From Vinschger Paarlen rye bread and Puschtra Breatlan farmers’ bread to Schüttelbrot flat bread, country-style baked goods have always been an important part of life in Brixen. So it’s no surprise that the old town alone has around ten bakeries, each offering a unique selection of tempting goods. On the first weekend in October each year, Brixen celebrates its baking traditions. Don’t miss this opportunity to sample the scrumptious selection of savoury and sweet creations on offer on the cathedral square.

It is all about the almost extinct Villnösser Brillenschaf sheep. South Tyrol’s oldest sheep breed has a characterizing dark pigmentation around the eyes, and it seems really like the sheep are wearing glasses. During the culinary Lamb weeks from 3th to 12th October 2025 you may taste a variety of dishes made of this special lamb in one of the participating restaurants of Funes.

The guided hike with Günther leads through old farmsteads and mountain restaurants, through sloping vineyards, chestnut groves and orchards. You will have the possibility to learn more about typical farms and the winegrowing during a wine tasting at the Prackfoler farm. The lunch with traditional dishes at the Innerperskoler farm inn is not only a culinary pleasure, it helps you to recharge your batteries for the hike back to the starting point. Wine tasting: the three wines from the Prackfolerhof will be tasted. Children receive juices for free. Lunch: The price includes appetizer, main course ("Schlachtplatte"), chestnuts (if available) and sweet "Krapfen". Drinks have to be paid extra.

Traditional Transhumance with Festivities and Folk Music. In October, it’s time for the cattle, horses, goats, and sheep that spent the summer on the Seiser Alm to return to the valley. On the Seiser Alm, the Transhumance is traditionally celebrated on Rosary Saturday, the Saturday before the Harvest Festival. Starting at 10:30 a.m., cows adorned with flower wreaths and bells fill the streets of Compatsch. The colorful herd of around 250 cattle, sheep, horses, and goats, along with decorated carts, then heads towards the valley and Kastelruth around midday. Festivities on the Seiser Alm in Compatsch begin at 10:00 a.m. with commentary - the „Goasslschnalzern“, alphorn players, the dance group „Alpler Plattler Gitschen“, the brass band "St. Martin in Thurn", the music group "Schlernblech", a farmers' market, and demonstrations of old farming crafts. Food and drink will be provided. Festivities in Kastelruth start at 10:00 a.m. with commentary - For many years, it has been a tradition to celebrate the return from the Alm with music, dancing, food, and drink. The Farmers' Buffet and the Hunting Association of Kastelruth will provide refreshments at the entrance to Kastelruth, along the beautiful promenade. The Alphorn players, the Garner „Schuhplattler“, the „Goasslschnalzer“ and the musical group „Schlernwind“ will provide entertainment. The festive procession with the animals and their handlers is expected to arrive in Kastelruth around 1:30 p.m. We recommend that you watch the entire Transhumance from the Seiser Alm to Kastelruth, as not all animals make it to Kastelruth. Some farmers take their animals to their farms before reaching Kastelruth. You can easily reach the Seiser Alm with the Seiser Alm Cable Car from Seis am Schlern. On this special day, you can use the Seis-Seiser Alm Cable Car at a special price of €14.00 (round trip)! Buses no. 3, 3A and 172 run between the Seiser Alm cable car and Kastelruth. Please note the road closures: after a certain time, no buses will run to Kastelruth, so you may need to travel to Telfen and walk from there to Kastelruth. Tour buses can reach the Seiser Alm before 9:00 a.m. Since the road will be closed for return traffic until 2:00 p.m., tour buses can only drive down after 2:00 p.m. Alternatively, tour buses can park at the Seiser Alm Cable Car station, and guests can reach the Seiser Alm by cable car. In Kastelruth, tour buses can drop off guests at the bus station and then park at the "Tirlerhof" parking lot, 1 km away. Please pay attention to road closures.

