MTB tours and trails

Biking tour through the natural jewel Altfasstal Valley to the Pranterstadl hut (1.833 m) and Wieser hut (1.850 m). From the parking Altfasstal (1.600 m), slightly down to Altfassbach and then always slightly uphill through the valley with two shorter steep steps. The route is rewarded with a breathtaking view to the Fallmetzer and Gaisjoch peak. The mountain bike tour is very easy to combine with subsequent ascent to the Seefeld lakes and the Seefeldspitze peak (2.715 m) as a bike & hike Tour. The way back is the same.

This line offers a more comfortable and flowing alternative to the far rougher and more technical Herrnsteig trail section.

What goes up comes back around

Uschi branches off the Richard-Anton trail and is brand-new: Hand-crafted in 2020, this trail through the woods is one to watch out for: It starts off with a climb to its highest point, after which it's bend after bend, roller after roller and some more tricky challenges that require creative solutions. Uschi briefly forks off Richard-Anton before merging back into it again just before it ends.

Feet off the pedals and full power along the Pumpline.

At the start below the Frommer Alm, you choose the path that branches off to the right and with a lot of momentum you have to conquer the Carezza Pumps over 1,6 km.

The Brenner Bike Route spans 96 kilometers through the Eisack Valley down to Bolzano. Enjoy gentle hills, charming villages, and cultural treasures along the way. Ideal for those who love to combine nature, culture, and active travel.

Explore the Rodeneck-Lüsen Alpine Pastures by mountain bike and enjoy vast alpine meadows, breathtaking views, and cozy mountain huts. This tour is perfect for nature lovers seeking a blend of gentle challenge and relaxing stops along the way.

You don’t get much closer to the Schlern than this: This leisurely loop-route leading from Compatsch to the Spitzbühl at the far end of the Seiser Alm boasts breathtaking views of the Dolomite peaks and Seis am Schlern at the bottom of the valley.

The Puster Valley Cycle Path from Bruneck to Franzensfeste guides you through diverse landscapes, passing historic towns and picturesque valleys. The route offers a perfect blend of nature and culture, making it ideal for those looking to explore the region in a relaxed and active way.

Rocks and Rolls

Introduced in 2019, Richard-Anton is a kilometre’s worth of pure awesomeness with a fierce uphill stretch at the start, plus hand-carved waves and bends throughout. The absolute highlight and a top-notch spot for action shots: the rock roller in the upper third of the trail. A dream come true.

The trail starts directly opposite the entrance to the second part of the Korer trail and is not connected to the lifts.

#hansthetrail

Hans is, in a way, an extension of Franz. Painstakingly carved and hewn into the slope over the course of countless hours of manual labour, it boasts bends, waves and steep sections galore – all of which come in rapid succession. This ever-changing trail requires full concentration from top to bottom: pure bliss for experienced mountain bikers.

Beginners beware: Chances are that Hans might be a bit overwhelming, so we recommend staying on the original Herrnsteig trail.

Fitness & Fun

This trail is best described as a bit of a rascal: cheeky, naughty, unpredictable and rough around the edges. The perfect trail to break a sweat and have tons of fun while toiling away. But a word of caution: It’s only suitable for riders who are already good at manoeuvring their bike safely.

Christian starts at the Bergfreundehütte inn, where it forks off from the Herrnsteig trail. After about 1 km, it merges with the Franz trail.

#franzthetrail

Franz is awesome and a bit reminiscent of Little Canada. Together with Hans, it is among the first completely hand-built trails at Kronplatz and absolutely not suited for newbies. And quite frankly, some of its sections will even make most pros break a sweat. Today, Franz is one of the coolest trails at Kronplatz – and a MTB dream come true for many riders. Where to find it? It branches off from the Herrnsteig trail a little above the Herzlalm inn.

The Puster Valley Cycle Path from Innichen to Bruneck offers an idyllic ride through picturesque landscapes, passing meadows, forests, and lakes. The path runs away from traffic, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in nature and find moments of tranquility.

