Waalwege are paths along the ancient irrigation channels. The Algunder Waalweg Trail is split into two parts with a lenght of 5 to 6 km. The hike leads along an historical irrigation canal. The canal trail is almost flat. It is therefore ideal for older people or families with children. Hikers, young and old, will be rewarded with fantastic views of Lagundo/Algund as well as the entirety of Merano/Meran and the surrounding area.
This historical winter walk begins in Niederolang at the large playground in the Aue area. You can reach Niederolang easily with Skibus 22, Citybus 435.2, or the CallBus. The correct stop is “Niederolang, Erlenweg” – from there, it’s about a 5-minute walk to the playground.
The trail leads you through a picturesque forest where large stones from all over South Tyrol share fascinating insights into the world of geology. After about 1 km, you reach the “Spitziges Stöckl”, marking the end of this relaxing winter walk.
From there, it’s only about 7 minutes on foot to the village centre. You can continue walking back – or simply order the CallBus for a comfortable return.
The famous little church in St. Kathrein is situated on a rise in Hafling and can be seen from far away in Meran and Environs. The Romanesque church has its origins in the 13th century and features well-preserved frescos from the 14th century. Fantastic views of the city of Meran as well as the Texelgruppe range can be enjoyed from the church.

Treat yourself to a relaxing 30-minute walk through the peaceful fields and meadows of Oberolang. You can easily reach the center of Oberolang with Citybus 435.1 (Bus stop: Oberolang, Dorfstraße) or the CallBus. Just a few metres from the cemetery, you’ll find the starting point of this charming route.
The path leads you for about 1.7 km through the quiet winter landscape and brings you back to the hamlet of Oberolang. There, several inviting places to stop await you, including Café Pfiff, Hotel Messnerwirt and Hotel Rainegg.
For your return, you can continue on foot or comfortably take the Citybus or CallBus back to your accommodation.
Tour on the broad Riva valley floor, past the extensive river and scree landscape to several refreshment stops.

Tote Möser, Totes Moos, Totmoos are the various names of this moorland biotope above Acereto. A remote small plateau with a few isolated pine trees, in winter usually covered with a thick blanket of snow. Grouse area. Recommended equipment: snow and water repellent winter hiking clothing, mountain trekking shoes, warm drink, torch, spikes or trail crampons and gaiters.
Zösen/Cesa: a pretty, remote high valley with light mixed pine forest at the foot of Roten Riffl/Scoglio Rosso.

The destination of this winter walk is the Rechter Leger, a wonderfully situated box-seat spot with views over the Grasleitentürme towers and the Tschaminspitzen peaks.
he Waldkapelle Chapel, an emergency chapel built during the First World War for returning farmers, was used during the Second World War to hold German masses, which were banned by the fascists. The meditation path with 14 stations leads from the Parish Church in Sexten to the Waldkapelle Chapel. Along the way, the stations invite you to pause. To avoid walking back along the same trail, continue along the path and then turn right up towards Gasthof Waldruhe . From there you walk comfortably
along the asphalt road down to the Hösler Höfe farms and the last stretch along the forest path to the starting point.
