The hike from the parish church in Sexten to the forest chapel combines a gentle climb with magnificent views, rural cultural landscapes and contemplative waypoints.
A peaceful, historic place to pause and reflect
Beautiful views of the Sexten sundial and the valley
The trail passes traditional farms and open meadows
Itinerary
The starting point for the hike is the parish church in Sexten. From there, walk along Via Kaiserstraße, the road behind the church, which winds uphill in several bends. Follow this road steadily uphill until, after a few hairpin bends, you reach the first farms and the Höslerweg trail begins.
Turn left here and follow this road for about 600 metres. The path passes several small farms, runs across open meadows and offers a beautiful view of the Sexten sundial. Stay on this road until you reach a farm where the path leads under a barn bridge.
After crossing the barn bridge, follow a slightly narrower forest path that continues uphill. After about one kilometre, you will finally reach the forest chapel at an altitude of 1,552 metres.
From here, you can either return via the same route or continue the hike, for example towards the Waldruhe restaurant (1,580 m) or on to the Jägerhütte hut (1,802 m).
Important notice: Proper footwear and suitable winter clothing are required for all winter hikes. Due to possible icy sections – even on groomed trails – the use of microspikes/crampons and trekking poles is recommended.
