Easy ski tour for beginners on the Rosskopf leisure mountain at Sterzing / Vipiteno. Start by the Rosskopf mountain station to the Sterzingerhaus mountain hut and on to the biotope Kastellacke. Turn on left here and beneath the crest upwards to the Rosskopf summit.
On a mountain range on the border between South Tyrol and Austria, the Rotbachspitze lies far above the Pfitchscherjoch and is in the catchment area of several classic ski tours.

The Rosskopf sledging track at Sterzing / Vipiteno is the longest floodlit and artificial snow covered tobbogan sledging track in Italy. The toboggan run leads through an impressive forest landscape, covering over 900 meters in elevation. It starts right by the Rosskopf cable car mountain station and runs for nearly 10 km round many twists and turns down to the valley station in Vipiteno/Sterzing.
Sleds can be rented directly and easily at the Outdoor Center - no reservation is necessary.
Please note: Helmets are mandatory for children! In addition, sturdy footwear is essential for a safe sledding experience!
Why not join a night-time sledging party on Friday evenings for a special experience on Sterzings local mountain. On these evenings the sledging trail is floodlit until midnight (cable car runs until 10 pm).
Varied ski slope by the Stocklift cable car at Rosskopf / Monte Cavallo.
By the Kinzen hamlet accross the stream and upwards through the forest along the steep trail 9 to the Bergl mountain hut (no service). Furtheron on trail 9 through scree to the jag and on the left side along the crest to the summit (2950m).
Start behind the Braunhof farm and follow the trail 6 upwards to the Saun summit (2062m). Further on trail 6 all alon the crest and over the Bairnock summit (2581m) to the Weißspitze summit (2715m), the last part on scree underground. Along the trail 6 on the exposed ridge to the next summit, the Amthorspitze (2753m). A dangerous tract is fixed with an aluminium ladder and a small bridge. Descent to the Hühnerspielhütte mountain hut and return on trail 11 and 3, along the Riedbergalm and Prantneralm mountain huts to the starting point. Lunch possibility: Hühnerspielhütte, Riedbergalm Prantneralm, Braunhof.
This easy to moderate circular trail starts in die Sportsarea Grube and goes through the Pfitschtal Alpine valley at the foot of the Zillertal Alps in two loops, and is a real insiders' tip due to its idyllic location and guaranteed snow. The trail is perfect for both classic and skating-style cross-country skiing and is prepared daily.
Starting point: mountain station Rosskopf Monte Cavallo (1.860m)
The cable car Rosskopf / Monte Cavallo (valley station near the north park in Sterzing / Vipiteno) takes you to the mountain staton. Leave the mountain station and follow the trails “Kastellacke” or “Flaner Jöchl”. After about 20 minutes of walking time you reach the mountain hut Furlhütte.
Alternative: by foot to the leisure mountain: starting from the valley station of the cable car Rosskopf Monte Cavallo on path no. 19 or no. 23, continue through a shady forest and along serpentines to a forest path until you reach the mountain station. From there follow the trails “Kastellacke” or “Flaner Jöchl” to the mountain hut Furlhütte.

Follow trail 12A by the Penserjoch pass, passing by the Penserjoch lake and the Steinwand lake. Cross the hillside below the summit and afterwards upwards at the right side along the short fixed rope route.

By the Rosskpof mountain station following on the right trail no. 19 until the weather cross. Following the signs to the road and along the road to the little chapel. Take here the trail on the right and follow the serpentines to Vipiteno.
The Zinseler in the municipality of Freienfeld is a panoramic mountain for the whole family. The starting point lies on the pass road just a half kilometer before arriving to the Penser Joch pass. Along the trail 14 you will arrive to the Jaufental joke and the Gospeneid joke and get along the crest to the southern Zinseler summit side (2421m). Suitable for sunrise and sunset tours.

On trail 6 behind the Braunhof snack point upwards through the forest. At the junction at the right always on trail 6 to the Saun summit (2062m). Return on trail 6A over the Prantneralm mountain hut and afterwards on trail 3 to the starting point. Lunch possibility: Braunhof, Prantneralm.

In 2024, the Bee Trail was revamped with interactive stations and new content, making it even more engaging and family-friendly. Children and adults alike can enjoy playful exploration through activities like a memory game, a bee swing, a "hug-a-bee" station, and a relaxing area with wooden loungers.
This project, brought to life by the Sterzing Pfitsch Freienfeld Tourism Cooperative, offers locals and visitors a captivating leisure activity, fosters collaboration between agriculture and tourism, and introduces a fresh, exciting recreational option in the Sterzing area.
The trail is also perfectly suitable for strollers, ensuring everyone can enjoy the experience. For refreshments, you can stop by Gasthof Post or Moidls Lokäischn.
By the parkin lot in St. Jakob accross the river and take on the left side trail 9 and 10. By the small creek turn rigth and follow the steep trail 10 through the forest upwards to the Viedalm mountain hut (no service). Passing by the hut and furtheron on trail 10 to the saddle and on the left side along the crest to the Felbe summit (2852m). Lunch possibility: Restaurant Hofer, Gasthof Neuwirt
By the small sports field in Mauls for about 1,5 km along the street, than on the left side along trail 10 to the street turn and here on mark 20 along the trail to the Gansör jag, passing by forest, pastures and the Gansör mountain hut (2302m, no service), Further on stoney ground upwards to win the Gansör jag (2551m).
Good prepared ski slope in the middle of the wood.
Follow the trail 14B by the pass along the crest to the Astenberg summit. Afterwards on trail 14A crossing the hillside and at the junction further on trail 10 to the Tatschspitze summit (2530m).

This Hochfeiler summit (3.510 m), surrounded by glaciers, with its highest peak situated on the Alpi Aurine, east of Brenner in Southtyrol, extends over 130 kilometres along the border.
From Sterzing / Vipiteno to the Pfitsch Valley, start by the 3rd turn and follow trail 1 upwards to the old mountain huts and furtheron all along the hillside inside the valley. The trail continues on serpentines in steady increase and over a steep pasture upwards to a junction. Follow here the trail on the left side to the summit (8A, 1A). All along the serpentines, above the ridge up to the final crest. Follow the increasingly steeper trail along the crest (on hard snow or rock underground, depending on weather) to the higheast point of the Zillertal Alps and the Eisack valley (3510m). Lunch possibility: Hochfeilerhütte mountain hut.
From Kematen on the trail 4 upwards to the Schlüsseljoch joke (2192m). Here on the left side along difficult high alpine trail 3 over the Kalkwandstange summit in direction Rollspitze summit and along the serpentines on scree floor upwards to the summit (2792m). Lunch possibility: Gasthof Alpenrose, Restaurant Kranebitt.
