A beautiful circular hike between the villages of St. Peter and St. Magdalena with ancient wayside shrines and a magnificent view of the Geisler Mountains. Also ideal for jogging!
• Hiking time: 2h 10min • Trail numbers: Sun trail (symbol: sun), panoramic trail (symbol: mountains), 11 • The sun trail starts above the village centre of St. Peter in the sharp bend beneath the Töglhof (1215 m). The trail is marked with sun symbols. Hike on level path passing by the wayside shrine (1193 m; built in 1636 when St. Magdalena was affected by the plague; the residents of St. Magdalena were forbidden to pass by this wayside shrine) until you reach the farm Bühlerhof. If you want, you can make a quick side-trip to the beautiful church of St. Magdalena (1337 m). From the farm Bühlerhof, walk on the slightly steeper trail to the beginning of the panoramic trail (1389 m) which is marked with mountain symbols. The quite flat panoramic trail leads to the trail junction with trail no. 11. At this point, turn left and follow trail no. 11 back to the starting point (1215 m).
In the event of fresh snow, not all hiking trails can be groomed and opened at the same time. Please note that sometimes there can be dangerous icing on the paths.
Through the Eisacktal/Valle Isarco valley to Klausen/Chiusa; turn into Villnöss/Funes valley and drive to St. Peter
