The Romanesque St. Sisinius' Church is situated on a plateau above Lasa/Laas, the village of marble in South Tyrol. Its rare choir tower church was built on the ruins of a former building. Skeleton and clay fragments from the Bronze Age even prove the existence of a cult worship place. The hill’s many years of settlement are probably due to its location. Even today, visitors enjoy the wonderful view of the surrounding mountains that extend to the Laaser Ferner glacier.
The church itself was first mentioned in 1290 and is dedicated to the martyr Sisinius, who lived in the Nonsberg area of South Tyrol. Surrounded by a high asylum wall in a Romanesque herringbone pattern, the eastern wall has a Gothic pointed arch gate devoid of a gate wing. The choir is located in the tower, which is covered by a stone tower pyramid. The nave, on the other hand, has two round arched windows, a protruding triumphal arch and a portal made of pure Lasa marble.
The church has no sacral furniture and is closed.
The shooting range in Schnalstal Valley stands on a hill above the pilgrimage church of Madonna di Senales/Unser Frau. It can be fired on 8 lines with small bore rifle at 100 meters distance. If there is a large crowd, the waiting time can be reduced in the sports shooting room or on the terrace.
The Laas Marble World invites you to experience the legendary Lasa marble with all your senses. Surrounded by the impressive nature of the Vinschgau Valley/Val Venosta, visitors learn about the history of this special stone, from its historical beginnings of quarrying in the Jennwand, a mountain above Laas/Lasa, to the arduous transport on the unique inclined railway and the modern processing technology of today.
History comes alive in the Laas Marble World. Numerous display boards bear testament to the hard work of the quarrymen and the skilful processing techniques that have made Lasa marble world-famous. A particular highlight is the sculpture park, where impressive works of art made from the gleaming white marble can be admired.
In addition to its fascinating history, the marble world also offers a place of rest and recreation. Shady seating and elegant marble tables invite you to linger. There is a marble sandpit for younger visitors while those interested can try their hand at carving a block of marble themselves.
Sanitary facilities and fresh drinking water are available on site to make your stay as pleasant as possible. The Laas Marble World is an experience for the whole family: a place where nature, culture, and craftsmanship come together in a special way.
Admission: 4.00 euros per adult and 2.00 euros per child aged 6 and over.
Tickets can be purchased directly on site at the ticket machine.
The imposing ruins of Lichtenberg Castle are a landmark with centuries of history. The castle was built in the 12th century by the Bishop of Chur and later passed to the Counts of Tyrol. It once served as a fortified residence. Today, the castle is largely in ruins, but its impressive silhouette still dominates the landscape.
A visit to the ruins transports visitors back to the time of knights and nobility. The mighty walls of the large palace with its well-preserved window openings give an idea of how magnificent the castle once was. The view over the valley is particularly fascinating – a perfect photo opportunity!
The castle ruins are easily accessible on foot. A short but rewarding hike starts in Prad am Stilfserjoch or in the district of Lichtenberg and leads through picturesque paths up to the ruins. Mountain bikers also use the route as part of their tours through the Vinschgau Valley.
Those interested in history can visit Churburg Castle in Schluderns or the Vinschgau Museum to learn more about the Middle Ages and the noble families of the region.
The Lichtenberg Castle ruins are an ideal place for nature and culture lovers. Whether as a hiking destination, photo spot or historic retreat, a visit is worthwhile in every season!
