Under the professional guidance of a state-certified mountain guide you learn the abc of climbing at the Marchegg climbing garden. Equipment is provided free of charge. You only need to bring trekking shoes or runners and comfortable clothing. Food and drinks are available in the Marchegghof tavern nearby. The Village Festival of Ortisei takes place annually on the first Sunday after the 4th of July. The feast is dedicated to the patron saint and eponym of the parish church of Ortisei, Saint Ulrich. Saint Ulrich was appointed Bishop of Augsburg in 923 and helped the poor and sick. As Val Gardena was part of the Curia of Augsburg at that time, he was declared the patron saint of the village. According to Tyrolean custom, the church consecration festival is introduced with saluting bangs and bell ringing. The saluting bangs are loud acoustic signals that are fired in Tyrol to announce high occasions. The festival is celebrated with a Holy Mass at 9:00 am in the church of Ortisei. To celebrate the church consecration in a fitting manner, a parade with Val Gardena’s costumes and the music band of Ortisei will take place after the mass.

The leisurely circular hike starts at the large Saltnerstein parking area and leads you to the mountain pine distillery at the Marzuner Schupfe. When walking in nature with your eyes open, you will find lots of materials that can be used to create surprising things. In the small workshop in the centre of Ortisei, pebbles, moss, seeds, wood, leaves, pinecones, and other natural materials are used to build small works of art together with the children. Thanks to this workshop with the Nature Park Ranger the creations can be taken home and remind even after the holidays what great things can be made with such simple materials and a little imagination. - Founded in 1978, the Puez-Geisler / Puez-Odle Nature Park extends to Würzjoch / Passo delle Erbe in the north, Grödner Joch / Passo Gardena in the south, Gadertal / Val Badia valley (Kampill, Untermoj / Longiarü, Antermöia) in the east and Villnößtal / Val di Funes and Grödntal / Val Gardena in the west. The northern portion of the park encompasses Aferer / Odle di Eores, Villnösser Geisler / Odle di Funes and Peitlerkofel / Sas da Pütia, while the southern portion encompasses the highlands of Gherdenacia, Sassongher, Puez (including Langental / Vallunga) and the Cir mountains. The park was enlarged in 1999 and now extends over an area of around 10,722 hectares belonging to the villages of Abtei / Badia, Corvara, Villnöss / Funes, St.Martin in Thurn / S. Martino in Badia, St.Ulrich / Ortisei, St. Christina / S. Cristina in Gröden and Wolkenstein in Gröden / Selva di Gardena. Apart from Villnösstal / Val di Funes, all of the park’s other municipalities are Ladin communities: St. Christina/Santa Crestina, Wolkenstein/Sëlva, Abtei/Badia and Corvara in the south, and St. Martin in Thurn/San Martin de Tor in the east. The Puez-Geisler / Puez-Odle Nature Park, which counts as a Dolomites site hut, contains all of the rock types, sediment strata and weathering forms that are characteristic of the Dolomites. The park’s karstic highlands, majestic rock faces, rolling Alpine pastures set off against bizarre looking backdrops of cleft mountains, valleys formed by extreme erosion, and dark coniferous forests comprise a multifarious landscape that is rarely found in such a small area.

Our trekking guide Florian will start with you from the meeting point at the parking lot in Upper Martelly Valley to an eventful day through the wonderful panoramic world of the National Park. Together with our llama boys Giacomo, Rocky, Rono, Rambo, Casper and Winnetou, who carry your backpacks in the pack saddle, Florian will lead you to the most beautiful places with breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. As a certified hiking guide, he will introduce you to the local flora and fauna. Through the spotting scope you may even be able to observe some wild animals, such as deer, chamois and marmots, and thus be almost as close to them as to the national park llamas, whose soothing tranquility will make you feel calm and balanced. We will stop at one of the most beautiful view points, while you will strengthen yourself with a snack of local products from the national park and enjoy the surrounding nature. Via the Panorama Trail we return to the starting point. Another route leads us to the Lyfialm (alping pasture) with its centuries-old primeval larches on the sunny side of the Martell Valley and right to the llama enclosure, the summer quarters of the animals in Thial, nearby the biathlon center. Knight Friedrich, the once most terrifying ghost of all castles and palaces, is apparently up to his tricks again in his home castle. However, he is getting on in years and has forgotten how to haunt properly. The task now is to track down the ghost and teach him how to "spook" again. Will the children succeed? But the children aged between 7 and 10 will experience a lot more at Prösels Castle. Under the supervision of professional guides, they will eat dinner together at the big knights' table, play medieval games, read from the big book of fairy tales and sleep in the knights' hall.