The tour runs easily from Karer See/Lago di Carezza partly through the forest and along the street Schönblickweg/Via Bellavista to the Tschein Panoramic Chairlift.

At the start of the new cable car in the centre of Nova Levante/Welschnofen there is an attractive ‘flow trail’ for bikers of all types. The trail has plenty to offer, with its twists and steep turns, small bridges, jumps and north-shores, which will get every biker’s heart beating faster!

Located in the lower section of the Herrnsteig trail and dotted with wide and flowing bends, this is the ideal line for riders looking for an alternative to root-covered “classic” trails.

Discover the most beautiful alpine huts around Meransen and enjoy a varied mountain bike tour in the South Tyrolean mountains. This is the perfect tour for those seeking a combination of physical challenge and alpine hut charm.

In addition to unique landscapes, imposing mountains and traditional villages, you can expect different types of terrain: Roads, gravel and forest paths will lead you through the Villnöß valley up to the Dolomite giants of the Odle mountains. Once at their foot, the traditional alpine huts reward you with a cosy atmosphere and South Tyrolean delicacies.

Incredibly long, insanely challenging and winding like there's no tomorrow: The Herrnsteig freeride trail is already legendary. One of the Alps' very best, it starts with a 20-minute cable car ride to the top of Mount Kronplatz and takes you down the north face of the mountain on an 8 km bare-knuckle ride worth an impressive 1300 m of difference in altitude. And it never has to be the same: On both sides of the original trail, a number of track alternatives branch off – towards endless fun and kicks. The perfect trail for pros and medium-advanced riders.

The Puflatsch loop route leads you all the way around Kastelruth's home mountain, past the Panidersattel to St. Ulrich and with the areal cableway up to the Seiser Alm, the highest point of the tour. The following descent leads along country roads back to Kastelruth. Due to the closure of the Tränka road (Pufels/Bulla), this year there is a variant via St. Ulrich/Ortisei.

The start of the trail is super comfortable - from Mitterolang it's only 3 kilometres to the cable car Olang I+II in Gassl - and in about 20 minutes you’re on the summit, ready to start.

This easy MTB tour delights everyone, as it runs mostly on the forest path without any major challenging passages. The fantastic view of the neighbouring Dolomite mountains such as Rosengarten/Catinaccio, Schlern/Sciliar and Latemar is always fascinating.

This tour offers everything a biker could wish for: varied trails, physical challenges, and spectacular views from the Steiner Mandl Panoramic Platform. Experience the beauty of the Valsertal on two wheels!

If you drive below the Catinaccio and through the Latemar forest, you will reach Lake Carezza. This fairytale lake lies at the foot of the Latemar and reflects the beautiful mountain range. Lake Carezza is always a worthwhile excursion destination: in spring it is full of water while in autumn, you can catch sight of the nymph on the shore who, according to legend, lives there.

The masterpiece

First opened in 2018, this hand-made trail in the lower part of Kronplatz branches off from the Andreas trail after the first few bends. Compared to Andreas, Alex requires a bit more pedalling and an active, anticipatory riding style. The trail is a true masterpiece and mountain bikers far and wide love it: The feedback at the 2018 TrailTrophy was quite simply overwhelming.

Challenging hut-tour in Tiers am Rosengarten.

This tour, which is especially recommended for e-bikers because of its 800 meters of altitude difference, leads past alpine huts which offer refreshments. The tour offers a fantastic view of the Rosengarten massif with the impressive Vajolet towers.

The classic of the Val d'Ega, the Latemar Ronda offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Dolomite mountains and is a dream tour for all those who want to get very close to the Latemar by mountain bike. Clockwise, the Latemar massif can easily be mastered by mountain bike beginners as well as families during a full-day tour without any major climbs. The starting point of this unique scenic tour can be the villages of Welschnofen/Nova Levante, Karersee/Carezza or Obereggen.
