    Ansitz Waldgries Manor Christian Plattner
    Bolzano/Bozen, Bolzano/Bozen and environs
In the heart of Santa Maddalena lies the Waldgries manor in Bolzano. It was mentioned in a document for the first time in 1242, and is therefore one of the oldest estate wineries in and around Bolzano.

Winegrowing has been carried out here for around 700 years. In the sundrenched vineyards that lie directly at Waldgries Manor, the grape varieties of Schiava, Lagrein, and Red Muscat find the best terroir thanks to the Mediterranean climate. Among the total of 7.2 hectares which Christian Plattner tends are also grape growing areas in Ora and Appiano-Monte, in the latter of which are planted Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Blanc. The results are multilayered wines, not least of which is Santa Maddalena which is given particular attention here and which is in fact among the wines of Alto Adige with the richest tradition and the most significant history.

A piece of new old history is written by the Antheos Santa Maddalena classico, a mixed vinestock that had nearly died out which was newly planted here around ten years ago and allows us to experience a voyage into the past in a bottle. On the artistically arranged wine path that leads directly from the parking lot through the estate, visitors can experience everything that is interesting and worth knowing about Waldgries Manor.

Ancient nectars in a modern wine-shop.

Wine is our speciality and our passion, and we wish to transfer this passion to you by allowing you to enjoy our quality wines in a pleasant and uncomplicated atmosphere.

So here is our wine-shop, where the tasting – and purchase – of our noble wines will be a true pleasure. In the wine shop our assortment is showcased in the best possible way: the interior design is based on pleasant architectural shapes in natural materials such as wood and Bressanone granite, expressing the more typical features of an eminently wine-growing region such as Valle Isarco.

Here you may taste noble nectars under the expert guidance of our enologists and obtain information about our winery, our vineyards and our wines. In the shop you will also find iPads with which to calmly and autonomously view each single wine and read about how our winery is organized.

The wine shop is also paired with a “historical pathway” that you can follow to learn about the interesting vine-growing and wine-making past of our Valley.

The history of wine in Valle Isarco.

The Cantina Produttori Valle Isarco hosts a small, elegant wine museum that presents an interesting historical journey tracing the development of wine making in the Valle Isarco.
Because of the special characteristics of the area and other favourable factors, the local wine making tradition dates back to prehistoric times. The  exhibit offers the visitor a quick overview of the development of wine production, with an accent on tradition and quality. Worth a special look are the real medieval tools used for wine making, lots of deeds and documents, wine bottles and art works that date back to different time periods but all have to do with wine. Guided tours can be booked.

The sandy, loamy soil and the Mediterranean climate lend this wine its unmistakable flavors. Every wine inherits its characteristics from the variety of grape, the special soil, the annual weather conditions and the work done in the cellar. The wines tend to be  fruity and physical. One egg is the same as another. Or not?
Our organic chickens live in the mobile stable in the middle of our meadows, so our chickens get fresh grass, air and sun. We also keep dual-purpose chickens. With “dual use” we mean eggs & meat, which means that the meat of our organic chickens is also used as soup chicken after their active time as laying hens and the male chicks are also raised. Unfortunately not a matter of course these days …But for us an affair of the heart! ♥
Even if ethical and sustainable use of our earth’s resources is important to you, eggs from dual-purpose chickens are a matter of course! Why do organic meadow eggs cost more than normal free-range eggs? The workload with a mobile stable is greater because it gets a new place in our meadows around every 2 weeks and additional feed and water have to be brought to the stable.
In addition to the higher costs for the purchase and rearing of organic laying hens themselves and the larger land requirement per animal provided for by the guidelines for organic agriculture, it is above all the costs for the feed that have an impact on the books. Grains and pulses in organic quality are much more expensive than corresponding products from conventional cultivation.

Our chickens only get certified GMO-free organic feed. Due to the good feeding, the fresh grass and the great freedom of movement in our meadows and fields, our organic meadow eggs simply taste better and contain a particularly large number of vitamins (A, D, E), healthy omega 3 fatty acids and carotenoids. That is what is special about our organic meadow eggs!

    Farm store Pröfinghof
    Partschins/Parcines, Meran/Merano and environs

“Pröfing” is derived from “grafting” and, in the vernacular, means something like plant refinement. Just as the fruit trees were once refined and furred, today farmer Annemarie lovingly refines the fruits of our farm. In 2014 we decided to farm the Pröfinghof organically. Of course, this also includes biodiversity and so it came about that more and more fruits and vegetables, berries and herbs were planted around our farm. Since 2015 we have also been offering all of these processed treats in the small farm shop!

In our family farm shops we sell: vegetables and fruits of the saison, fruit spread, juices, dried fruit, eggs, and honey from our bees.

We are South Tyrolean drinking water refill point!

The fountain is located in the outdoor area on the farm grounds of the Pröfinghof.
