"The Legendary 8" in Val Gardena
Sëlva/Selva di Val Gardena, Dolomites Region Val Gardena

Skiing galore: welcome to Val Gardena’s skiing area, one of the most traditional in South Tyrol, boasting a diverse variety of slopes of different levels.
Every slope has its own history and we could go as far as saying that it is quite a special one: after all, they were the stage of the 1970 World Ski Championships and therefore, witness to an over 100-year-old skiing tradition in our Ladin valley in the Dolomites. What do they have in common? They are all well-groomed slopes and offer breathtaking views across the legendary Dolomites mountains.

Enjoy the Legendary 8 ski-runs in Val Gardena...collect the points trough the APP and get the diploma "The Legendary 8".

    Sellaronda counter-clockwise
Sëlva/Selva di Val Gardena, Dolomites Region Val Gardena
The Sellaronda is a top-class ski circuit. Winter sports enthusiasts can expect magnificent views of the snow-covered peaks of the Dolomites, long descents on mostly intermediate slopes, and plenty of opportunities to stop at cozy mountain huts. When you add up the chairlift rides and the descents on the slopes, you cover more than 40 kilometers in about 4 hours. However, you can add as many lifts and slopes as you like. The ski circuit is signposted in both directions, but this tour follows the green markings and goes counterclockwise. The green route offers slightly easier slopes compared to the clockwise-running orange route, but both ski circuits are manageable for average skiers with sufficient stamina.

La Ferata – The old railway line featuring Bronze Sculptures and Snow Depths - Winter
Sëlva/Selva di Val Gardena, Dolomites Region Val Gardena

The Val Gardena railway trail runs along the entire length of the valley and takes you past woods, meadows, hamlets and local sights on the sunny side of the valley. Choose between Ortisei (St. Ulrich), S. Cristina and Selva (Wolkenstein) as your starting point. The walk follows the course of the former Val Gardena railway, which was built during the First World War – in the years 1915-1916.

On a section of the path you will find a number of bronze sculptures by local artists. These give walkers and hikers an insight into the fascinating history of art in the Gardena Valley.

Along the railway line trail from La Poza towards S. Cristina there is a snow gauge, which measures the amount of snowfall for the period from 1951 to the present day.

Tieres - Animals in the woods
Sëlva/Selva di Val Gardena, Dolomites Region Val Gardena

Find the animals in the woods

We live in a stunning natural landscape. The fantastic Dolomite area is a natural habitat for a large number of wild animals such as deer, chamois, foxes, squirrels, marmots and hares. It is difficult for us to see these animals as they live in the wild. This reflection led to the idea of an “Animals in the Woods“ themed path, which we have divided into two Tours. So you can get to see the animals in any case, as life-sized carved figures along the routes.

Tour One: Start out from the tourist office of Selva Val Gardena and proceed towards path no. 14 to Vallunga/Langental to the St. Sylvester’s Chapel. At the chapel follow The Way of the Cross no. 26 to Daunëi and from there take path no. 3, which will bring you to the Juac mountain hut. Taking instead path no 17A from Daunëi you will see more animals. Return along the same path.

Tour Two: Take path no. 27 from the Ciampinoi cable car station in the centre of Selva. Turn left at Hotel La Pineta and follow the path as far as La Sëlva. Return along the same route back to the starting point.

A detailed map showing the exact location of each of the animal figures is available at the tourist information office.

The village tour of Selva Val Gardena
Sëlva/Selva di Val Gardena, Dolomites Region Val Gardena

The village tour in Selva starts directly at the Selva Tourist Office.

From there, follow the signs towards Vallunga/Langental on path no. 14 to the Silvester chapel. To the left of the chapel you now go over the Way of the Cross in the direction of Daunëi. At the beginning of the path you can see the ruins of Selva Castle on the top right. From Daunëi it is now a bit downhill until we reach the old railway path, which we take in the direction of S. Cristina.

As soon as we have reached the district of La Poza, we cross the street towards the district of La Sëlva. We can already see the Castel/GardenaFischburg from afar, where our path leads along. Then it goes back to the starting point via the walkingpath of La Sëlva.

From Selva, we run to the parking area in Vallunga and from there past the path no. 14 to the St. Sylvester chapel, and then on through a forest of larches and Swiss stone pines, where we slowly gain elevation and can enjoy the unique panorama of the surrounding Puez-Geisler Nature Park. The valley ends in a large, flat meadow (Pra da Rì), which serves as the turning point of our route.

Shorter Variant: We run to the St. Sylvester chapel and then turn left there at the way of the cross (path no. 26), follow this and then run over Daunei back to Selva.
