Welcome to the Altstadtfest (Old Town Festival)!
Every two years the associations of Bolzano invite you to the Old Town Festival at "King Laurin". These are non-profit associations that work on a voluntary basis in the fields of sport, leisure, culture and customs. They want to use the proceeds from this festival to fill their coffers so that they can once again put on great events for young and old throughout the year. In order for this to succeed, this festival requires the commitment of around 850 volunteers!
O'zapft is! Let's go to the 18th Taistner Oktoberfest on Friday, 12 September till Sunday, 14 September 2025 in Tesido! Oktoberfest atmosphere with traditional music and original Oktoberfest beer. Pure fun at the shooting range and with mug throwing. An extensive culinary offer, as well as a large children's programme for the little festival visitors on Sunday round off the offer. So put on your dirndl or lederhosen and off you go to Tesido!
Up to 2,200 sheep and 300 goats set off from the Niedertal Alm Mountain hut in Vent valley (A) in the early morning, moving upwards through high-Alpine terrain (not dangerous) to Giogo Basso/Niederjoch (3,019 m) or the Refuge Similaun, the first group in the herd arriving at about 9:00 a.m.
The most dangerous part of the return journey begins here, particularly if there is snow on the ground or the trail or parts of it are icy. Below the hut, the procession winds downhill on quite a narrow trail through steep and rocky terrain (down to about 2,600 m).
The ground then becomes more level and less dangerous. After a short respite in the centre of Tisental valley, the herd continues down the mountain towards Vernago/Vernagt, arriving just before 2:00 p.m. From far away (1/2 hour before it arrives) you can already see the never-ending line of sheep.
Accommodation and refreshments available at the Mountain hut Martin Busch and the Refuge Similaun.

Graun im Vinschgau/Curon Venosta, Vinschgau/Val Venosta
On Saturday, 13 September:
On this day, about 1000 sheep return from the mountain meadows to the valley. The successful return of the animals is celebrated by farmers and guests. Tasty, typical dishes such as "Schöpsernes" are served.
Sunday, 14 September:
The goats return from the mountain pastures to the valley on this day and their arrival is celebrated with delicacies such as "Kitzbratl" as well as lots of good humour at the festival site.
At the celebration the statue of Mary descends from the altar and is solemnly carried in procession through the village, accompanied by the music band of Silandro and the group “Schützen” with saluting guns. Afterwards, the garden festival of the band of Schlanders will take place at the Matscher Au.
History: 1799 Silandro was threatened by Napoleon's troops, and in this misery the “Schützen” sought their refuge in the grace picture Mary in the parish church. The "Schützen" praised to celebrate this Sunday for all time as a thank you and to bring the statue of Mary in procession through the city. In fact, the enemy withdrew.

For centuries, each June shepherds have been driving their sheep from the Schnalstal Valley across the still snow-mantled saddles to graze in the pasturelands belonging to the farmers in Venter Valley in Austria. They return in mid September. About 1,500 sheep leave from the “Rofenberg-Alm“ in the early morning, reaching Hochjoch near the Bella Vista lodge (2845m) at about 11:30 a. m. The sheep arrive in Maso Corto between 3:00 p. m.
The Bella Vista hut (2845 m) can be reached in about 1 hour on foot from the top station of the Roter Kofel chairlift (2543 m), follow the signs and trail number 3.

The Termeno Band invites you to the autumn concert with a wide repertoire of classical and modern in Termeno's town hall square. You can listen to popular music and experience traditions.
Start at 20:30.
When autumn begins in the southern Valle Isarco/Eisacktal, it starts also the so-called Törggele-season. Chiusa/Klausen celebrates the beginning of this ancient tradition with a big festival.
From 19th September to 21st September, the artist's city Chiusa dedicates itself entirely to the traditions of the "Törggelen" and transforms itself into some kind of outdoor tavern.
Through the streets of the town, gastronomic stands offer various South Tyrolean specialties, such as Knödel, Schlutzkrapfen, sausages with sauerkraut (fermented cabbage), doughnuts, Strauben and roasted chestnuts.
A rich selection of white wines from the Valle Isarco completes the culinary offer. The festival has also a colourful entertainment program and a lot of popular music.
The cattle return from the alpine pastures to the valley and Sesto celebrates! The cows in particular are elaborately decorated on their return from the alpine pastures: the leading cow and the cows that follow her wear wreaths decorated with sayings, images of saints and elaborate embroidery. The Almabtrieb is combined with a festival to celebrate the safe return of the animals.
