In Villanders, processions are an integral part of religious and cultural life. On special church holidays such as Pentecost, Corpus Christi, the Feast of the Sacred Heart, the Assumption of Mary, and Rosary Sunday, the village community walks through the streets in a procession after Holy Mass. They are accompanied by the Villanders brass band and the “Anton von Gasteiger” rifle company, who lend the traditional celebrations a dignified and atmospheric character.

Making a wish is in again. If you see a shooting star, you can make a wish - but you can't tell anyone what it is. At the climax of the shooting star fall of the Perseids, the amateur astronomers "Max Valier" organise an open night at the "Max Valier" observatory. With your own blanket on the fields around the observatory, it is wonderful to sink into the night sky and count shooting stars. Visitors also have the opportunity to look through the observatory's telescopes and get a close-up view of exciting objects in the night sky. The amateur astronomers inform visitors about constellations, shooting stars and much more. Reservations are not necessary and the visit is free of charge.

Fancy a varied hike where you can discover the secrets of nature? You will learn lots of interesting facts about the flora and fauna of the Texelgruppe Nature Park. The guided hike starts in Innerhütt and takes us on a section of the Merano High Mountain Trail, which rewards us with impressive views of the surrounding landscape. We continue to Ulfas and Platt/Plata before reaching the Stieber waterfall. The way back takes us to Moos/Moso. There is a lot to discover on this tour - from breathtaking natural wonders to exciting insights into the flora and fauna of the region. You will be accompanied by a trained nature park guide, who will provide fascinating insights along the way: which plants grow here? How does the landscape change throughout the year? Which animals are native, and how do humans and nature share this space? The tour is part of a series of nine guided hikes through the Texelgruppe Nature Park - each with a different destination, each path offering new perspectives. Our journey begins with a drive through Val Gardena to the Sella Pass. Upon arrival, we start our hike towards the Rifugio Sasso Piatto. The path gently ascends on an alpine road, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding Dolomites. Then we walk through gentle green meadows and finally reach the Friedrich August hut, where we take a break. From there, the path continues level until the Rifugio Sasso Piatto, from where the descent to Monte Pana begins. Discover the story of the South Tyrolean apple in Merano! This apple tour of Merano's fruit cooperative CAFA will tell you everything you ever wanted to know about our local fruit. After a short introductory film, you can explore the entire cooperative in the company of our apple expert Franz and follow the storage, sorting, packaging and shipping of the South Tyrolean apple. Our apple expert will let you in on all kinds of secrets about our apples' goodness, the varieties and how best to store them at home. To round off the tour there is a brief apple tasting session. Summer night concert with the music band "Knappenkapelle Ridnaun" accompanied by the Villanders folk dance group. In 2006, the popular ‘Kinderlachen’ programme was brought to life. The first three Wednesdays in August are always reserved for our little ones. Clowns, musicians, actors and puppeteers bring their plays to the stage at 5.30 pm each week. Children are usually allowed to actively participate. Our little spectators can also quench their thirst, because we also open our bar for our little ones.

The South Tyrolean capital of Bolzano, recently designated a UNESCO Creative City of Music, is once again preparing to host one of Europe’s most prestigious cultural events in the summer of 2025: the Bolzano Festival Bozen. Each year, the festival brings together exceptional creative talents, as students from top international music academies collaborate with world-class soloists and conductors to present concerts of the highest artistic quality. Throughout the city, the air is filled with the energy of discovery and shared passion for classical music. Bolzano Festival Bozen is more than a series of concerts – it is a unique cultural platform that unites four key components of the city’s musical identity: the Antiqua Festival of Early Music, the Gustav Mahler Academy, the Ferruccio Busoni International Piano Competition, and the two prestigious youth orchestras-in-residence, the European Union Youth Orchestra and the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra. Founded by Claudio Abbado, these ensembles symbolize a shared European vision and have found their summer home in Bolzano. The festival offers a rich and diverse program, where young talent and legendary musicians come together to rehearse, perform, and inspire. Among the highlights of the 2025 edition are the final rounds of the renowned Ferruccio Busoni Piano Competition, a performance by Sir John Eliot Gardiner with the Mahler Academy Orchestra as they explore the authentic soundscapes of early 20th-century music, and the celebrated cellist Pablo Ferrández – often referred to as “the new Yo-Yo Ma” – performing with the European Union Youth Orchestra under the baton of Vasily Petrenko. Also appearing are violinist Sayaka Shoji with the Bolzano String Academy, and acclaimed performers Alina Ibragimova and Renaud Capuçon, who will join the EUYO and GMJO under Iván Fischer and Manfred Honeck, respectively. For a festival whose founding motto is “music and youth,” it’s only natural that children and young audiences are not just welcomed, but encouraged to attend. In 2025, the festival’s family-friendly offerings are being expanded even further. Children are often far more open to classical music than one might expect. In fact, during the so-called “open-eared” phase – typically the first ten years of life – they show remarkable receptiveness and curiosity, even toward complex or contemporary works. This makes it an ideal time to introduce them to the world of classical music in an engaging, meaningful way. On August 14 at 7:30 PM at the Bolzano Municipal Theatre, the European Union Youth Orchestra will perform with violinist Alina Ibragimova under the direction of Iván Fischer. Prior to the concert, there will be a special introduction to the evening's program, focusing on Stravinsky’s The Firebird. Audiences will explore the Russian folktale that inspired the famous ballet and, with help from the musicians, learn to recognize musical motifs that will reappear during the performance. This introduction will be presented bilingually in Italian and German. Another special opportunity will take place on September 6 at the Bolzano Municipal Theatre (time to be confirmed), when the public is invited to attend the orchestral rehearsal for the Busoni Competition’s grand final. Since the final performance, accompanied by the Haydn Orchestra, is traditionally sold out and broadcast live on Italian television and streamed worldwide, this rehearsal offers young music lovers a rare chance to experience the intensity and behind-the-scenes atmosphere of a major international event. The theatre will be abuzz with activity, as the RAI sets up its equipment and prepares for the live transmission. Broadcast professionals will be on hand to explain how a concert is brought to audiences across the globe.

Lantern festival at the entrance to the Val Gardena railway tunnel with the clown duo Herbert and Mimi. The clowns are two lovingly developed characters who tell their stories in a lively and cheeky way and make you laugh. Herbert and Mimi are home alone. They should actually be asleep. But the sandman has left again, and to get tired, the two of them play a game. And then another game. And discover the joy of winning and the sorrow of losing. And suddenly nothing is as it should be. Total chaos. But with the help of the audience, Herbert and Mimi make their way through the chaos so that the world is back in order. Afterwards, the children receive a lantern for the lantern parade.

The Barbian Band, from the lower Eisack Valley, is one of the oldest musical ensembles in South Tyrol. Founded in 1810, it boasts a rich history spanning more than two centuries. Today, the band includes 46 active musicians and is conducted by Harald Zemmer and led by president Markus Gantioler. A particularly striking feature of the ensemble is its strong generational diversity: about one-third of its members are under the age of 16, highlighting the importance of youth and the continued passing down of musical traditions. Look forward to a lively concert filled with passion and heritage – where tradition and future meet in harmony.
