlight of this parade is that girls are allowed to participate, making it even more diverse and lively. In contrast, in the adult Egetmann Parade, women are not permitted to join. This rule is rooted in a long-standing historical tradition.

The colourful hustle and bustle during the Carnival season is an important event for Ortisei. This year, on 17th of february a “Carnival skiing” takes place on the Palmer and Furdenan ski slopes. Masked skiers will get delicious Loacker-biscuits. The nicest masks will be awarded!

Carnival party on the slope: costume parade open to everybody with award for the best Carnival Outfit. Ski & acrobatic show with the Pirates Freestyle Team and DJ.
