Winter hiking in South Tyrol

From the car park in the village centre you hike in a north-westerly direction for 100 m along the Strada del Sole Road until you reach the Ternerbach River. This is the start of the educational mills path. Follow the sign-posts. At half way you reach the Jennewein guesthouse and the pyramids. After approximately 10 min. you will get to the 5 main mills. At Hansleitner Mill you can cross the bridge leading to the other side of the river. You hike past an old farm and reach the ski lift. From here you take the field path back to the village centre. You will get to Hotel Wiedenhofer and back to the Strada del Sole Road. Duration: 1,5 h

From the Rifugio Bonner/Bonnerhütte you have an amazing view over the snowy Dolomites.

Attention: with fresh snow only possible with snow shoes.

Hiking and toboggan fun at “Hubi’s” on the Aschtalm 1950m

Starting point: Head of the valley at St. Magdalena in the Gsieser Valley 1465m
Distance: 3,5 km + 1,5 km
Descent: back via the ascent route
Hiking time: 1 hour and 15 minutes + 40 minutes
Level of difficulty: easy
Altitude difference: 485 m + 200 m
Toboggan run: easy

This easy excursion is dedicated to the famous pioneer of mountaineering Viktor Wolf Edler von Glanvell and leads from Ferrara to the impressive Lake of Braies. You mostly walk through the beautiful and characteristical wood, which represents the original access to the lake.

Starting point: Ferrara/Schmieden (1222 m)                                                                  

Arrival point: Lago di Braies/Pragser Wildsee (1494 m)

Please note: Due to the temperature fluctuations, there may be icy patches on the trails and we therefore recommend the use of crampons!

A relaxing hike along the ridge of mountain to the summit of “Steiner Mandl”, from where you can enjoy the 360°view of the panorama-plattform. The well-signposted trail no. 1a leads you from the cable raliway station on the top (2006 m, refreshment stops on the way )  Further, we carry on the trail 1a southwards to the summit of Steiner Mandl (2.118m). Backwards it goes the same way.

A beautiful, less challenging hike with a perfect view of the Sexten Dolomites. If you are lucky with the weather and know your way around the Sexten Dolomites, you can spot the peaks of the Three Peaks from afar.

A wonderful winter hiking tour to the alpine lodge Bacherhütte!

We follow the sign "Guggal" (N. 8) which is in front of the hotel "Zum Rössl". We walk down to the stream "Guggal" through wonderful meadows and then up to the component locality Guggal. From here we follow the branding N. 8 through grasslands with larches on it until we reach the alpine cabin "Fraulalm".

The closely located "Schönblick" is for sure worth a quick side-trip. Back to the alpine cabin we follow the sign N. 7 "Sportplatz" and reach the access road to Altrei/Anterivo. After about 200m we get to the sports area and to the bar "Ebnerrast" which is the only possibility of fare. Now we follow the sign "Altrei".

A leisurely walk from Sesto over the Mitterberg/Monte di mezzo to the Gasthof Panorama with a wonderful view of the sundial of Sesto.

A beautiful circular hike between the villages of St. Peter and St. Magdalena with ancient wayside shrines and a magnificent view of the Geisler Mountains. Also ideal for jogging!

At the head of the valley in St. Magdalena by the entrance into the Pidig Valley, there is a parking area. From there, follow the signpost number 49 into the valley. Immediately after the wood turner workshop continue straight through the magnificent winter forest. Accompanied by the torrential Pidig Stream, reach your hiking destination Messner Hut at 1659 m (rest point) after just 30 minutes.

Snowshoeing Hike from Lüsen Berg, starting from the parking Tulper on the forest aisle of the old ski lift, Rodenecker and Lüsner Almweg, Pianer Kreuz, Alpine Hut Roner Alm and Oberhauser, back to the parking

The hike through the quiet Silvestertal/ Valle San Silvestro valley leads mostly through the forest. If you look closely you maybe can even see wild tracks in the snow.

Panoramic winter hike to the Lüsen Alps, possible stop on the Alpine Hut Kreuzwiesen Alm and slegde descent on the forest road.

The cultural round tour passes at all famous churches and chapels at Dobbiaco/Toblach. The parisch church of St. John the Baptist, the sanctuary of St. Mary, the chapels of Melate/Mellaten, Monte Rota/Ratsberg and Fienili/Stadlern, the church of San Silvestro/Wahlen an the "Leitnstöckl" are visitable.

Hiking on Sesto's sunny side The Carnic Ridge and the Dolomites - two mountain ranges with contrasts that attract in Sesto. Walking along the Helm/ Monte Elmo means experiencing the day with the most beautiful panoramic views.

Hike on old haymaking paths to the Lüsen Alps.

Before motorization an road construction, the hay harvest from the alpine pastures in winter was brought to the valley with sledges. The hike leads from the Lüsnerhof tot he left of the stream on the farm track uphill. At the edge of the forest the road through the forest goes left to the farmhouse of the Gargitthof. Below the farmhouse there is a nice resting place witha wonderful panoramic view. The way back goes from the rest area over the path tot he forest road and back to Lüsen Rungg.

Snowshoeing or ski tour on the Alp of Lüsen and Rodeneck, across the Alpine Hut Starkenfeldhütte until the Astjoch

From the Altfasstal car park go on the well-prepared Altfasstal Rundweg circular trail. 

The Großberghütte mountain hut is an inviting place for refreshments.

The easy winter walk takes around the idyllic lake of Dobbiaco/Toblach.

A nature trail around the lake with 11 stations provides valuable information on the vegetation, wildlife and geomorphology of the area.
