Idyllically located churches and chapels, richly adorned monasteries, castles and fortresses: on Saturday, 11 October, and Sunday, 12 October 2025, the Romanesque Days offer a rare opportunity to discover an exciting art period in many different ways. A total of 33 cultural sites across South Tyrol and nearby Switzerland will open their doors for free guided tours. Step into monastic life of the past, explore chapels usually closed to the public, discover artistic treasures in castles and fortresses, and listen to music and texts from ancient manuscripts – these and many other extraordinary experiences await during the Days of Romanesque Art. Through exclusive and free guided tours, visitors can admire hidden beauties and historical secrets of well-known or lesser-known monuments and sacred buildings from the period between 950 and the mid-13th century. On this special occasion, the castle chapel at Hocheppan Castle also welcomes all those interested. Free guided tours take place every half hour between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Considered one of the most important Romanesque monuments in South Tyrol, the chapel impresses with its valuable frescoes. The wall paintings, only fully uncovered in 1926, date back to the first decade of the 13th century. In addition to religious motifs, they also include rare secular depictions, such as a hunting scene on the outer wall. Particularly famous are the frescoes of the foolish virgins and the "dumpling eater" – the first known pictorial representation of Tyrolean dumplings. The Days of Romanesque Art offer a unique chance to discover South Tyrol’s cultural and historical treasures and to experience the fascinating architecture and artwork of the Romanesque period up close. Interested in visiting one of our characteristic farmsteads? The Moarhof farm in the hamlet of Obergoste invites you to take a tour of its barn, stables, petting zoo and dairy farm. Following the tour, you can savour some farm products such as milk, butter, yoghurt, cheese, smoked sausages called „Kaminwurzen“ and bacon.

ONLY IN GERMAN! From the beginning of October, at the end of the grape harvest, until the beginning of the pre-Christmas season is "Törggelezeit". After leisurely walks through the golden autumn landscape, guests and South Tyroleans enjoy the products of the harvest, especially chestnuts and new wine (Sußer). On this week's hike we visit the Bachlerhof. We take the bus from the village centre of Schenna up to the Pichler restaurant and then hike through the Vallplatz forest to the Bachlerhof farm and after a stop for refreshments we continue to Verdins. From the starting point you are free to decide whether to return on foot or by bus. A Törggelemenü and hearty music are of course not to be missed! From the bridge on the road to the Timmelsjoch Pass at the end of the Val Passiria valley, we begin our hike along the high-altitude trail “Tiroler Höhenweg,” which gently ascends through the forest. The final section climbs more steeply, leading us up small switchbacks to the Monteneve mine. We take a break at the Monteneve inn to refresh ourselves, then continue on to the “Obere Gostalm” mountain pasture, before returning to the road to the Timmelsjoch Pass. As the first rays of sunlight bathe the mountains in warm light and you feel the peacefulness of nature, the early wake-up call and the climb are quickly forgotten. Together, we'll hike to the summit in the early morning hours and enjoy the breathtaking panoramic view. After this special nature experience, we'll round off the tour with a delicious breakfast at a cozy alpine hut. Join herbal expert Rosi on a hike around St. Leonhard/S. Leonardo, get to know the local herbs and learn all about their use in the medicine cabinet. In the following workshop, you will prepare natural remedies together with Rosi and receive valuable tips for your home pharmacy. During the colourful autumn, families interested in nature learn in a playful way about the forest and its inhabitants together with a biologist on a walk around St. Magdalena: Which trees grow in Villnöss valley? Which animals can we observe in the forest? You will learn lots of exciting things about the forest through games, searching for clues and interesting materials. Target group: Families with children aged 6 to 12 years. The guided excursions about the cestnut to Glaning/Afing will start every Thursday at 10 a.m. at the tourist office of San Genesio. During this excursion, you will learn many secrets about the cultivation of these precious autumn fruits admiring the colorful chestnut trees. There will be breaks with local product tastings at the "Törggelen" restaurants of San Genesio. Registration is required: within 12 noon of the previous day, by telephone or by e-mail contacting the Tourist Office S. Genesio.

During the 28th Chestnut Weeks there is a varied program with guided tours, hikes, tastings and much more!. During the Chestnut Days "KESCHTNRIGGL", everything revolves around the "Tisner Kescht" (Chestnut of Tesimo). During the Chestnut Days, menus in selected restaurants feature specially created chestnut dishes. The chestnut is the protagonist of numerous events during the Chestnut Days KESCHTNRIGGL.

Keschtnriggl - Chestnut days. The Chestnut Weeks and the Törggelen in Merano and Environs have been a South Tyrolean Tradition for years. Chestnut days in Tesimo/Tisens - Prissiano/Prissian, Foiana/Völlan and Lana gets ist Name from the "Keschtnriggl" - a hand-braided basket for Peeling roast chestnuts. For three weeks, a colourful Event Programme is put on for visitors: Chestnut walks, torchlight processions from castle to castle and the "Keschtnfestl" feast in Foiana, with Music, farmers market, chestnut delicates and traditional crafts. The aromatic fruit with ist spiky Shell, grows particularly well in Merano and Environs, and during this green Event has pride of place in the specialities of traditional inns and prestigious Restaurants, as well as in exquisite chestnut products such as sweet chestnut hearts, aromatic chestnut beer, hearty chestnut stollen, tasty chestnut spraed, luxuriant chestnut cake, fluffy chestnut bread, the excellent chestnut panettone as well as the noble chestnut praline.

From the centre of Barbiano/Eisacktal we hike in the direction of the ‘Trimm Dich Weg’, past the sports zone to ‘Bad Dreikirchen’, with its three unique chapels built next to each other. We walk along the easy forest path to the ‘Briol’ inn and on to the upper (45 m high) and lower waterfall (85 m high), the highest point of the hike. Now it's downhill and back to the starting point. Our apple farmer accompanies you through the apple meadows and tells you interesting facts about the diverse fruit. Afterwards, farmers Gitti and Sepp will make, bake and, of course, taste Apfelkiachl (apple fritters). Sheep shearing is the very first step in the journey "from sheep to sweater" – a traditional craft that requires skill and experience. At the MuseumPasseier, professional sheep shearer Albert will demonstrate how sheep are sheared, while Annelies shares fascinating facts and stories about sheep and their role in local culture. The tour continues at Spinnradl, a local business where regional sheep's wool has been processed into unique knitted jackets since 1948. Owner Franz will guide you through the workshops, giving you an up-close look at the entire process – from washing the wool, carding, spinning, and knitting, all the way to sewing the finished garments. To round off the experience, you'll get hands-on and creative during a felting workshop – an authentic craft adventure for all ages!