Many times autumn in South Tyrol is considered to be golden. Colorful leaves, deep blue skies and bright sunshine distinguish this season at Caldaro. The mediterrenean ascendancies of the South make this evidently. We recommend you to deploy the last sunbeams at Kaltern and to live the great experience of the Kaltern Wine Culinarium in the historic center of the town. On Saturday 4th of October 2025 winemakers from Caldaro present a selection of their best wines and appositely culinary delicacy will be served.

Chestnut farmers and Törggele businesses will roast chestnuts along the Chestnut Trail throughout the month of October. At the Chestnut Trail/Frühaufhof in Barbian, starting Saturday, October 4, every Saturday and Sunday until October 26, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM

Every year on the first Sunday in October, Italy's distilleries open their doors. Visitors are given the opportunity to look over the master distiller's shoulder and take part in the attractive supporting program. The Roner distillery opens its doors, offering guided tours of the distillery and free tastings throughout the day.

Chestnuts, new wine, Krapfen, grilled and musical entertainment,... organised by the music band and the voluntary fire brigade at the fairground Unterinn from 11.30 a.m.

On Sunday, October 5, from 10:00 to 18:00, the traditional "Törggelen" festivity of the Marling folk dance group will take place on the Marling fairground. Food and drink will be provided. The morning pint starts at 10 a.m. Hearty traditional Törggelen with delicious roasted chestnuts and a glass of sweet wine are served from midday onwards. A youth band and a music group will provide atmospheric entertainment. You can look forward to a convivial Törggelen afternoon. The Marling folk dance group is looking forward to seeing you!

Closing event with farmers' market, food and wine stations from 11:00am at Monte Baranci. The day event at the mountain station presents dishes created by the guest chefs on specific themes, each with a product from a local producer or farmer, which can be tasted by visitors of their choice. Local winegrowers are represented at various stations with their wines.

ONLY IN GERMAN! From the beginning of October, at the end of the grape harvest, until the beginning of the pre-Christmas season is "Törggelezeit". After leisurely walks through the golden autumn landscape, guests and South Tyroleans enjoy the products of the harvest, especially chestnuts and new wine (Sußer). On this week's hike we visit the Holznerhof. We take the bus from the village centre of Schenna up to Verdins and hike via the Wieser Steig through the Vallplatz forest to the Holznerhof and after a cosy stop we descend to the Pichler restaurant. From the starting point you are free to decide whether to return on foot or by bus. A Törggelemenü and hearty music are of course not to be missed! Guided autumnal walk with stop at the "Törggelestube Gostnerhof". The farmer Luis shows you how to make "Barbianer Keschtn". With the "Keschtnpfanne" of course! We'll guide you through the colorful autumn in South Tyrol. Meeting point at 10am at the Information Office Barbian. Hiking time: 3.5 hours, return at around 4pm, easy hike, good footwear, rain shelter. For members of the Tourist Association Klausen, Barbian, Feldthurns and Villanders the hiking is free, for non-members it costs 8,00€ per person. ONLY GERMAN AND ITALIAN SPEAKING GUIDE Stroke and feed the animals, learn about life on a farm in a playful way, jump on the hay, make butter and take part in a milking competition. The guided excursions about the cestnut to Glaning/Afing will start every Thursday at 10 a.m. at the tourist office of San Genesio. During this excursion, you will learn many secrets about the cultivation of these precious autumn fruits admiring the colorful chestnut trees. There will be breaks with local product tastings at the "Törggelen" restaurants of San Genesio. Registration is required: within 12 noon of the previous day, by telephone or by e-mail contacting the Tourist Office S. Genesio.

Experience the “Almabtrieb” in Terento! The ceremonial driving of cattle and sheep from the green pastures back to their home farms and warm barns is a long-standing tradition in Terento. For over 100 cows, calves and sheep this event marks the end of their stay in altitude where they enjoyed the fresh mountain air, tasty grass and cool nights. The animals are adorned with bells, wreaths, fresh flowers and ornate whetstone holders and they are driven down the valley by their herders. Plünderfuhren (procession floats), Goaslkrocha (whip crackers), Schuhplattlern (folk dancers) und and musical entertainment.

