The picturesque winter hike along the Schenner Waal follows a natural trail through the quiet, wintry chestnut groves and orchards high above the spa town of Merano. Even on sunny winter days, the hike offers a unique nature experience with clear air and magnificent views.
The pharmacy trail on the Monte Sole mountain from the year 2017 is a special gift by the Lasa pharmacist Sigrid Haller on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the opening.

This hike starts in Gasteig/Casateia and follows the snowy Mareiter Bach stream all the way to Mareit/Mareta. Along the way, you pass the village of Stange/Stanghe, which can also be used as an alternative starting point to shorten the tour. Especially on warm, sunny days, the icicles and frozen water surfaces offer an impressive natural spectacle.
The winter hike to Kalcheralm mountian hut starts at the Kalcheralm parking lot below the Jaufen Pass. The route follows a mostly level, prepared winter trail. After about 45 minutes, the mountain hut is reached, offering a place to rest and refreshments, perfect for a break amid the snowy winter landscape.

From the village of Mittertal/Val di Mezzo, follow the small road signposted “Hotel Jaufentalerhof”. Continue past the hotel and stay on the paved road until you reach Kaltenbrunn. There, turn right onto the forest road and continue straight ahead to the junction for the Ontrattal and Obertal valleys. Take the right fork towards Obertal/Val di Sopra. Follow the road out of the valley until the first hairpin bend, then continue straight ahead to the Steinhof farm. From there, walk through the forest to Dörfl and return to the starting point.
Note: Although parts of the route are paved, it also leads through forest terrain – therefore snowshoes are required.
Starting from the main square in Niederdorf, this peaceful winter hike follows trail no. 27 toward Maistatt. The partly paved path leads you through a picturesque winter landscape – past snowy meadows, quiet fields, and old wooden fences frosted with ice.
Along the way, you’ll enjoy refreshing mountain air and lovely views of the surrounding peaks. After passing Maistatt, the route continues on to Altschluderbach, a charming little village nestled at the foot of the Dolomites. From there, the trail winds through light woodland with glimpses of the majestic Dolomite peaks, eventually reaching the serene banks of the Rienz River.
You can return along the same trail or take a convenient train or bus back to Niederdorf.

This hiking tour will lead us through a pine wood to the idyllic Lake Göller, to the “Göller Spitz” (Peak Göller) and the “Rotwand”, a spectacular cliff with an amazing panoramic view of the South Tyrolean mountains and the Val d’Adige. On our way home we will see a ruin called “Burgstallegg” and one of the most beautiful biotopes in South Tyrol, the “Pigleider Moos”.
The hike starts in the center of Niederdorf at the Spitalkirche (Church). The path follows the edge of the forest towards the picturesque Moos Chapel, offering constant views of the charming village and the majestic backdrop of the Pragser Dolomites. Upon reaching the small Gothic chapel of St. Magdalena im Moos, also known as the "Moos Chapel," inviting benches welcome you to rest and reflect – a perfect spot to soak in the peaceful atmosphere and the stunning natural surroundings.
The return route leads gently back along a paved road, surrounded by expansive fields, returning to the village – a lovely opportunity to savor the tranquility of nature once more.
We follow the sign "Guggal" (N. 8) which is in front of the hotel "Zum Rössl". We walk down to the stream "Guggal" through wonderful meadows and then up to the component locality Guggal. From here we follow the branding N. 8 through grasslands with larches on it until we reach the alpine cabin "Fraulalm".
The closely located "Schönblick" is for sure worth a quick side-trip. Back to the alpine cabin we follow the sign N. 7 "Sportplatz" and reach the access road to Altrei/Anterivo. After about 200m we get to the sports area and to the bar "Ebnerrast" which is the only possibility of fare. Now we follow the sign "Altrei".

