The Altrei Loop is an ideal tour for beginners and leisure cyclists. Covering nearly 14 kilometers, it follows well-maintained gravel forest paths through the Trudner Horn Nature Park, one of South Tyrol’s most biodiverse regions. With moderate ascents and stunning views, it provides a relaxing outdoor experience. The best time to ride is late spring, summer, and autumn.
Itinerary
Starting in the center of Altrei, the tour descends past the church and continues to the Ebner hamlet. A gently rising forest road leads up to the Ziss Saddle, then continues past the Pausa farms to Krabes Alm. After a short break, the route follows a scenic path past a biotope, with a brief climb up to restaurant Ebnerast, before rolling gently back into Altrei/Anterivo.
Forest roads are also used by hikers and agricultural vehicles. After rain, the surface can be slippery. Ride cautiously and adjust speed accordingly. Plan a safe return in case of sudden weather changes. The emergency number is 112.
A mountain bike or e-bike is recommended. Proper weather-appropriate clothing, sturdy shoes, and enough water are essential. A small repair kit can be useful in case of a breakdown.
The Trudner Horn Nature Park is famous for its diverse plant life, including fire lilies, Turk’s cap lilies, and orchids. A stop at Krabes Alm is highly recommended to enjoy the landscape and try local specialties.
Buses run from Auer/Ora or Neumarkt/Egna to Altrei/Anterivo, with a transfer in San Lugano. Only three bikes per trip can be transported, so advance planning is recommended.
