    Pleasure on the mountain

    It tastes even better at high altitude: South Tyrolean cuisine is characterized by rural down-to-earthness and Mediterranean lightness. On the mountains, you can enjoy the lovingly prepared dishes made from local products even more with a special view. Here is a selection of places to enjoy great food in an alpine atmosphere.

    There the young team will spoil you with tasty snacks, including the coveted "Dochbrett", smorgasbord of the best things the alpine pasture has to offer, as well as of course freshly prepared hot dishes. Highlights also the self-made dishes made with fresh dairy products from their own dairy. If you have to bow out wanting more, you are welcome to purchase several alp products to bring a piece of alpine pasture to your own kitchen table. Situated near the village of Karthaus, at 2323 meters above the sea level, you will find the highest alpine pasture where produce cheese in South Tyrol- the "Penaud Alm". In about 2,5 hour comfortable walking time you reach the alpine pasture from the parking lot in Karthaus. The Alp is similarly accessible through the Niederjöchl, starting in St. Martin im Kofel. The steeper rise follows a leisurely hike through the Penaud valley and about 4,5 hours you`ll arrive the "Penaud Alm".

    K2-Hut Langenstein

    The K2 Hut is located at an altitude of 2,350 m, directly at the mountain station of the Langenstein chairlift. This location offers not only breathtaking views but also the opportunity to fully enjoy the fresh mountain air. The terrace of the mountain restaurant, which stands out for its unique archi-tectural design, invites you to bask in the sun in a relaxed atmosphere – with a direct view of the impressive Ortler. The menu at the K2 Hut is diverse: daily specials, juicy steaks, and delicious fish specialties are served, delighting both gourmets and hikers. A special highlight is the homemade apple strudel, which should never be missed during a visit. The K2 Hut is accessible via hiking trails 3 and 4. Alternatively, you can also conveniently reach the hut by the Langenstein chairlift.

    Bar and restaurant which offer typical dishes from Alta Badia in the middle of the Santa Croce ski slope. The hut can also reached by foot or by car. Dinner on Thursday evenings by reservation. In summer guided excursion discovering the healing properties of alpine plants. Together with Helga, you’ll learn about mountain herbs and plants that have soothing, healing, cosmetic and culinary properties. On this easy walk, your guide will reveal a few tricks for transforming the plants you collect into delicious dressings and natural healing products. A sweet-smelling walk! And finally, a small tasting of Helga's products.

    The Leadner Alm alpine hut lies in the centre of the hiking and relaxation area of the Tschoegglberg range, above the villages Hafling and Voeran. The alp has a large meadow where you can relax on the grass, and a toboggan run for children in winter. The mountain hiking trails are open also in winter.

    The Mastaunalm is situated above Madonna di Senales, in the high valley Mastaun. The Alpine pasture in summer time is attainable, in approximately one hour, over a way which is broad and rising slightly. The Mastaunalm this year is also open in winter - from saturday to sunday and for groups on request also on other days.

    The Tirler hut in the middle of the Dolomites was awarded in 2009 as the most beautiful hut in South Tyrol. In addition to a varied selection of traditional dishes, the restaurant offers also gluten-free, lactose free and vegetarian food. You can reach us by ski, by toboggan or on a splendid walk. For the mountain bikers we have an e-Bike charging station. We would be delighted to welcome you in the Tirler Hut.

    Bella Vista Mountain Refuge (2,845 meters) is located at the end of Senales Valley and is surrounded by the ice of the Hochjochferner Glacier. Back in 1869, a mountain refuge came into being here in order to allow for crossing back and forth between the Venter and Senales valleys, even in bad weather conditions. Paul Grüner, owner of the Golden Rose Hotel, acquired the mountain refuge in 1999. After an extensive renovation in 2006, the Bella Vista (lit: “Beautiful View”) offers not only the charm of an authentic Alpine lodge and a great deal of comfort, but also some truly special features such as an igloo and the highest-elevation outdoor sauna in Europe.

    The newly-built Grünbodenhütte mountain hut is a fully serviced ski refuge, which also offers self-service. Situated right next to the Grünbodenexpress ski/hiking lift mountain station, it places great emphasis on the quality of its regional cuisine. The Grünbodenhütte is conveniently located on the Panoramaweg panoramic trail.     Rableid Alm is situated at an altitude of 2,004 m above sea level in one of the most game-rich valleys of South Tyrol, in the heart of the largest nature park in South Tyrol, the Texel Group Nature Park. One of the most spectacular sections of the Merano High Mountain Trail runs through Pfossental valley too. Hikers, nature lovers and tranquillity seekers alike are captivated by the unique flora and fauna of this high mountain valley. Enjoy a few peaceful hours in our rustic farmhouse parlour or on the sun terrace. Fortify yourself with a delicious hot meal accompanied by a glass of fine wine or treat yourself to a cool beer in a stone tankard. We will spoil you with our homebaked “Vinschger Paarlbot” bread and homemade cheese from our own Alpine dairy.

After walking through roaming larch forests stop at the cozy Café for some delicious regional food – these are just some of the many adventures awaiting you on your hiking trip through the famous Val Senales (Schnalstal). You can easily reach us via one of the many hiking routes, some of which lead all the way to Kortsch/Schlanders in Vinschgau. The Bergl Alm is the perfect spot for families with children, who will be able to play freely in the alpine meadow and our own little playground, while their parents relax in the sun.

    The Matscher Alm alpine pasture is located at 2,050 m. From the Glieshof farm, take the forest path no. 2 on the right side of the valley to reach the Matscher Alm alpine pasture, which takes about 1 hour. Various tours, such as the "Vinschger Höhenweg", lead past the Matscheralm. It is one of the most popular excursion destinations and alpine dairy farms in the Upper Vinschgau. A lot of emphasis is placed on local products, and a wide view of the Matschertal valley enchants on the alpine pasture.

    Original and cosy with food available all day. An „insider tip“ for all those who want to sit and enjoy nature and landscape with a nice meal and a glass of fresh alpine milk. The Kuhleiten hut is open during the whole summer and winter season and easily reachable for everyone on a comfortable hike from the upper ropeway station and the circulating cableway.

    The Hut "Schafstallhütte" is located at an altitude of 1500 meters above Kastelruth. In this rustic alpine hut, you can expect warm hospitality and homemade traditional South Tyrolean specialties. The hut can be reached on foot in 15 minutes from the top station of the Marinzen cable car via trail no. 9. From Kastelruth, trail no. 8 leads via the Witches' Chairs to the Schafstallhütte. Open only during the summer months.
