Ballet Preljocaj
HELIKOPTER/LICHT
A unique double bill brings together one of Angelin Preljocaj’s landmark choreographies, set to Stockhausen’s groundbreaking Helikopter-Quartett, and the acclaimed new creation by the master of French dance. In 1996, Karlheinz Stockhausen, a pioneer of electronic music and a central figure in the musical avant-garde, composed Helikopter-Quartett, a revolutionary piece for string quartet and four helicopters. The sound of the rotors blends with the instruments, producing a radically new kind of sonic experience. Five years later, inspired by this composition, Preljocaj created HELIKOPTER, one of his most iconic works. Six dancers bring the music’s energy and momentum to life on stage in a performance that is powerful, fast-paced and charged with intensity. Presented as an Italian premiere at Bolzano Danza, the evening also features LICHT, Preljocaj’s latest creation for 2025. Bright and full of energy, LICHT is a tribute to the power of music and dance, set to an original score by Laurent Garnier, one of the pioneers of electronic dance music and a contemporary heir to Stockhausen’s legacy.
Ginevra Panzetti/Enrico Ticconi
AeReA
Free Event
A visually arresting duet, AeReA, the first part of a diptych by the acclaimed duo Panzetti/Ticconi, unfolds in the evocative setting of Piazza Verdi in a free open-air performance. A silvery grey flag floats weightlessly, gliding through the air in a ritual-like motion. Cleansed of all symbols and emblems, it becomes a distilled visual form, a neutral point from which anything can emerge, begin, or disappear. Developed around a powerful visual and choreographic element—the flag—AeReA is the opening chapter of a diptych created by Ginevra Panzetti and Enrico Ticconi. Winner of the Premio Hermès Danza Triennale Milano in 2019, AeReA investigates the flag as a symbol of both unity and division, exploring the subtle threshold between the comfort of belonging and the impulse to impose that identity on others. The title contains the words Ara (which gives its name to the second part of the diptych) and Aerea: the former refers to the altar as a site of sacrifice; the latter to the physical quality of the flag, at its most powerful when lifted and animated by air.
The event will be cancelled in case of bad weather.

Open-air theatre in the Lengmoos Commandery at 8.30 p.m.
"Bezahlt wird nicht!": If buying is a luxury, stealing is a duty by Dario Fo, adapted by Elke Hartmann. A humorous, socially critical uprising against greed, injustice, and the power of authority.
Ritten Summer Stage is an annual open-air theater event held in the Commandery Lengmoos. It originated in the summer retreat era of the 17th century. Back then the nobility of Bolzano already found all sorts of diverting entertainment to pass their summer months on the mountain. And, theater could not be done without in order to guarantee for an estimable amusement experience. In 1973, this tradition was brought back to life when the Ritten Summer Stage (“Rittner Sommerspiele”) was born. However, it was no longer meant to be exclusive high-society entertainment but was made accessible to everyone.
Ginevra Panzetti/Enrico Ticconi
ARA! ARA!
A fantastical parade of hybrid creatures and vibrant fabrics, ARA! ARA! is the second part of a diptych by Ginevra Panzetti and Enrico Ticconi that explores the deeper nature of relationships. Throughout history, rising powers have not always chosen to be represented by majestic or fearsome creatures. At times, they have taken on the image of a more unusual animal: a lively, exotic bird – the parrot. Since antiquity, the bright colours and mythical animals of heraldic symbols have reflected political tensions, expressions of belonging, assertion, and power. A complex system of codes developed to distinguish opposing factions in battle. Following AeReA, ARA! ARA! once again draws on the folkloric tradition of flag-waving to investigate the symbolic power of the flag. At the centre is once again the image of the banner, now the vehicle for a reflection on the political nature of both individual and collective relationships.
Lia Rodrigues
Encantado
Movement, Memory, and the Fragility of Nature: The Unmatched Masterpiece by Brazilian Choreographer-Activist Lia Rodrigues. Eleven encantados—mysterious, sacred beings moving between sky and earth—emerge from an enormous multicoloured patchwork that fills the stage. Made from over 140 pre-loved blankets collected at markets across Brazil, this vibrant mix of animal prints and floral patterns is the true protagonist of the piece. In silence, light slowly reveals the tapestry, then gives way to a flood of colour and movement. The fabric is gradually taken apart and transformed into dresses, cloaks, and headpieces as the dancers’ gestures intensify in rhythm with the driving pulse of the music. Through her unmistakable style, Rodrigues blends registers and emotions to reflect on one of the most pressing issues of our time: the fragility of the natural ecosystem. Encantado speaks of human vulnerability with disenchanted clarity and poetic strength. This internationally acclaimed production has been on a nonstop world tour for the past four years and is now presented at Bolzano Danza for the first time.

