    Family holidays in South Tyrol

    South Tyrol’s 300 days of sunshine and landscape rich in contrast form the framework for an adventurous family-friendly holiday, inviting visitors to participate in activities at all elevations. The many excursions, hiking trails, family ski areas and adventure parks are worth a visit for both children and adults alike. No summer holiday in South Tyrol would be complete without swimming in a bathing lake such as the highly recommended Kalterer See lake, or hiking along one of the many pleasant, family-friendly trails to mountain huts with Alpine meadows and playgrounds. Many places offer specific family-friendly programmes.

    A guided e-bike tour from Sterzing up to the high-alpine mountain and nature area of Pfitsch. Experience one of the few untouched valleys with an experienced guide. At the end of the valley, we will encounter the Pfitscher Waterfall. There, you will be introduced to the special features of the area while you can dip your feet in the cool glacier water. This tour is not offered for children under 10 years of age, except for children transported by parents with a trailer (which can be rented at the outdoor center).     Visit to a mill in operation in Terenten

    For a long time it was very difficult to reach Terenten from the valley. For hundreds of years the village people had to look after themselves. The farmers and craftsmen provided food and clothes. Almost every farm had its own mill. However, only few of them are still fully functional. The educational mills path leads along Ternerbach River. During a 1,5 hour hike you walk past 7 renovated corn mills, some of which are up to 500 years old. This is where farmers used to grain corn into fine flour, and sometimes still do. During the summer months one mill is open to the public every Monday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. No registration required.

The first stop takes you to the earth pyramids, a natural spectacle that will amaze you with its unique formations. Then visit the ancient mills, which are also the heart of the local culture. Here you will witness the old craftsmanship and listen to the stories of times gone by. The easy hike, which also offers impressive panoramic views, continues to Margen. There you can visit the St. Margareth Chapel. The little church from the 12th century was built on a hill surrounded by nature.     From Naturno you cycle comfortably along the Adige cycle path to Merano. From the Thermenplatz square, head eastwards through the Elisabeth Park into the Passeier Valley. Mostly flat, with a slight incline, you can enjoy the marvellous landscape along the Passeier cycle path (19 km). The refreshing air of the Passer accompanies you along the entire cycle path to St. Leonhard.     The hike starts at the village square in Lajen/Laion. From here you walk together with the hiking guide Helmuth via Fonteklaus to Freins. Arrived at Petra's Honey Hut you come to the first tasting. Different honey variations are tasted and different products are discovered. All are self-produced and processed. Now it goes back to Fonteklaus where lunch is already waiting. After lunch we continue to Lusenegg where the taxi will take us to Novale/Ried. Here is the second stop - jam.     This exciting and eventful event at the Runster Mill, on the Sonnenberg mountain Naturno, fascinates young and old! Accompanied by a guide, you hike slightly uphill to the Runster mill in approx. 30 minutes. Exciting stories and legends about Naturno are told along the way. Franz Fliri and Walter Müller from the Naturno/Plaus local history association will be waiting for you at the mill. Franz will tell you about the Runster Mill and its history. If you like, you can also take some of the freshly ground flour home with you and bake your own bread rolls.     Rosskopf Tour - E-Bike Tour to the Local Mountain of Sterzing

    Enjoy a scenic tour from Sterzing to the Rosskopf mountain. The tour starts at the Rosskopf valley station and leads via Telfes to Sterzing's local mountain. The nearly 800 meters of altitude are mostly covered on a wide gravel road. Arriving at the mountain station, the beautiful huts invite you to take a break. During a culinary refreshment (not included), you can enjoy the fantastic views of the Eisack Valley extending far out to the Dolomites.     Walk the Lama - easy half day trekking tour

    Our trekking guide Florian - called Llamero in South America - welcomes you in the llama paradise and gives you an insight into the basics of llama keeping as well as the habits and characteristics of these friendly animals. After some exercises in the obstacle course, we will walk together with our llama boys Giacomo, Rocky, Rono, Rambo, Casper and Winnetou through the meadows and forests of the national park and you may let yourselves be touched by their calmness and good-naturedness while you lead them on the leash. Llamas are called the dolphins of the pasture and you will sense it. If desired (at an extra charge), the adults can relax in the llama paradise after the tour until the sausages are ready on the barbecue and the little ones can play archery and games in the Indian teepee. The llamas will watch you and continue to be close to you while snacking on their well-deserved reward. And of course, there will be enough time for photos and videos with our llama troop. Height difference: approx. 150 m Costs: 25 euros/person, 70 euros per family, 15 euros per person who does not lead a llama during the trek, possibility of a barbecue (with sausage, bread and drink) after the tour in the llama enclosure - with surcharge depending on the number of participants.
