Autumn days in Tramin …enjoy the golden autumn! The South Tyrolean Wine road changes into a colourful sea of vineyards and orchards. The farmers are in their heyday and the harvest gets taken in. Soon the barrels will be full, the fermentation of the popular juice from the grapes doesn’t take long to begin. Now the “Neue” new wine can be sampled, the most important moment of the year for the farmers. And celebrated it will be. How the new wine tastes – that will be found out by the people of Tramin and its guests during the traditional Autumn Days Tramin at the latest, which are always at the end of October. People of all age groups meet at the festival area that is richly decorated with lots of harvest products for a joyful festival. The “Neue” new wine and wines from Tramin get sampled; and along with this there are hearty South Tyrolean specialities. And all of the colourful shenanigans at the festival area are accompanied by the colourful and melodious performances of folk music groups. Free bus shuttle from Kaltern, St. Josef am See.

From Vinschger Paarlen rye bread and Puschtra Breatlan farmers’ bread to Schüttelbrot flat bread, country-style baked goods have always been an important part of life in Brixen. So it’s no surprise that the old town alone has around ten bakeries, each offering a unique selection of tempting goods. On the first weekend in October each year, Brixen celebrates its baking traditions. It is all about the almost extinct Villnösser Brillenschaf sheep. South Tyrol’s oldest sheep breed has a characterizing dark pigmentation around the eyes, and it seems really like the sheep are wearing glasses. During the culinary Lamb weeks from 4th to 13th October 2024 you may taste a variety of dishes made of this special lamb in one of the participating restaurants of Funes.

Pleasure moments on the square: we enjoy Andrian chestnuts. Chestnuts from the Schlosspichl chestnut grove are roasted over an open fire. This is accompanied by must, apple juice and the wines of the Andrian Winery and sweet delicacies.

Guided bike tour from Termeno to Lake Caldaro with a professional bike guide. You make a stop at a farmhouse and taste some homemade products, enjoy a Capuccino or an icecream near the lake and a glass of wine in the middle of a vineyard presented by a farmer. Many times autumn in South Tyrol is considered to be golden. Colorful leaves, deep blue skies and bright sunshine distinguish this season at Caldaro. The mediterrenean ascendancies of the South make this evidently. We recommend you to deploy the last sunbeams at Kaltern and to live the great experience of the Kaltern Wine Culinarium in the historic center of the town. On Saturday 5th of October 2024 winemakers from Caldaro present a selection of their best wines and appositely culinary delicacy will be served.

The cattle return from the alpine pastures to the valleys and South Tyrol celebrates! Especially the cows are lavishly decorated on their return from the alpine pastures. Also in Kastelruth the Almabtrieb is celebrated. In the village entertain you with musical sounds from 10:00, the Kastelruther Bauernbuffet will provide the culinary delicacies and the absolute highlight will be the alphorn players and the "Goaslschnöller". From 13:00 o'clock the highlight of the festival is admired, the spectacle of the cows passes by decorated and with pride at the crowd. Let yourself be impressed and enjoy the South Tyrolean customs!

After leisurely walks through the golden autumn landscape, guests and South Tyroleans enjoy the products of the harvest, especially chestnuts and new wine (Sußer). On this week's hike we visit the Bachlerhof. We take the bus from the village centre of Schenna up to the Pichler restaurant and then hike through the Vallplatz forest to the Bachlerhof farm and after a stop for refreshments we continue to Verdins. From the starting point you are free to decide whether to return on foot or by bus. A Törggelemenü and hearty music are of course not to be missed! Experience the “Almabtrieb” in Terento! The ceremonial driving of cattle and sheep from the green pastures back to their home farms and warm barns is a long-standing tradition in Terento. For over 100 cows, calves and sheep this event marks the end of their stay in altitude where they enjoyed the fresh mountain air, tasty grass and cool nights. The animals are adorned with bells, wreaths, fresh flowers and ornate whetstone holders and they are driven down the valley by their herders. Plünderfuhren (procession floats), Goaslkrocha (whip crackers), Schuhplattlern (folk dancers) und and musical entertainment.