Bolzano Danza presents a special encounter with Gisèle Vienne on the occasion of the French-Austrian choreographer and director’s presence at the Festival. The event will feature the presentation of the art book This causes consciousness for fracture, which retraces the artist’s work through the lens of photographer Estelle Hanania. The book is the result of a genuine, ongoing collaboration between the two artists: “Gisèle and I,” explains the author, “had the idea of creating a book that would be almost like a theatre piece in itself. A book with its own narrative and form, unfolding like a new four-handed creation, using photographs as material, which we would shape together to create a new space.” The concept is to start from different performative acts to generate something new, through a process of composing and manipulating drawings and printed paper, offering a visual experience that is both different and more immersive.

Cherish Menzo
DARKMATTER
Hip-hop, science fiction and speculative futures: a powerful and enigmatic performance on body and identity. In DARKMATTER, choreographer and performer Cherish Menzo explores transformation, representation and perception through movement, sound and visual metaphor. Two dancers ceremonially cover their bodies in a dark liquid. A sudden blackout interrupts the scene. A face appears briefly—then vanishes. Time unfolds in fits and starts, and identity dissolves into flickering presence. Taking its title from a concept in astrophysics, where “dark matter” refers to what cannot be seen yet has mass, DARKMATTER interrogates how Black bodies are portrayed in visual culture, shaped by dominant narratives and inherited stereotypes. Inspired by the hip-hop remix technique known as “chopped and screwed,” the performance uses distortion, deceleration and dissonance as precise choreographic tools. The goal: to create new images of the body, beyond the prejudices and clichés of everyday life.
Performance with loud music, strobe effects, and partial nudity.

In 2025, Adel Tawil will only perform at a few select open-air concerts, including the show on South Tyrol’s only lakeside stage, directly on Lake Kaltern. "Lieder", "So schön anders", "Alles Lebt" – every tour, every concert is an unforgettable live experience. Performing live means everything to Adel Tawil: “I love seeing the immediate reaction to my songs during concerts. Happy faces of all ages singing along – music is universal and brings people together. My lyrics contain a lot of personal experiences, and the feedback shows me that they not only entertain but can also make people think.”
Adel Tawil is undoubtedly one of those artists whose messages have a powerful impact on people. Fully aware of this responsibility, his single “Menschenkinder”, with its clear message, holds special significance for him. “Menschenkinder” was first performed at the “Sound of Peace” peace concert in Berlin at the Brandenburg Gate in front of more than 100,000 people.
Meanwhile, the Berlin native has released his fourth studio album, “Spiegelbild”, showcasing previously unseen sides of Adel Tawil. New sounds and new words – but at its core, unmistakably Adel: deeply personal and universally relevant. He possesses the rare gift of telling his own stories in a way that allows everyone to find an emotional connection. When Adel Tawil sings about himself, he is singing about all of us. That’s what makes him one of the most successful songwriters.
One could list the hard facts: the many platinum and gold records, the countless awards, the number one hits. But what matters more is how much this Berlin artist and human being resonates with people. Adel Tawil is a magnet for audiences – in the best sense of the word. Anyone who has seen him live or met him in person finds it hard to resist his charisma. And those who attend one of his concerts almost always come back for more.
Before his solo career, Adel Tawil was one half of the highly successful duo Ich + Ich, and he was also awarded numerous prizes for their many hits, including “Stark”, “So soll es bleiben”, “Lieder”, “Zuhause”, “Stadt”, “Ist da jemand”, and more.

