The project "Respect the mountains" aims to raise awareness of environmentally friendly conduct among visitors, locals and tourism professionals in the Dolomites, UNESCO World Heritage. It seeks to encourage everyone to act respectfully and responsibly in the mountains as well as in everyday life. Its key topics are potable water and waste prevention.

South Tyrolean tap water is potable and of a high quality. But water, including our drinking water, is a rare and precious commodity.
The project "Respect the mountains" teaches tourism professionals, locals and guests about the high quality of our potable tap water and how to use it carefully and respectfully.
Marked refill spots are available in the villages and on the walking trails for visitors and locals to refill their own water bottles.

When Postpark was redesigned, a fountain was erected some decades ago which resembled the classic polygonal Brixen city fountains in shape and material but was much larger and marked a central spot in the park.

The "Gampltroug" drinking water fountain is located 10 minutes on foot below the Hochganghaus mountain hut (trail no. 7 towards Vellau).

South Tyrol Refill - The project “regardful on the mountain“ aims visitors und tourism industry in the Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage to sensitise for an environmentally friendly behaviour and awareness for a respectful and a responsible behaviour on the mountain but also to act for everyday life. In the course of the project "Respect the Mountains", the certified fountains of the municipality of Fiè allo Sciliar were collected and published. The fountains invite you to fill up reusable bottles with fresh and high-quality drinking water.

 

You can fill the water bottle you have brought with you at the designated drinking water points. Fountains with the ‘Trinkwasser - Acqua potabile’ badge are fed from a certified drinking water source. So you can be sure that you are drinking clean and fresh water.

The fountain in Altenmarktgasse alley is mentioned in the 1604 city law book as one of the ten public draw wells in Brixen. It was probably originally built for the market town located outside the city walls. While the market was soon moved into the city, probably for security reasons, causing the name “forum vetus” (“old market”) to turn up as early as in 1223, the market town kept on developing and the fountain was most welcome, also seeing as the cattle market was held there once again from 1820 to 1867. The historic picture was taken in 1907. The fountain is still the same today.
