    Coppelle/ "Schalensteine"
    Latsch/Laces, Vinschgau/Val Venosta

No-one has yet been able to explain exactly the function or the reason why ancient man hollowed out identations in the rock face know as "Schalensteine", although thousand of pages have been written on this subject. In the Vinschgau and neighbouring valleys hundreds of "Schalensteine" can be seen. They vary in size from minute hollows to hollows the size of a human cranium. Some possibile theories of their use are that they were places of workship, guiding points for travellers or possibly that the hollowing out of the stone face was for ritualistic or medical purposes.
    Route description
Start at the village square in Castelbello, pass by Castelbello Castle, go to the Latschander irrigation channel path and follow it until the junction for Laces. There is the access to the nature's myths path. The first section of the myths path takes you on path no. 8 towards Montetrumes. The path leads through Douglas firs, Austrian pines and locust trees before you reach the so-called "Luamer Tschött" pond and the cupstone after some 30 minutes. Soon afterwards, the path branches off to the right. It is first even before you descend to reach the Via Montetrumes street that you follow for about 300 m towards Castelbello. Turn right at the sign (path no. 8) and continue to the "Klumper" slab and the irrigation channel path above Castelbello form where you can return to Castelbello's village square.

    Plima gorge
    Martell/Martello, Vinschgau/Val Venosta
Four new gorge scenes with four imposing constructions of corten steel integrated with nature were realized on behalf of the Laces-Val Martello tourist association and the municipality of Martello to present hikers this gorge with all its beauties. Hikers thus have the possibility to experience the gorge at close quarters for the first time. Spray inclusive!
Thanks to comparatively small interventions the four constructions – trowel, panoramic crescent, observation pulpit and suspension bridge – give the visitors the possibility to have different special encounters with the gorge. The starting and finishing point is at the parking area at the end of the valley, from there you go to the first vantage point, the "trowel". Visitors can climb down safe steps and experience the thunder of the water, the spray as well as the sides of finely polished rock faces from the edge of the trowel.
The second vantage point, the "panoramic crescent", offers an open panoramic view of the opposite mountain peaks, Rifugio Nino Corsi, towards Hotel Paradiso and out of the valley.
The steps of the "observation pulpit" take the visitor from the vegetation up beyond the edge. The vertical view into the gorge conveys a sense of weightlessness.
The fourth building at the end, the suspension bridge enables you to cross the gorge at a dizzy height between the two banks. The bridge is designed in a way that it can be principally used all around the year. This is a direct connection to the "Rifugio Nino Corsi/Zufallhütte", to the dam, the "Bau"; now on the left side of the canyon until you come back to the parking lot.
