And how did this link between the ideal place for Bolzano residents to go for a bit of 'Sommerfrische', or summer cool, and the genius tourist Sigmund Freud come about? In a letter dating February 1911, he reveals to Carl Gustav Jung «Next summer. I need a place where I can be alone with a forest nearby». So, before Easter, on Friday, the 14th of April, he leaves Vienna in the company of his friend and pupil Sandor Ferenczi and makes a quick tour lasting just six days to find a suitable place around Trento and Bolzano. He returns to Vienna the following Thursday and his research produces excellent results in the form of Ritten/Renon near Bolzano. Consequently, on the 9th of July, Freud sets off from Karlsbad, where he was staying to recover from a bout of 'American colitis', and joins his family at Klobenstein. This is where the Freuds celebrate their silver wedding anniversary, on 14th September - the enjoyment of their holiday thus being enhanced by love and affection. At the 'Bauer am Stein' farm in Foiana 70 goats white goats stretch out towards you, waiting to be stroked. Farmer Karin explains how these lively ruminants are fed, milked and cared for. As true gourmets they prefer to eat fresh grass and leaves, but they also get some tasty snacks made especially for them. After the birth of the first kid, the mother goat gives milk. She is milked twice a day and, unlike cows, has an cows, she has an udder with only two teats. If you want, you can taste the milk, also called 'white gold'. The private distillery "Wezl" in Riffian/Rifiano has been around since 2012. Jochen Kofler produces over 20 varieties of grappa and fruit brandies with much love and skill. Multiple awards at the Destillata, including "Edelbrand of the Year 2016" for Grappa Merlot. Named "Italy's national winner" and "Distillery of the highest quality" in 2019. Jochen invites you to visit of the private distillery "Wezl", where he explains how the fine brandies are distilled and they are tasted with delicious chocolate. The guided tour will be in German.

We start at the Haslhof farm above Göflan and hike on leisurely paths through meadows and forests, past the coal fields to the Göflaner Alm, where we stop for a bite to eat. Covelano marble is quarried above this mountain pasture. We then descend to the village of Tarnell above Laas. The bus picks us up again there. The famous Lasa marble, which comes from the same mountain as the Covelano marble, is processed in Lasa. Through stories from the members of the San Cassiano fire brigade, you will learn about their activities throughout the year and the challenges firefighters face every day, from rescue operations to fire-fighting and civil protection interventions (in Italian language). A unique experience for both young and old, focused on discovery and respect for these modern heroes! Participation in the activity is free, but registration online or in our tourist offices is required. On the tracks of the biathlon elite: Come and experience the excitement of this large sports venue that has already hosted numerous international competitions. Take a closer look at the technical and functional rooms, the entire administration building and the spectator stands in more detail. We tell you exciting stories and give you interesting facts about the Südtirol Arena and not to be missed: we will also take a look at Antholz 2026. A film about biathlon rounds off your knowledge of the sport. Finally you can feel like an elite Biathlete and try out biathlon shooting: put your marksmanship to the test with five shots. Guided tours of the biathlon stadium including biathlon shooting at realistic small-bore conditions are scheduled twice a week from June to October in German and Italian language. Juval Castle Tour (39 km, 700 m elevation gain) The impressive Juval Castle Tour stretches over 39 kilometers and 700 meters of elevation gain, offering not only physical activity but also cultural and culinary highlights. The starting point is Algund. An experienced bike guide first leads us through a panoramic landscape to Töll. The route then continues along the Apple Road through blossoming orchards to Naturns and further towards Staben. Already during the ride, we enjoy a magnificent view up to the Juval Caslte, the famous castle of Reinhold Messner, which today houses a fascinating collection of Tibetan art and mountaineering history. We follow the bike path until the resting place (just before Staben) and then turn right at the wooden bridge towards the State Road and the Vinschgau Farmers' Store. After crossing the State Road, we need to pedal a bit more. However, with some stamina, we finally reach The Juval Castle, our destination for the day. Here, we will visit the castle and then take a delightful lunch break at a nearby inn. Rejuvenated, we begin the return journey to the starting point, Algund. The varied landscape and cultural attractions make this bike tour an unforgettable experience for nature enthusiasts who wish to actively explore the beauty of South Tyrol. This tour is ideal for experienced cyclists with a good basic level of fitness.

During a guided tour of the show garden, you will learn how they are used and what effect they have on the human body. Activities with the ambassadors of the Ladin tradition. La Villa is home to one of the headquarters of the “Croce Bianca”, a voluntary organization that provides first aid. Lukas became a volunteer at the age of thirteen and has never stopped helping those in need in the valley. During this visit you will learn what volunteering in the mountains is all about and you will soon realize that these helpful people have a big heart. ONLY IN GERMAN OR ITALIAN Niedereben Farm is situated at an altitude of 634 metres on Nörderberg mountain. Benefiting from the advantageous climate, olives, grapes and cacti all flourish here. The Hofer family supplies the local organic specialist retailer (Biokistl) with its fruit and vegetables and sells a variety of home produced, typical South Tyrolean organic products in their own farm shop. Cows, pigs, quails, ducks, geese and chickens all feel like “pigs in clover” on the farm! This introduction to the long history of the farm gives visitors an insight into livestock husbandry and wine growing on the Vinschgau’s Nörderberg mountain and shows the route taken from the first olives to the production of the farm’s own olive oil. The following products are available to buy directly from the farm shop: speck (bacon), salami, smoked sausages, cooked herb-crusted ham, Coppa ham, farmer’s speck, seasonal fruit and vegetables, and in the autumn months chestnuts and pumpkins, apple juice and Vernatsch wine.