In Val Casies Valley, in the village of S. Maddalena, the traditional "Kirschta" (church day) is celebrated in autumn. We particularly recommend the "Original Obolola Almabtrieb" on Saturday afternoon. The farmers, dressed in traditional costumes, bring their livestock, such as cows, sheep and goats, directly from the mountain pastures back down to the valley. The animals are lavishly decorated with flowers, wreaths and bells. At the end of the valley, there is traditional food and musical entertainment until the end of the festival. On Sunday, the Kirchtag is celebrated with the traditional morning pint in the S. Maddalena Association House with traditional music and local, regional specialities.

It is probably the most beautiful pilgrimage across the whole Alpine region: when autumn is at its most colourful, on the second Sunday in October, the villagers of Ortisei go up to the Chapel of San Giacomo. The location itself is heavenly: the chapel and the visitors look out across the Sassolungo from a spot on the steep mountain forest. From here, the mountain comes across like a cathedral of nature. Blessed as one is after a view like this, on Monday go to the traditional Segra Sacun market. Here it's all about the more earthly delights. The whole pedestrian zone is a lively market square, where walking through can be a bit difficult at times. Culinary delights, craftsmanship, carved and painted, are on offer. Another old tradition takes place in the market place: men ripe for marriage will buy a pear at the market, which they will decorate with a ribbon and give as a present to their chosen one. During Easter the following year, the woman has to give the man Easter eggs. Important: the man cannot forget to pick up the eggs if he wants to win his woman over.

The festival will begin at 11 a.m. at the elementary school of Avigna. There will be a lots of tasty local delicacies with roasted chestnuts.

Every year after the village festival in St. Jacob, on Monday the market "Segra Sacun" will be held in the pedestrian area of Ortisei. The “Segra Sacun” market is the largest market of the year, which is filled with numerous stands that offer culinary delights and craft products. According to an ancient tradition, girls and women, on the occasion of this day, will be gifted with decorated pears as a sign of sympathy and love.

Every farmer’s wife has her culinary secrets! At the farmer’s kitchen on the Raiffeisenplatz market square, Scena's farmers’ wives offer authentic traditional and tasty specialities. "Törggelen" is a popular autumn custom for enjoying harvest fruits like chestnuts, apples and grapes. Ham and cheese, young wine and local dishes, all taste so much better when enjoyed in company and good music!

The ingredients are all there for a spectacular autumn in the castles of the Alto Adige Wine Road. From 17th October to 3rd November 2024, several prestigious concerts will be held in the ancient walls of the towns that unfold on one of the most beautiful wine roads in Europe, combined with the excellent wines of this territory. Wine, the stories behind its production and great music will be the protagonists of the first edition of “WineSounds on the Alto Adige Wine Road. The entrance to the concerts includes the concert itself and different tastings to discover the best of local wines that, together, constitute the Alto Adige Wine Road’s family. 4

As part of the “WineSounds on the South Tyrolean Wine Road” in late autumn 2024, we warmly invite you to the concert in the Von Braunbach wine cellar. The "Alpentales Quintett" plays music from all directions with a double bass, trumpet, drums, vocals, Styrian harmonica and violin. The historic residence of the Teutonic Order is the perfect atmosphere for the concert. With exquisite wines and sparkling wine from Terlan wineries, Terlan wine soup and small appetizers. From early afternoon till late at night the famous "Traminer Weingassl" or Wine Alleyway will be scene of exciting adventures which, for a few hours at least, will take you far from your daily routine and offer you a special evening in the magnificent autumn detting, along the Wine Road. The celebrations of the "Wine Alleyway", in the heart of the historic centre of Termeno which is open only to pedestrians, is an appointment not to be missed: the best Traminer wines will be offered in cups made for this very occasion along with special South Tyrolean delicacies in an atmosphere of music and folklore.
