This very worthwhile but difficult via ferrata leads to beautiful, lofty rock passages to the peak. The via ferrata Croda di Cengles/Tschenglser Hochwand can be reached via the via ferrata as well as via the normal route.
An extremely interesting and beautiful trail through Pfossental valley, part of the Texelgruppe Nature Park. This is the largest nature park in South Tyrol and if you’re lucky, you’ll see some of the fauna that lives here.
A beautiful ski tour with a rewarding destination: fantastic views of the Ortles and the Königsspitze.
The high mountain valley has always been an important crossing from Laces/Latsch and Kastelbello/Kastellbell in Vinschgau Valley, where there were already settlements during the Copper Age, as seen with the menhir in Latsch. Recent archaeological finds in the ground around the Penaudalm Mountain Hutand the old mountain farm suggest that this area had been used as a hunting ground not only since the Mesolithic Age but that the high plateau already had a seasonal settlement from the Bronze Age on. We are still waiting for the results of analyses to see if the buildings discovered were connected to milk processing, that is to say, cheese production.
The ski lift is situated in the valley, next to the valley station of the cable car. It brings you up to two easy ski runs (blue) - ideal for beginners.
The untouched Lagauntal, one of the most beautiful valleys in South Tyrol, and the mountain pasture Bergl are also a popular place of excursions in winter. You hike through a snowy, idyllic high mountain landscape with extensive larch forests.
From Trafoi mountain village to Tuckettspitze peak. In the west of South Tyrol, home to the sprawling Ortler region, the little village of Trafoi is perched at an elevation of nearly 1,570 m. The charming surroundings and the pristine nature of Stilfserjoch National Park are ideal for hikes and tours of all kinds, with breathtaking panoramic views over the Alps drawing tourists and locals alike to the Trafoi glacier region year after year. Ski tourers reaching Tuckettspitze peak will be greeted with a unique Alpine panorama.
The last great waterwaal of the Val Venosta Valley dates back to 1873, using the waters of the Adige River near Goldrain at an altitude of 660 metres and ending after 6 kilometres in Galsaun, municipality of Castelbello.
This tour, that can be done from early spring to late autumn, depending on the weather, takes us along the highest grain farm in Europe. Grain was cultivated at this altitude right up to the second half of the last century, when the construction of the dam and reservoir also changed the climate of the Schnalstal Valley. There are archaic structures along this trail that have only changed slightly during the development of mountain farming over thousands of years.
In the about 3 kilometers long loop road, twelve stations invite young and old to play and discover. Zipf and Zapf go along with the little natural scientists on their walk and narrate them interesting facts about the forest and its inhabitanst. At the same time the children have to crack several riddles to find the mysterious treasure at the end of the road. The trail is positioned amid of the talai forest in San Valentino. Don't forget to take paper and pencil to note the answers. Preprints also available at the Tourist Information.
Varied tour with views of the Schlinigtal valley with picturesque mountain scenery.
This sporting excursion leads us back into the Medieval Ages and into the past times of the Venosta Valley.
From Melag (car park) in northern direction diagonally left to the upper end of the drag lift. From there diagonally right over the southern slope up to a level with a crossroads (2090 m). Flat right to the bridge over the Melager stream. On the right side of the valley inwards to point 2321 m on the map. Here the brooks divide ("Zwischenbach" on the map). One climbs up a little steeply to the left of the right stream and ends on a hill at the beginning of a wide, flat valley. Through this valley to its end. There through a short but steep hollow up to a saddle (2600 m). Through the following, flat hollow at the left edge until
to their end. Up through a hollow again. Then first right over a ridge and further left into a flat depression (2800 m). Through it, then again left through a hollow and right up to the yoke with the wayside cross. Up to the elevation at 3049 m, one climbs another half hour with the skis on the left and then over a short ridge - not difficult - to the worthwhile lookout point with a pole.
From the train station in Lasa the tour leads to the village center, past the marble Emperor Franz Josef I. (Raiffeisen square) to the parish church with cemetery and Marx church, to the marble world in the tricorn of the Lasa Marmo (visit with the Lasa marble guide).
On the bike path you will find art: “Pillars of Freedom” created by international artists (at the Marmor & Marillen festival 2017). The view follows the sloped railway to the Monte Tramontana mountain and up to the “Bremsberg”, where, with a bit of luck, the train transports a block of marble weighing several tons into the valley. At the Bagni square, the marble fountain refreshes with a view over the river Adige to “Pfeiler and Koundl”. The marble walkway leads to the way of the cross, which goes through the orchards to the sanctuary of Maria Lourdes.
Back in the village, the path leads past the “Johannes Steinhäuser” school for stonecarving and numerous artworks, to the hill of St. Sisinius church - 360° panorama: Monte Sole mountain, Sesvenna group, Stelvio National Park, Lasa Valley with the Croda Jenne, fruit and vegetable gardens.
Variants to continue walking:
- Lasa marble way
- Natural monument sulphur spring
- Cengles and Oris
This archaeological trail begins with a ride on the glacier train from Maso Corto/Kurzras to the summit station, then there’s a short climb to Grawand and its imposing summit cross; it passes over the ridge and drops down to the small Finailsee lake, goes on to the Finailhof farm, once the highest grain farm in the region, passes unhurriedly by Raffeinhof farm to Tisenhof farm and then into the village of Vernago/Vernagt with its wonderful dam and reservoir.
This sunny tour rewards ski tourers with a magnificent view of the surrounding mountains. The extensive ascent and descent terrain, surrounded by the highest mountains of the Vinschgau Valley, offers plenty of peace and untouched nature.
Starting point of the ski tour to the Glockhauser mountain is the car park in Melago/Melag. From there north-westward across soft ground up to the last post of a disused ski lift. Across the steep slope towards the right and further towards Melagtal Valley. At the bridge, cross to the right-hand side of the valley and at a height of 2,300 m veer left to the Schönkar ridge. After the large trough from right to left across stepped terrain on to a shoulder. Across the back, left up to the ridge (take care!) and further up to the summit. Your climb is rewarded with a beautiful valley view and panoramic view to the nearby summits.
Descend via the Mitterkar or along the ascent route.
This mountain tour to Piz Chavalatsch promises a unique panoramic view of the Ortler Cevedale mountain range, the mountains of the Swiss Engadin as well as the peaks of the upper and lower Venosta valley.