The Taufers market - small, cosy and good The traditional autumn market in Taufers in Münstertal is back. It will take place again on 11 October 2025 at the Fliri Dane square in the village centre. Tuberis Village Development and the municipality of Taufers im Münstertal look forward to seeing you there!

On 11th October 2025, the traditional cattle drive will once again take place in Rodeneck. The festivities will begin at 11.00 a.m at the Spritzenhütte in Nauders, where you can enjoy a welcoming atmosphere and delicious regional specialties. Around noon, the beautifully adorned cattle will make their way to the Spritzenhütte, accompanied by traditional music – a sight to behold for all ages. The local farmers’ youth and women will provide a variety of tasty local dishes and refreshments. Entertainment will be provided by the "Woazgruiba" band, while the "Ronegga Schuichplattla" will captivate the audience with their lively traditional dance performances. A special highlight of the day is the prize milking competition, where skill and speed come into play. Join us for a day of tradition, music, and culinary delights in the heart of Rodeneck – a celebration for the whole family!

In Val Casies Valley, in the village of S. Maddalena, the traditional "Kirschta" (church day) is celebrated in autumn. We particularly recommend the "Original Obolola Almabtrieb" on Saturday afternoon. The farmers, dressed in traditional costumes, bring their livestock, such as cows, sheep and goats, directly from the mountain pastures back down to the valley. The animals are lavishly decorated with flowers, wreaths and bells. At the end of the valley, there is traditional food and musical entertainment until the end of the festival. On Sunday, the Kirchtag is celebrated with the traditional morning pint in the Club house from S. Maddalena with traditional music and local, regional specialities.

The Marling table tennis club invites you to the traditional "Törggelen" Festival on Sunday, October 12, from 10:00 to 18:00 on the Marling fairground. Look forward to a day full of enjoyment and good vibes! 🎉 The morning pint starts with the best entertainment from the Marling/Tscherms youth band, followed by another rousing music group. Food and drink are well catered for! Roasted chestnuts, sweet wine and homemade cakes await you from midday. The event takes place in all weathers. Autumn festival with typical Törggele specialties and musical entertainment at the fairground Oberbozen from 10.30 a.m.-4 p.m., Törggelen is a South Tyrolean tradition to celebrate the harvest with new wine, roasted chestnuts,...

Connoisseurs and friends of South Tyrolean cuisine should not miss the Törggelefest! Traditional dishes, roasted chestnuts and new wine, as well as musical entertainment on the town hall square in Naturno. Start 10.30 am. Admission free! In case of bad weather the event is canceled.

The festival will begin at 11 a.m. at the elementary school of Avigna. There will be a lots of tasty local delicacies with roasted chestnuts.

It is probably the most beautiful pilgrimage across the whole Alpine region: when autumn is at its most colourful, on the second Sunday in October, the villagers of Ortisei go up to the Chapel of San Giacomo. The location itself is heavenly: the chapel and the visitors look out across the Sassolungo from a spot on the steep mountain forest. From here, the mountain comes across like a cathedral of nature. Blessed as one is after a view like this, on Monday go to the traditional Segra Sacun market. Here it's all about the more earthly delights. The whole pedestrian zone is a lively market square, where walking through can be a bit difficult at times. Culinary delights, craftsmanship, carved and painted, are on offer. Another old tradition takes place in the market place: men ripe for marriage will buy a pear at the market, which they will decorate with a ribbon and give as a present to their chosen one. During Easter the following year, the woman has to give the man Easter eggs. Important: the man cannot forget to pick up the eggs if he wants to win his woman over.

Every year after the village festival in St. Jacob, on Monday the market "Segra Sacun" will be held in the pedestrian area of Ortisei. The “Segra Sacun” market is the largest market of the year, which is filled with numerous stands that offer culinary delights and craft products. According to an ancient tradition, girls and women, on the occasion of this day, will be gifted with decorated pears as a sign of sympathy and love.
