    Family holidays in South Tyrol

South Tyrol’s 300 days of sunshine and landscape rich in contrast form the framework for an adventurous family-friendly holiday, inviting visitors to participate in activities at all elevations. The many excursions, hiking trails, family ski areas and adventure parks are worth a visit for both children and adults alike. No summer holiday in South Tyrol would be complete without swimming in a bathing lake such as the highly recommended Kalterer See lake, or hiking along one of the many pleasant, family-friendly trails to mountain huts with Alpine meadows and playgrounds. Many places offer specific family-friendly programmes.

For the first time, the Bücherwelten exhibition is coming to Museum Ladin. The focus of this year's edition of Bücherwelten "Bildhaft gesagt” (pictorially told) draws attention to a special kind of bookmaking: in many books, the image is not simply a visual complement to the text, but image and text form an inseparable unit in the communication of factual, scientific or narrative content. On this theme, the Museum Ladin Ciastel de Tor will be showing a selection of award-winning works from 2023, new books for children and young people, a Bookstart corner and a selection of Ladin books.

Llama meets Culture - Trekking Walk around "Montani" Castles
    Latsch/Laces, Vinschgau/Val Venosta
After first getting to know each other, starting from the animals’ winter quarters in Laces, with the llamas on a leash we walk through the surrounding apple meadows and along a serpentine path up to the castle ruins of Untermontani with a wonderful view over the entire central Vinschgau Valley. Continuing towards Obermontani Castle at the entrance to the Martell Valley, we may walk in the footsteps of our medieval ancestors and listen to the stories of our Llamero Florian before taking a rest at the castle. Florian will not only tell you everything about the llamas, but also about the historically significant surroundings. On an old Waalweg (irrigation channel) we then cross the woods above Laces with our cuddly four-legged friends that leads us to the sunny plateau of the Magrinböden. From there we descend via a forest path to the Bierkeller (refreshments possible), before returning to the starting point. If desired, a shorter route is also possible via Saint Stephen's Chapel (14th century - most extensive Gothic fresco cycle in Tyrol) or just through the surrounding meadows! The tour is especially beautiful during the blossoming time of the apple trees! Difference in altitude: approx. 100m Duration: approx. 3 hours (a shorter tour is also possible on request) Suitable for children from 4-5 years, smaller children should be accompanied by another person when leading an animal. Minimum number of participants: 3 persons Subject to change! In case of bad weather the tour will be postponed! Meeting point: enclosure of the National Park llamas behind the furniture store Avanti Trendstore in Laces (Zona industriale 15)

    CALDERA - Volcano
    Bolzano/Bozen, Bolzano/Bozen and environs
Ready to take a trip into the past? 280 million years ago, a supervolcano dominated the center of the present-day Trentino-Alto Adige region. Mighty porphyry deposits still testify to its activity, while other rock layers interspersed tell of periods of calm, during which plants and animals settled. Some of them left deep traces. Using fossils, animal models and a simulation of the supervolcano, we will bring this lost world to life. Starting March 17 at the South Tyrol Museum of Nature.

Permanent exhibition "Silent Forces of Everyday Life: folk belief"
Sand in Taufers/Campo Tures, Ahrntal/Valle Aurina
The special exhibition at Taufers Castle deals with the medieval theme of "popular belief", which combines religious aspects with superstition. Curated by Marie Rubner, it can be seen from March 29 to November 3, 2024.
The exhibition shows a view of the world that was influential until the Enlightenment and is still influential today. It does not judge, but provides insights into religious customs, rituals and the belief in otherworldly powers.
Popular belief sought to harness otherworldly powers in order to achieve safety, health and salvation.
The exhibition presents texts, exhibits and images, including unicorns, basilisks and thinkers.
Although it does not draw any conclusions, the exhibition opens our eyes to the importance of popular beliefs in society. It also shows how the focus on popular belief affects historical conflicts of faith.
It becomes clear that popular belief filled gaps in the Christian understanding of faith by turning to powers beyond. At the same time, the Catholic understanding of faith opposed pagan cults with sacramental alternatives.
A visit to the exhibition can reveal further insights and invites you to visit several times.
