The authentic wine experience for all senses takes place in the newly created wing of the Cantina Kurtatsch. During the visit, you will gain fascinating insights into the importance of terroir, the variety of Kurtatsch’s vineyard sites, and its unique wines. The educational TERROIR Experience will lead you into the new dolomite barrique cellar with its natural rock wall and conclude with a tasting of 5 wines from our TERROIR line. The number of participants is limited to a maximum of 18 people. Please note that dogs are welcome in our wine shop and on the terrace, but for hygiene reasons they cannot take part in the guided tours. Südtirols Süden Card: If you are in possession of the “Südtirols Süden Card”, please indicate this in the appropriate field when booking. The discount will then be applied automatically. The indication that you hold the Guest Card must be made during the booking process, as the discount cannot be granted retrospectively. Children are very welcome to join the guided tour. Hocheppan Castle sits majestically on a rocky spur above Eppan on the Wine Road and is one of the most important fortified castles in South Tyrol. Built around 1130 by the Counts of Eppan, the complex impresses with mighty curtain walls, a striking keep and the well-preserved Palas. Particularly worth seeing is the Romanesque castle chapel, whose interior walls are decorated with extraordinary frescoes. These date back to the 13th century and show both biblical scenes and rare secular depictions - including the famous “dumpling eater”, a humorous testimony to everyday medieval culture. After years of decay, the castle was restored and is now a popular excursion destination with refreshments and a unique view of the Adige Valley. It combines history, art and nature to create an impressive experience. Hocheppan Castle and its chapel can be visited as part of guided tours, available every 30 minutes from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM on the following days: • 5. The farmers demonstrate step by step how to mix all ingredients to form a dough. People are invited to lend a hand, and while the dough rises, they may discover the farm, the garden and the animals such as cows, calves, pigs and rabbits. Finally, the loaves will be baked in a wood-burning oven and, afterwards, tasted together. An interesting and exciting experience for the whole family! Since the time of the Romans, wine has been cultivated on the sunny slopes of the Wipptal. Today, 2000 years later, there are once again some pioneers who utilize the milder climate for viticulture. Peter Faistnauer is one of them; he operates the first winery in the Wipptal. Since 2015, he has been cultivating the white wine variety Solaris. After visiting the vineyards, the special wine will be tasted in the old barn. Dogs are not allowed. It is not possible to navigate the paths with a stroller, and the entire tour is not wheelchair accessible.
