Autumn is the time for Törggelen! “Törggelen” comes from the Latin word “torculum”, which means “winepress”. The fragrant smell of roasted chestnuts is truly special, and something which characterises autumn time. People meet together to enjoy Tyrolean specialities and the delicious chestnuts, of course. Innkeepers, farmers, artisans and artists all proffer their wares on Raiffeisenplatz market square, so there’s plenty to see.

In November the buzz in Schenna is focussed on culinary delights. Local restaurants highlight seasonal game specialities such as sumptuous venison stews and succulent saddle of venison. The sheer variety of the autumnal culinary experiences paired with award-winning regional wines is sure to thrill every gourmet. And while the palate is entertained by such delectable flavours, live folk performances further enhance the authentic atmosphere!

ONLY IN GERMAN! From the beginning of October, at the end of the grape harvest, until the beginning of the pre-Christmas season is "Törggelezeit". After leisurely walks through the golden autumn landscape, guests and South Tyroleans enjoy the products of the harvest, especially chestnuts and new wine (Sußer). On this week's hike we visit the Untermeinlechnerhof. We take the bus from the village centre in Schenna to Verdins and then hike to Untertall to Untermeinlechner and after a cosy stop for refreshments back to the starting point. From here you are free to decide whether to return on foot or by bus. Of course, a Törggelemenü and hearty music are not to be missed! On the first Sunday in Advent, the House of Culture in Steinegg is transformed into an atmospheric Christmas market, organised by the charity women of Steinegg. The traditional market offers a warm atmosphere, lovingly designed stands and a diverse range of handmade products, delicious treats and festive decorations. The special thing about this Christmas market is that all the net proceeds go to charity. The 20 or so active members of the association and numerous supporters from Steinegg and the surrounding area work hard to make this day a very special event.