From Obertelfes/Telves di Sopra (1,258 m, at the village fountain with several signposts), follow the signs for “Telfer Almen” or “Freundalm”. First, take the narrow farm road to Kappelerhof (1,353 m), then continue on a wide, cleared hiking and sledding path through meadows and forest with a moderate ascent northwestwards. Finally, cross open meadows to reach Freundalm alpine hut (approx. 1,720 m). The return follows the same route and can be done either on foot or by sled.
The pond Sulfner Weiher in Hafling is at its loveliest in summer. White water lilies cover the pond while yellow irises, floating water plantains, marsh horsetails, bulrushes, bur-reed, and a host of other plants thrive at the shoreline.
This is one of the oldest irrigation canals (Waalweg) of Merano and environs!
It was built in the XV century by the Counts of Stachelburg and is, therefore, more than five hundred years old. The canal is lined by birch-tree groves and rich, varied vegetation and is still used to irrigate the Parcines orchards, meadows and fields.
An ancient “Wohnstein”, a free-standing, curved rock in whose shadow ancient people lived, and a pre-historic “Schalenstein” – a stone with strange round-shaped indentations on it, dating back to the Copper Age, can be seen at the eastern end of the Waal path.
This particular walk is especially interesting for those interested in local history.
This easy hike starts in San Cassiano and takes you through a winter wonderland of magical beauty.
The view from the Pralongiá plateau is unique, with a 360° panorama of some of the most beautiful peaks in the Dolomites: from the Marmolada glacier to the Sella massif, from the Fanes group to the peaks on the southern edge of the Puez-Odle Natural Park, such as the Sassongher and Sass de Pütia.
The highlight of this winter hike are the views of the wonderful peaks of the Sexten Dolomites which can be enjoyed all the way along the hike. The whole area is also part of the Drei Zinnen Nature Park and is therefore a place of special beauty and tranquillity, especially in winter. The destination is the Dreischusterhütte mountain hut, where you can fortify yourself for the return route. The hut is open from Christmas to the end of March. The hike itself is relatively easy, a pleasant walk right across the Innerfeldtal valley.
A lovely winter hike that goes gently but steadily uphill. Almost the entire hike passes through snowy woodland and beautiful winter landscapes, making it wonderfully peaceful and relaxing.
From Maiern/Masseria, behind the Hotel Schneeberg (1,400 m), follow the signs for “Untere Gewingesalm”: First head south across the open valley floor to the edge of the forest, then ascend via a wide, groomed forest road in several switchbacks through wooded slopes. The Untere Gewingesalm alpine hut (1,782 m) is located at the tree line.
Return along the same route – either on foot or by toboggan.
This winter hike to the Rittner Horn mountain starts at the Gasserhütte mountain hut. Follow the prepared winter hiking trail first to the Mair in Plun and from there to the Gasteiger Sattel saddle. Keep following the winter trail as far as the Rittner Horn. Refreshments are available en route at the Mair in Plun hut, Oberes Horn Haus and Gasserhütte. Return is by the same route.
This pleasant circular hike begins in Niederdorf and follows the peaceful Rienz River, where the gentle murmur of the water and the calm valley landscape create an inviting start. At Neunhäusern, a gradual ascent takes you through meadows and light woodland up to Aufkirchen – a charming hamlet with traditional farms and panoramic views of the Dolomites.
From there, the route descends gently toward Toblach along a quiet road, offering open views of the Upper Puster Valley and the surrounding peaks. The return to Niederdorf is an easy walk along a flat, paved road, perfect for a leisurely finish.

The Knottnkino (Knott meaning rock, kino meaning cinema) is one of the most beautiful viewpoints in Vöran/Verano and is located upon the Rotstein Knott mountain. In the seats made from steel and chestnut wood designed and positioned by the artist Franz Messner from Ritten/Renon, one can enjoy unique views of the Texelgrupperange all the way to Penegal mountain and the Weißhorn peak, as though sitting comfortably in a cinema. But the film is always changing in the Knottnkino: daily, hourly, with the time of day and the changing of the season, with the climate and weather, there is always something new to see...
A pleasant winter walk to relax and simply enjoy life in a quite area on Seiser Alm. This route offers a breathtaking view of the Schlern/Sciliar mountain, almost within hand’s reach from the Spitzbühl, and leads onwards over endless snow-covered alpine meadows back to the starting point.