Gisèle Vienne
CROWD
A journey beyond the edge of night, choreographed with hypnotic precision by one of the most acclaimed figures in contemporary dance. Drawing inspiration from the rave parties of 1990s East Berlin — held in abandoned warehouses and underground clubs — Gisèle Vienne creates a powerful reflection on freedom, collectivity and resistance. The performance unfolds as a hallucinatory ritual of light, shadow, sound and movement. Within this sensory density, a series of deeply relatable human portraits emerges: euphoric, intimate, wounded, defiant. Vienne shifts the focus from linear chronology to emotional time, expanding perception and slowing down the experience of the present. At its core, Crowd is a response to the pain and resilience of bodies shaped by systems of control. Through distortion, stillness and repetition, Vienne gives voice to these bodies, caught in the tension between oppression and liberation.

From classical painting to pop icons: a journey through our collective visual memory in its Italian premiere. Inspired by the unfinished Mnemosyne Atlas by art historian Aby Warburg, This is la mort explores recurring forms and themes that shape our visual culture. On stage, Zoé Lakhnati assembles figures from different times and places — conquerors, heroes, entertainers — seemingly unshakable presences who, in turn, reveal their failures, their downfall, and their potential end. Using visual techniques such as glitching and morphing, images are juxtaposed, extended and transformed, suggesting new ways of reading figures, symbols, and movements. This is la mort lingers on the irretrievable gesture of an ending, asking which images accompany us, consciously or not, and how they reverberate through our bodies. Dramatized, infused with fear or theatrical excess, these representations appear and dissolve on stage, shaping a living atlas of collective memory.
Before the performance: At 5:15 PM, a guided tour of the collection exhibition Under the Spell of Duchamp by the Antonio Dalle Nogare Foundation will take place. Participation is only possible with prior registration when purchasing tickets.

August 19, 2025 - Flouraschworz
The quartet "FLOURASCHWORZ", named after a black-haired beauty from the texts of Luis Stefan Stecher, consists of Hannes Ortler (born 1974), who plays harmonium, accordion, melodica, and clarinets, and Michl Reissner (born 1980), responsible for drums and percussion. Both work as music teachers and are graduates of the C. Monteverdi Conservatory in Bolzano. The third member is bassist Franco Micheli (born 1969), who developed his skills in various fusion and jazz ensembles. The fourth, Heiner Stecher (born 1962), is the singer and guitarist of Flouraschworz — a passionate bard, bandleader during his school and university years, and later guitarist in a jazz band. In 2014, he joined forces with the trio to create original music free from strict stylistic boundaries, nurturing his singer-songwriter ambitions.
The name FLOURASCHWORZ unmistakably represents the Vinschgau Valley, the home region of the four musicians. It stands for poetry and a deep connection to this high Alpine valley, for catchy melodies and singable songs in the Vinschger dialect. Through their newly interpreted “Korrnrliadrn” (grain songs), they express a renewed cultural self-awareness.

Gasoline, rituals and harpsichord: a ferocious duel inRadio Vinci Park, choreographer and performer François Chaignaud and Golden Lion-winning director Théo Mercier transform this setting into an arena of confrontation, ritual and ambiguity. To the baroque sounds of the harpsichord, played live by longtime collaborator Marie-Pierre Brébant, two figures face off: a fantastical, semi-nude being adorned with bracelets of castanets and bells, and a motionless motorcyclist, fully masked and mounted on his mechanical steed. Through gestures of taming, abduction, duel and aggression, the piece unfolds as a strange and powerful vision — a surreal, ceremonial battle at the edge of control and performance.

Mette Ingvartsen
Delirious Night
Italian Premiere
When the sun sets, a delirious night begins — full of energy, ecstasy and mystery. For the first time in Italy, Mette Ingvartsen’s explosive new performance invites us to abandon the rules of everyday life and make space for collective surrender. In Delirious Night, nine dancers give in to an unstoppable wave of movement. Driven by bursts of contagious energy, they plunge into a world of uncontrolled sensations, where joy and sadness, hedonism and exorcism intertwine in a shared, ecstatic experience. Accompanied by the live percussion of Australian musician Will Guthrie, founder of the ensemble Nist-Nah, Delirious Night explores excessive states of movement to ask how loss of control can become a social and political act. Referencing historical “dancing manias” and post-pandemic emotional fatigue, the performance challenges ideas of “normal” behaviour, offering a wild, liberating response to the constraints of the present.
This performance contains scenes with partial nudity.
