The magnificent woodlands of Alta Badia were deeply affected by the Vaia storm in 2018, which toppled countless trees across the mountains. Since then, the bark beetle—a pest that targets spruce trees—has spread rapidly, increasing tree mortality by up to 200% in some Alpine areas. September 14 will be a day of unity and action. Together with local residents, visitors, businesses, and nature enthusiasts, we will plant new trees with WOWnature to help restore and regenerate these forests. Thanks to the support of people like you, thousands of trees have already been planted. But our work is not finished. With WOWnature, we aim to continue for as long as the mountains need us and as long as people and companies are willing to contribute. We will plant not only spruces, but also birches, alders, larches, and other broadleaf species to help create a more diverse and resilient ecosystem—better able to withstand pests, disease, and climate change. For centuries, each June shepherds have been driving their sheep from the Schnalstal Valley across the still snow-mantled saddles to graze in the pasturelands belonging to the farmers in Venter Valley in Austria. They return in mid September. About 1,500 sheep leave from the “Rofenberg-Alm“ in the early morning, reaching Hochjoch near the Bella Vista lodge (2845m) at about 11:30 a. m. The sheep arrive in Maso Corto between 3:00 p. m. The Bella Vista hut (2845 m) can be reached in about 1 hour on foot from the top station of the Roter Kofel chairlift (2543 m), follow the signs and trail number 3.

The earth pyramids of Perca are an architectural masterpiece of nature. These extraordinary formations were shaped by storms that caused landslides and erosion. The hike starts at the second parking lot in Vila di Sopra. A well-signposted trail initially ascends steeply through the forest, offering a varied and scenic environment. Along the way, oversized rock piles, intriguing figures, and diverse rock types create a unique hiking experience. The highlight is reaching the impressive earth pyramids, remarkable in size and shape. The return route follows the road to Plata and leads back to the starting point. Backpack provisions. Fancy a varied hike where you can experience the secrets of nature? This guided tour through the Texelgruppe Nature Park has the motto "Precious water" - because water has played a central role here for centuries: as a life-giver, landscape shaper and also as part of the regional culture via the historic irrigation channels. The hike starts at the "Kratzegg" car park in Ulfas and leads us first to the Ulfaseralm hut. We continue through flowering mountain meadows, where a variety of alpine herbs grow, to the Hahnl - a panoramic mountain ridge with an impressive panoramic view over the entire Passeiertal Valley. From the Hahnl we descend to the Waalerhütte hut and then follow the Ulfaser Waalweg - a quiet, water-accompanied path that takes us back to the "Kratzegg" car park. You will be accompanied by a trained nature park guide, who will provide fascinating insights along the way: which plants grow here? How does the landscape change throughout the year? Which animals are native, and how do humans and nature share this space? The tour is part of a series of nine guided hikes through the Texelgruppe Nature Park - each with a different destination, each path offering new perspectives. The cattle return from the alpine pastures to the valley and Sesto celebrates! The cows in particular are elaborately decorated on their return from the alpine pastures: the leading cow and the cows that follow her wear wreaths decorated with sayings, images of saints and elaborate embroidery. The Almabtrieb is combined with a festival to celebrate the safe return of the animals.

The legendary Schupfenfest in San Genesio is a rustic gastronomic festival that enthuses locals and tourists alike. The festival offers the opportunity to combine the pleasure of a beautiful hike in the alpine pastures with the enjoyment of traditional South Tyrolean specialities in mountain huts. The itinerary allows visitors to stop along the way at various 'Schupfe', or huts in South Tyrolean dialect, between San Genesio and Meltina, sampling various typical specialities, from the inevitable farmer's snack to dumplings, Strauben and other sweet pancakes. Of course, there is no shortage of good music or company. So, off to the Schupfenfest in Jenesien, possibly in traditional costumes: lederhosen and dirndl!
