Scenes of peaceful life of shepherds and grazing animals, of hard work in adverse weather and in mostly uncomfortable areas: the cultural history of pastoralism moves between these two poles. When people began to settle in the Alps, bringing their domestic animals with them, the post-glacial landscape began to change. The exhibition illustrates the steps of this development up to today's debate about grazing animals and their predators. Sculptures, models, games, interviews and videos on the work of shepherds together with their dogs provide insights into the cultural practice of pastoralism and the importance of shepherds, who not only protect the flock from wolves. Shepherding can in fact play a decisive role on the environment, biodiversity, animal welfare, climate and human nutrition.

Every first Sunday from May to October, the mountain hut landlords invite you to enjoy special delicacies and atmospheric music. The cable cars Hirzer, Verdins-Tall, chairlift Grube and the innkeepers of Obertall, Videgg and the Hirzer hiking area invite you to enjoy hiking and culinary delights.

Discover the train station! The entertainment train station at Naturno/Stava is the old train station of the Val Senales. It shows an electric train on an 800 m track, an original steam engine locomotive Waldenburg Switzerland, a tank engine locomotive, and two wagons of the Rhaetic train. The Villanders mine in the Eisack Valley, with a wide view of the Dolomites, was one of the most important mining areas in Tyrol in the Middle Ages. At that time, silver, galena, copper and much more were mined. The Villanders Culture and Museum Association has carefully restored the mine in recent years. It is now one of the few mines in South Tyrol that is open to visitors. Guided tours only from April to October on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:30 and 14:30, Sundays at 10:30 (duration approx. 1.5 h) In July & August additionally on Wednesdays at 10:30 (duration approx. 2 h). IMPORTANT: arrive at the mine at least 10 minutes in advance! Individual special tours are available all year round on request. All prices can be found on the mine's website.

At Tholerhof, both young and old, have the opportunity to gain their first riding experiences and get a feel for sitting in the saddle of these fascinating and powerful Haflinger horses and Shetland ponies. After riding, children can help with grooming and taking care of the horses. For more experienced riders, Tholerhof offers great rides in the forest around Aschbach. From high up on the horse, you'll see the surroundings from a more impressive perspective.

The wolf is back! - A human exhibition The return of the wolf raises old and new questions: How much wilderness can the densely populated alpine region tolerate? What does this mean for our relationship with the wolf? How does the predator's presence change our landscapes, herds, and ourselves? The current wolf debate shows that it is not just about the wolf. This exhibition, curated by the Alpine Museum of Switzerland, looks at people and their relationship with the wolf. It shows the situation up to 2017, with people who deal with this animal by profession recounting their experiences. Many parallels can be drawn between Switzerland, which is characterized by an alpine landscape, and South Tyrol. In comparison, there are data from South Tyrol and the latest information on the wolf situation from the Office for Wildlife Management in South Tyrol.

In addition to the permanent exhibitions ‘The discovery of Ötzi’ and ‘Primitive? Skilled!’, the archeoParc in Madonna di Senales presents a small photo exhibition every year in the museum’s cafeteria. This year’s edition features works by the young hunter Simone Santer: photographs of animals, plants, and landscapes. In addition to the permanent exhibitions ‘The Ötzi Find’ and ‘Flora, Fauna, Man’, the archeoParc in Unser Frau presents a small special exhibition every year. This year's edition is called ‘Glaciers and Me’ and is dedicated to two artistic positions on the topic to mark the Year of Glaciers: paintings by Jessie Pitt (Melbourne/Längenfeld) and photographs by Daniela Brugger (Karthaus) together with texts by glaciologist Georg Kaser (Karthaus) invite visitors to discover and reflect. The special exhibition to mark the 800th anniversary of the Castle of Taufers focuses on a medieval and social theme: the relationship between the nobility and the peasantry. The exhibition, curated by Marie Rubner and the Südtiroler Burgeninstitut, can be seen at Castle Taufers from April 18 to November 2, 2025.
The beginning of the 16th century was characterized by social, economic and religious changes. Serfdom severely restricted the rights of the lower classes and forced them to pay additional taxes to aristocratic feudal lords and the clergy. In 1525, the call for equality, justice and freedom grew louder and louder. Discontent soon turned violent and the Peasants’ War broke out like wildfire in Central Europe. 2025 marks the 500th anniversary of the beginning of the peasant revolt. To mark the anniversary, the exhibition “500 Years: Peasants‘ War - Striving for Freedom” allows visitors to immerse themselves in the history of this period.

Curated by Frida Carazzato with the collaboration of the Fondazione Bonotto, through the curatorial advice of Patrizio Peterlini, the exhibition uses the museum collection to explore the cultural legacy and artistic vision of Francesco Conz. This important figure, who worked with Fluxus, Visual Poetry and Concrete Poetry artists, played a decisive role in disseminating these artistic practices in Italy and abroad. The title of the exhibition is taken from a work by Gerhard Rühm, a visual artist, musician, poet and co-founder of the Wiener Gruppe, and one of the first artists with whom Francesco Conz began producing large-format editions. The “You and the Night and the Music” title stimulates reflections on the relationship between art, time and the links between artists, collectors and museum institutions. The conjunction “and” in the artwork becomes, in the title of the exhibition, a metaphor for both the network of cultural connections that has given rise to one of the main hubs in the Museion collection and the figure of Conz, whose passion bound together artistic and human experiences. A number of collectors and art critics, in fact, have played a fundamental role in the history of the museum collection. People like Paolo Della Grazia, who donated his collection to the museum in 2020, Luigi Bonotto, Henry Martin and many others, have helped to create an artistic heritage that is now an essential reference point for the study of neo-avant-gardes. Thanks to their activities, Museion has been able to enrich its collection with a body of works that bears witness to the value of publishing and screenprint production as a means of disseminating contemporary art. The exhibition is located in the central area of Museion Passage, a space designed to host dynamic installations that are open to the public. The central and corner sections – the latter can be visited until November 16 2025 – present a selection of screenprints on canvas produced by Conz and designed to be easy to transport and exhibit in various contexts. These works interact through videos, artists’ multiples and other editions to create an experience that reflects on the art of publishing both as an artistic tool and as an effective space of cross-genre exchange, in harmony with the Fluxus spirit.
