The Völs am Schlern loop trail is a sunny, pleasant stroll with magnificent views over the Ritten plateau and Prösels Castle.
This hike takes you on the trail of the famous Schlern witches to the mystical witch's chairs. According to legend, the two rock chairs in the Tiosler Forest served as a resting place for the Schlern witches. Whether these are objects of prehistoric significance or simply a game of nature - we cannot say for sure. For the little ones, there is a children's playground at the Marinzen alpine pasture.

Steeped in lore and legend, the St. Vigil church is a particularly special spot: On two significant days of the year, namely the equinoxes, the shadow of the Schlern mountain falls upon the church on the astronomically-defined date that marks the change of seasons.

The snowshoe hike starts at the Nigerpass and follows the hiking trail no. 1 to the Messnerjoch mountain hut. This easy snowshoe or winter hike is ideal for families and offers wonderful views of the Rosengarten massif.
A pleasant winter walk to relax and simply enjoy life in a quite area on Seiser Alm. This route offers a breathtaking view of the Schlern/Sciliar mountain, almost within hand’s reach from the Spitzbühl, and leads onwards over endless snow-covered alpine meadows back to the starting point.
This pleasant walk leads from Compatsch towards Saltria, passing the Ritsch hut and the Monte Piz and over vast mountain meadows to the Sanon hut on a relaxing traverse of the Seiser Alm. The Alpine pastures and mountain huts along the route provide a welcome destination for a relaxing break.
This winter hike starts in Saltria and leads past the Floralpina and Tirler hotels to the refuge Berghaus Zallinger and the church of the same name, in the immediate vicinity of the Plattkofel valley basin.
Starting point is the roundabout in Völs, from where you follow up to Fiè di Sopra/Umes. Turn left at the Hotel Heubad and continue along trail no. 1. The sunny path leads past some farms until you reach the Völser Weiher lake after 45 minutes.
The thirty-minute descent along trail no. 13 to St. Konstantin/ S. Costantino, passing historic summer retreat residences along the way, is recommendable. After a short break at the picturesque church, follow the trail through the meadows and woods back to Völs. This loop-route can also be hiked in the opposite direction.
The snowshoe walk to the Haniger Schwaige hut (closed in winter) takes you below the imposing face of the Rosengarten massif and under the Vajolettürme, giving you a truly unique experience of the countryside. Given that the trail leads over steep mountain meadows, you must take heed of weather conditions and avalanche warnings.
The leisurely hike leads without any significant difference in altitude from Seis, past St. Konstantin and St. Anton to Völs.

On the hike you get to Prösels Castle, built around 1200 by the Counts von Völs. In the early 16th century it was extended and converted by the Governor of Tyrol, Leonhard von Völs, to a Renaissance castle. Taking the chairlift Marinzen, in the immediate vicinity of the village centre of Kastelruth-Castelrotto you reach the Marinzen Alp in a few minutes. From there you can undertake a series of exciting hikes. The beautiful excursions to the Puflatsch-Bullaccia or to the Seiser Alm-Alpe di Siusi, Europe’s largest high plateau, are just two examples that will make the hearts of hiking enthusiasts beat faster.
For those who want to spend some time on the Marinzen Alp, the mountain hut Marinzen with its beautiful sun terrace as well as the beautifully situated Schafstallhütte (about 15 minutes’ walk away) invite to stop off. There is a petting zoo for the little ones on the Marinzen Alp as well as a big adventure playground and a fish pond for fishing (day passes can be borrowed at the Marinzenhütte).
The ridge of the Schneid (eng: “edge”) is an authentic walk on the edge in every sense of the word, forming as it does the border between South Tyrol and Trentino. But have no fear: From a technical point of view, this hike is not particularly difficult. However, given its length, it does call for a bit of stamina. The breathtaking views over the South Tyrol and Trentino Dolomites will reward you for your efforts.
This beautiful winter’s walk leads up through snowy woods from the Völser Weiher Lake to the Tuff and Hofer Alpl mountain hut. Given that the walk begins at the Völser Weiher Lake, you can also make the most of the opportunity to strap on your skates and take a spin around the lake.
There’s no place other than the Wuhnleger where you can experience such intensely beautiful views over the UNESCO World Heritage site with the Rosengarten and Vajolettürme towers. The box-seat beside the woodland, with its beautiful little lake reflecting the mountains, boasts incredible, endless views in summer and winter alike, and is the perfect place to stop for a break.
The wildly romantic Tschamin Valley between the Schlern and the Rosengarten is the perfect destination for a winter hike for all those who love unspoilt nature. The destination of this winter walk is the Rechter Leger, a wonderfully situated box-seat spot with views over the Grasleitentürme towers and the Tschaminspitzen peaks.
