Easy winter hiking tour in the Avinga valley near the border to Swiss.
This easy circular route starts at the Tourist Office in San Leonardo. Crossing the steel bridge (above the bus station), follow the road on the right all the way up to the church. The route then passes the Brühwirt Restaurant leading right up to the primary school buildings. Turn right and take the Happergweg road as far as the Happerg farm at the edge of the forest. Follow the signs to the Andreas-Hofer-Rundweg circuit until Gerlosweg/Via Gerlos road then turn right across the main street and continue to the historic Sandwirt farm, Andreas Hofer’s place of birth and the museum named after him. The route back to San Leonardo follows the Gandellenweg road, under the main road.

Spring and autumn are the ideal times for this hike. From the sports ground in Lasa/Laas, walk along the dry Lasa Leitenwaal canals (Laaser Leiten) to the mountain village of Tanas. From here hikers can enjoy unique panoramic views of the valley basin and the Ortler range on the opposite side.

The Malga Giogo di San Genesio (Jenesier Jöchl-Alm) is a typical South Tyrolean Alpine hut with grazing animals and snack bar, situated on one of the most beautiful high plateau between Salto/San Genesio, Merano2000 and Val Sarentino, tested and awarded from the influential restaurant guide Gault Millaut 2016.

This beautiful winter’s walk leads up through snowy woods from the Völser Weiher Lake to the Tuff and Hofer Alpl mountain hut. Given that the walk begins at the Völser Weiher Lake, you can also make the most of the opportunity to strap on your skates and take a spin around the lake.
In winter some sections of the route may be covered in snow or ice.
The trail is not suitable for pushchairs.
Follow the Plosestraße road to the Finktal Valley, then turn right uphill along trail no. 7), This leads partly over the Kreuztal meadows (used as ski slopes in winter). Continue to the east via trail no. 17, known as the "Woody Walk", then to the right descending to the Skihütte mountain restaurant. Return briefly to the paved street, then turn to the left (trail no. 8) on to the forest trail before a last brief stretch on the paved road leading down to the mountain village of Plancios/Palmschoss.
The snow-blanketed Calvary Hill in Kastelruth, known locally as the ‘Kofel’, is the destination of this short but sweet winter walk, which boasts wonderful views over Kastelruth and the surrounding area. The Kofel is much loved by locals and guests alike as a place of relaxation and recreation.
