Every year, the traditional St. Nicholas procession takes place in Sterzing on the evening of December 5th. While Knecht Rupprecht and the Moors help St. Nicholas distribute the presents, the “Tuifl” (Krampus) use their rods to keep order. Originally, the custom was used in early winter to scare off threats from the spirits of darkness and frost. The traditional procession begins at 6 p.m. and moves from the north through the old town, across the town square, through the Zwölferturm tower and into the new town. In the afternoon, St. Nicholas makes a number of house visits, during which he is also accompanied by the Tuifl.

“In winter I come along quietly, with a sack all full and heavy. I go around from house to house and am known as...” On December 5 from 5 pm, we will parade together with St. Nicholas from the "Thurner" parking space to the square in front of the middle school. There, the local theater organization Jenesien offers drinks and hot dogs.

St. Nicholas will parade through the Gries with his little entourage on 6 December and distribute his gifts to the children at the Thalerhof, from the Capuchin church in Lana at 5.00 pm.

Farmers and handcraft offer music, culinary delicacies, punch, hot wine, different handicrafts and natural products. The Farmers’ Advent takes place at the secondary school park (near the train station) of Klobenstein/Collalbo from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

We start with our hiking guide in front of the information office in Laion, where the cab will take us to Monte Pana (1600m). From here we take the shuttle (for a fee), he brings us to above Monte Pana. From here we hike trought the Ochsenwald and then to the Zallinger inn (2054m). Stopover at the hut followed by a joint toboggan run (for a fee) or by foot (by arrangement) down to Saltria, where a shuttle take us back to Monte Pana. The cab is already waiting for us and takes us back to Laion. Walking time: 2,5 h Height difference in ascent: 250 m Height difference in descent: 390 m Route: 8 km

You will hear historical and current facts about Marling and one or two Christmas stories on the evening lantern walk through the village center of Marling. You will be accompanied by our local guide Johanna. After the evening walk, you’ll be welcomed at the pavilion in Marling with sweet pastries, a glass of Marling wine, or a refreshing South Tyrolean apple juice, the perfect way to conclude a unforgettable evening. Registration required: Until Friday, 12 noon online or at the Tourist Association Marling. The event takes place in German.

On the second Sunday in Advent, the House of the village community in Gummer is transformed into an atmospheric Christmas market. The traditional market offers a warm atmosphere, lovingly designed stands and a diverse range of handmade products, delicious treats and festive decorations.

The young talents of the Music School of Karneid invite you to their Advent concert in the atmospheric setting of the Steinegg parish church. Let yourself be moved by the sounds as the music students express their enthusiasm and skills. Whether gentle melodies, festive pieces or Christmas classics - their music fills the church with warmth and anticipation of the festive season. In the midst of the atmospheric backdrop of the pre-Christmas season, you can take a break, savour the moment and be enchanted by the musical performance.

A snowshoe hike to discover the winter magic of Resciesa. In the company of a guide you will explore the Resciesa Alp in the middle of the Puez-Odle Nature Park, which offers a wonderful view of the surrounding landscape. Arrival by cab via Val Gardena to Ortisei to the valley station Rasciesa (1.304m). Our tour begins with the ride of the funicular (fee required) to the Rasciesa (2,254m). Once you arrive at the mountain station, start heading East by passing behind the hut. Although you'll be following a prepared track, it's possible to put on your snowshoes right away! After only a few minutes you'll reach the Cason hut. Keep wakling until you reach a crucifix, then continue uphill through the woods. Soon you'll reach the edge of the forest and the wide pastures of Resciesa will extend at your feet. You'll notice a little tower made of rocks nearby - it's called "Ciampanil de Livio" and was built by a bored shepherd while his sheep were grazing in the surrounding pastures. From here you'll be able to clearly make out the crest of Resciesa. You can reach it in little time by following a trail uphill. Once you get to the ridge, walk along it to the west (you should be able to make out a crucifix in the distance) and you'll eventually reach the highest part of the alp. Take your time to enjoy the 360 degree view from the top. To your left, you'll be able to admire the pastures above Villandro, to the North the mountains of Zillertal, to the South Alpe di Siusi with mount Sciliar and the Rosengarten, and to the East of course the unmistakable Odle mountains. This view alone is worth the excursion - it's one of the best in the valley. Once you've taken it all in, simply hike back in direction Resciesa hut - that is your last chance to enjoy a well-deserved break before returning to the middle station and getting back to Ortisei. Arrived in Ortisei we take the bus back to Laion. Walking time: 4 h Height difference in ascent:310 m Height difference in descent: 650 m Distance: 9,5 km

“Snow Tubing by night” takes place every Wednesday evening from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Both young and old can race down the fun track on inflatable tubes, creating unforgettable winter evenings. Participation is free with the Guest Pass of the Kronplatz Dolomites Region (Olang, Antholz Valley, Bruneck, Kiens, St. Vigil). All others pay an entry fee of €5.00.

Arrival by cab via Val Gardena to Ortisei to the valley station Rasciesa (1.304m). Our tour begins with the ride of the funicular (fee required) to the Rasciesa (2163m). From the top station, take trail no. 35, to the Brogles Hut (2054m). Behind the hut the path joins the Adolf Munkel path, which was built as early as 1905. You walk at the foot of the Sas Rigais until you finally reach the Geisler Alm (1996m) via the 34 path. After a comfortable break, the descent by a toboggan (for a fee) or by foot (by arrangement) follows via the 34 path to Ranui (1350m). Here the cab is already waiting to take us back to Lajen. The Dumpling Pleasure Marathon – the event where sporting fun, breathtaking nature, and culinary delights come together! The 50-kilometer-long Val Casies Valley rail offers numerous entry points, allowing for a flexible and leisurely day. From 11:00 am. to 04:00 pm., restaurants along the route provide a wide variety of Knödel specialties – from classic, hearty versions to surprisingly modern interpretations. The Dumpling pleasure marathon is the perfect meeting place for food enthusiasts and nature lovers. Whether a seasoned skier or a leisurely walker, everyone is welcome to enjoy movement, a friendly atmosphere, and delicious culinary treats. A day full of culinary discoveries and unforgettable impressions awaits!
