Visitors to the Dolomiti Balloonweek can enjoy a hot air balloon flight lasting around half a day (including assembling the balloon, hot air balloon flight, dismantling the balloon, “baptism”). The actual flight takes around an hour depending on wind and weather. A hot air balloon basket has room for two to five persons, including the pilot. The Banishing of Winter in Prato allo Stelvio The banishing of winter and the race of the Zussl are ancient traditional customs practiced only in Prato allo Stelvio. Every year at this time, there is a carnival procession and a noisy ritual repeated exactly the same way. On Shrove Tuesday the town’s youth wear white costumes adorned with colored flowers made of paper and large bells, some as heavy as 20 kg, are worn around the waist of the males. The Zussl are dressed in white from head to toe and adorned with colored ribbons and paper pulp flowers. Tied around their waists, they wear large noisy bells, which often weigh over 20 kilos.

Every two years during carnival season, one of the most original carnival parades in the country takes place in Stilfs: the “Pfluagziachn.” This custom features an "Arlpflug" (a traditional plough), which was still occasionally used as a potato hiller in the 20th century, being pulled through the village by the “Schimmel” (a white horse) and six “Öchslen” (little oxen). A wide variety of characters in unusual costumes take part, performing a complex improvised “mock battle” between opposing groups from the village. Conflicts between young and old, men and women, locals and nomads, farmers and farmhands, performers and spectators are parodied in these lively exchanges. Traditionally, the female roles are also played by men. The Pfluagziachn of Stilfs traces its roots back to an old rural carnival tradition. Noise-making rituals to drive out winter are typical throughout the Vinschgau region, but the Pfluagziachn in Stilfs stands out due to its comedic nature. It’s a unique custom—a kind of interactive street parade from ancient times, a rural commedia that, in the process, brings a largely vanished traditional world back to life.

On Shrove Tuesday, February 17, 2026, Tramin will once again shine in the colorful splendor of the Children’s Egetmann Parade – one of the oldest and most fascinating carnival traditions in the Alpine region, dedicated specifically to the young people of Tramin in even-numbered years. This parade is a miniature version of the grand Egetmann Parade and offers a unique glimpse into the traditional carnival season. The children take on the roles of the adults: trumpeters, Ausschnöller, Ausmesser, and Wegmacher lead the procession, followed by the Schnappvieher and the magnificent wedding carriages of Egetmann-Hansl. Other colorful floats, including those of the bakery, the smithy, and the famous Altweibermühle, complete the vibrant spectacle. A special highlight of this parade is that girls are allowed to participate, making it even more diverse and lively. In contrast, in the adult Egetmann Parade, women are not permitted to join. This rule is rooted in a long-standing historical tradition.

The Gsiesertal Lauf is one of the best-known and best-loved ski marathons in the entire Alpine region. It is the second largest ski marathon in Italy, and is held on the 3rd weekend in February in the Val Casies Valley, South Tyrol (Italy). Ever since it was first held back in 1984, this race has never once been cancelled due to weather conditions. In 2021, the event was cancelled for reasons of force majeure (Corona). The event attracts a great deal of international skiers, with a good forty nations at the starting line every year and a great many World and Olympic Champions listed on the roll of honour. In 2026, it will take place at the same time as the ‘Milan-Cortina Olympics’. This is a unique opportunity for all participants to experience some Olympic competitions either in the neighbouring Antholz Valley or in Cortina (distance 35 km) in addition to their own sporting activities. The race runs along two routes, one of 30 km and one of 42 km; the classic race is held on Saturday and the skating race on Sunday. The amateur “Just for Fun” group. with none of the stress of rankings and timekeeping, is also extremely popular, and the programme of events also includes the “Gsiesertal KIDS Run” on Saturday.

Schwemmalm Open Air 2026 will take place on 21 March. The party will be in full swing at the mountain station of the schwemmalm cable car, at an altitude of 2,150 meters! Afterwards, the after-show party will take place at the valley station of the schwemmalm cable car! Admission to the open air event is included with a multi-day ski pass, a season ticket or a day ticket. Those who only want to go up for the open air event only pay the price for the ascent and descent with the cable car. The Ultentalcard is NOT valid on this day!

The International Three Borders Race in Schöneben is a traditional ski race held annually on Easter Monday. The race attracts around 500 participants from South Tyrol, Switzerland, Austria, and Germany. In 2025, it will take place on April 06 on the well-groomed Fraiten slope in the Schöneben-Haideralm ski area. The race is a giant slalom that is contested across various age categories, providing both professionals and amateur skiers the opportunity to showcase their skills. The event is accompanied by an award ceremony and live music, making it a memorable day for all involved

Reflections on ecological, economic and social aspects related to water and light are the basis of the artistic works. Under the motto "Water is life - light is art", an art trail is being created in Brixen's old town. The Brixen Water Light Festival takes place every two years in May. The idea for the festival was born in 2015 after the premiere of the light and music show at the Hofburg in Brixen. The first edition of the festival was held in May 2017. Art, light and water and a head full of dreams and thoughts. Being free and letting oneself fall, floating on the surface of the water, submerging, and carrying the light within. Being critical and playful, a rollercoaster of emotions. Screaming, standing still, having fun, seeing the world. And figure it out?

From game to game: Galloping into the Middle Ages is every spring the returning motto in the Dolomites region Seiser Alm. After the start at the Trostburg Castel in Waidbruck/Ponte Gardena the tournament goes on with four stages: at the Kofel/Mount Calvary in Kastelruth takes place the traditional ring jousting. The second game, the labyrinth, is on program at the Matzlbödele in Seis.The third of four stages takes place at the Völser Weiher lake with its gallop. Corpus Christi is an important feast in the liturgical calendar, during which the Catholic Church celebrates the presence of Christ in the Eucharist. A solemn procession, in which the consecrated host is carried in a monstrance through the village, expresses this faith. This tradition also has a firm place in Kastelruth, and we warmly invite everyone to participate. The celebration begins at 9:00 am with the Holy Mass in the parish church, followed by the procession at around 10:00 am, which will move through the village and return to the church. We kindly ask all guests and visitors to accompany the procession with respect, to maintain order, and to observe the event reverently along the route. Please avoid entering the procession aimlessly. Thank you for your understanding and for appreciating this religious tradition!

The "Kastelruther Spatzen" Open Air Concert will be held on June 2026 for the 29th time. Asfaltart turns 20 years old! 20 years full of passion, laughter, poetry and an incredible cultural mix! Your adventure week on the 3 Countries Enduro Trails! The main part of this week is spent exploring the region on the bike. Trained guides teach boys and girls aged 11 to 15 many tips and tricks in open terrain and on single trails. Among other things, trail basics such as balancing correctly, braking, riding on and over steps, climbing and descending, etc. are refined during this week and what is learned is put into practice on the 3 Länder Enduro Trails. In addition to the 3 country enduro trails, you can expect other great activities such as a first aid course, trail building and a bike workshop.
