The best sides of winter
Views of the Dolomites, overnight bivouacs and enjoyment on the Villanderer Alm Alpine pasture
Step by step, you walk through the untouched winter landscape towards the summit, while the sun slowly disappears behind the mountains and, finally, headlamps and the starry sky light the way: the snow shoe hike at sunset is one of the highlights of the South Tyrol Bivouac Camp, which takes place in January on the Villanderer Alm Alpine pasture. An equally impressive natural wonder is to watch the first rays of the sun make their way through the Dolomites peaks early in the morning after spending the night in a tent.
To experience the grandiose panorama of the Dolomites UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site, you don't necessarily have to spend the night on the mountain: the Villanderer Alm Alpine pasture is perfect for a day trip with the family. In the cosy Alpine inns, the innkeepers serve typical delicacies, such as homemade Schlutzkrapfen ravioli or goulash with Knödel dumplings, and in addition to the easy, well-prepared winter hiking trails, the secluded high Alpine pasture is also well suited for cross-country skiing or for tobogganing fun with friends.
